By Don Hawkins HARLAN, Iowa (May 16, 2026) — Once again with rain and storms in the forecast, the Shelby County Speedway staff met the challenge by completing a quick and efficient program. The Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars once again put on one of the night’s best races. Mike Albertsen looked poised to capture the victory while being heavily pressured by Riley Christensen and Miciah Hidlebaugh. An incident in the closing laps involving Albertsen and Hidlebaugh opened the door for Christensen, who slipped into the lead and never looked back. The Audubon driver started seventh and picked up his first EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of the season. Dayton Ullrich finished second while Dusty Van Horn advanced from 10th to third. Braden Richards charged from 12th to fourth and Austin Meiners completed the top five. The Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts had a stout field of 24 entries battling for the $1,000-to-win feature. By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 15, 2026) — Beautiful weather and fast racecars made for an enjoyable evening Friday at Davenport Speedway. Cruz Birkhofer dominated the Sunoco IMCA Late Models. The Muscatine driver started seventh in the feature and did not see the lead until lap 16. Once out front, Birkhofer drove away from the field to score his first win of the season by more than two seconds. Andy Nezworski charged from 10th to finish second. Early race leader Logan Veloz held on for third while Nathan Balensiefen and Chuck Hanna rounded out the top five. Nezworski and Veloz were Late Model heat winners. By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 16, 2026) — The Sunoco IMCA Late Models saw a strong field of 19 drivers take the green for their main event Saturday night at Maquoketa Speedway. Muscatine’s Cruz Birkhofer celebrated his 24th birthday in style by scoring a hard-fought feature victory. Starting second, Birkhofer raced the topside of the smooth racing surface to perfection while holding off a hard-charging Ron Klein at the checkers. Klein, from Dubuque, advanced from seventh to finish second, while Davenport’s Matt Ryan charged from 10th to third. Mitch Morris and Dustin Smith rounded out the top five. In the early stages of the blazing-fast 20-lap A-Main, it was a heavily contested three-car battle between Corey Zeitner, Jordan Krug, and Jody Krug. Jordan Krug, who started fourth, eventually worked his way into the lead while Corey and Zach Zeitner battled feverishly for the runner-up spot. On the final lap, Zach Zeitner threw a last-corner slide job at Jordan Krug. By Don Hawkins HARLAN, Iowa (May 9, 2026) — A strong field of 25 Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars checked in, and the feature produced one of the closest finishes of the night at Shelby County Speedway. Madrid’s Braden Richards emerged victorious in nearly a photo finish after charging from the 12th starting position. Austin Meiners also sliced through the field from 13th and appeared poised for victory exiting turn four, but Richards surged alongside and edged ahead at the checkers. A strong field of cars took the green, and Gavin Miller jumped out to the early lead as the field battled throughout. On the final lap, Stuart’s Tyler Fiebelkorn charged from the 11th starting position to make the winning move and score his third victory of the season at three different tracks. Mike Vondrak paced much of the 18-lap main event, just as he had the week before, but was under constant pressure from a pack of drivers racing two- and three-wide behind him. Austin Meiners took the early lead but had plenty of company in pursuit. When it all settled, Braden Richards of Madrid charged from sixth to score his second win of 2026 in the EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region, following an earlier victory at Boone Speedway on April 11. By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Apr. 25, 2026) — The 2026 racing season got underway Saturday night in grand style at the quick quarter-mile dirt track located on the Jackson County Fairgrounds at Maquoketa Speedway, and the Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars delivered a classic feature as drivers raced three- and four-wide throughout the entire main event. Terry Neal came out of retirement to race one of Colton and Danielle Dirks’ Stock Cars, and the elder Neal showed he still has the ability to wheel a race car in fine fashion. Knoxville native Curtis Glover made the trip pay off with a victory in the Sunoco IMCA Late Models. Glover took the lead midway through the 25-lap main event. Late in the race, he began to pull away from the field to secure his first win of 2026. Dustin Smith made a late-race charge to finish second after starting 16th. Cruz Birkhofer drove from 10th to finish third, while Logan Veloz and Andy Nezworski rounded out the top five. Nezworski, Veloz, and Bryce Garnhart won the heat races.
