Harris wraps up title in closest finish in VSS history

(Oct. 11) – Jerald Harris passed Brian Lawson a few feet in front of the checkered flag to win in the closest finish in Virginia Sprint Series history Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway. The series champion’s margin of victory was so slim that the electronic scoring system was needed to decide the winner of the 14th and final IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car tour event of the season. Chris Ware and Anthony Linkenhoker paced the field to green with Linkenhoker out first and bringing along Brian Lawson. The top two were smooth and steady as Linkenhoker continued to lead until lap eight when Lawson got a better run in to turn one and went into the lead. High line takes Lawson to Virginia Sprint Series checkers

(Oct. 4) – Brian Lawson used a high line move to take over the top spot and hold on for his third Virginia Sprint Series win of the year Saturday evening at Shenandoah Speedway. Chris Ware and Anthony Linkenhoker paced the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car field with Linkenhoker out first and looking strong. Lawson showed speed early, getting around Ware and setting his sights on Linkenhoker. Laps clicked away with Jerald Harris and Tony Harris joining top four. Lap 12 was a rough one for French Grimes as debris cut his right front tire, causing him to pound the concrete wall in turn one. Humphries cruises to Sprint Series win at Eastside

By Jim Haines WAYNESBORO, Va. (Sept. 12) – Tom Humphries won the final Fast Friday event of the year at Eastside Speedway to close out the dirt schedule for the Virginia Sprint Series. The IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car tour win was Humphries’ fourth this season. Chris Ware and Anthony Linkenhoker paced the field to green and Linkenhoker was out first with Brian Lawson and Humpries already on the way by lap one. Humphries was by Lawson on lap three and all over Linkenhoker by lap seven. Humphries saw a gap with the rear of the field coming up and shot through into the lead, then cruised to the win. Linkenhoker, Lawson, Ryan Price and Daren Bolac completed the top five. Long road leads to Lawson’s 2nd Virginia Sprint Series win

By Jim Haines NATURAL BRIDGE, Va. (July 26) – It’s been a long road for Brian Lawson after winning a Virginia Sprint Series pavement race early in the season but it all came good again on the red clay at Natural Bridge Speedway. Lawson topped Saturday night’s IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car main event with a strong dash to the checkers that carried him across the stripe in front of Ryan Price. Chris Ware and Eliah Omwake paced the field to green with Omwake up high and wide open. The high line was working for him as he streaked away. Glenn Worrell made a move on Ware and took off after Omwake as the non-stop feature clicked away. Omwake was flying while Worrell had to deal with Ryan Price and Lawson. Charlie Ware is Dixieland Sprint Series winner

(July 18) – Charlie Ware made the most of a fast ride and track that suited him by taking his first feature win in his own car in Friday’s Virginia Sprint Series feature at Dixieland Speedway. Chris Ware and Charlie Ware paced the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car field to the green with Charlie out first bring Glenn Worrell along with him. Tony Harris was third, right on Worrell, as Charlie Ware stayed on the cushion staying smooth lap after lap. Halfway came and a car did a 360 degree spin, then drove up the track causing some bumps and blocking the track, which bunched up the field for a dash to the checkers. Charlie Ware took off with Worrell and Tony Harris right behind and Troy Severin and Jerald Harris filling the top five. Harris sprints to fourth Virginia Series feature win

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (July 12) – Jerald Harris turned a good run in to a great finish as storms danced all around Shenandoah Speedway Saturday night. Harris won his fourth Virginia Sprint Series feature of the season. Three of those IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car victories have now come on the Shenandoah asphalt oval. Chris Ware and Charlie Ware paced the field to the green before Charlie Ware took off and brought Tony Harris along. Harris got by on lap four and did his best to run away from the rest of the field but Tom Humphries, Harris and French Grimes were on a march to the front. The battle for second between Humphries and Harris ended right after halfway when Humphries rolled into the infield. Humphries glad to be at Dixieland

(June 27) – Tom Humphries took the win at the first of two Virginia Sprint Series visits to Dixieland Speedway Friday night, holding off Jerald Harris and Glenn Worrell. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car tour victory was Humphries second straight and third in seven series events so far this season. Charlie Ware and Chris Ware paced the field as the green waved with Charlie Ware taking off bringing Worrell along. The two were glued together until Worrell got by on lap four and Charlie was left to deal with the closing pack. Worrell was leading when a quick yellow waved at halfway with Humphries and Harris right be­hind. Worrell took off and stayed fast but Humphries was on the attack, chopping high and low lap af­ter lap until he and Harris both got by with six laps to go. Humphries gains late lead, Sprint Series win at Shenandoah

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (June 14) – The wait was worth it Saturday night for Tom Humphries. Humphries got his second Virginia Sprint Series win of the season Saturday at Shenandoah Speed­way. Tony Harris had the lead for much of the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car headliner, pulling off with tire issues after relinquishing the point in the late going. Charlie Ware led to lap three when Tony Harris powered his way to the front and took off with Hum­phries, Brian Lawson and Jerald Harris all chasing. Tony Harris stayed strong before a caution waved for debris at halfway. Humphries got by and Harris slowed with a tire problem, then headed for the pits. Despite early spin, Harris is winner at Natural Bridge

(June 7) – Jerald Harris traded cars with his brother to get some seat time in the car before they take it to the IMCA RaceSaver Nationals at Eagle Raceway in August. Along the way he won his third Virginia Sprint Series feature of the season, after spinning off track on lap one and storming back to take the Saturday win at Natural Bridge Speedway. Chris Ware and Charlie Ware paced the field to green with Charlie out first and leading lap one before a quick yellow for the spin by Harris. Charlie was back at it before Chad Worrell moved around the top and in to first as Charlie slowed with drive line failure and headed for the pits. Harris repeats Virginia Sprint Series success at Shenandoah

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (May 24) – Jerald Harris got to the front to be the fastest when it counted, taking his second Virginia Sprint Series win of the year Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway. The first repeat winner in the series for IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars – he also topped the April 12 opener at Shenandoah – Harris passed Brian Lawson for the lead with seven laps left. The feature line had Chris and Charlie Ware on the front row when the green waved. Chris Ware rocketed out to the lead with Anthony Linkenhoker and Lawson in tow. Lawson made his way to the front on lap five with Harris stalking him on every lap. Tom Humphries and French Grimes were working their way up as well as the non-stop feature went by fast.
