Maquoketa Season Championships Washed Out; Modified Title to Be Decided Aug. 22

By Jerry Mackey  MAQUOKETA, Iowa (July 20, 2024)– The Maquoketa Speedway hosted Eastern Iowa Garage Door Night at the races on Saturday with a special event for the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. One hundred and ten race teams packed the pit area and provided an action packed night of racing.  The Hobby Stocks were the featured division with a $1,000 to win main event that also carried an additional $780 in lap money. The 25-car starting field took the green flag with Karter Miles setting the pace from his pole position start. Karter led for several laps while his brother Jordan worked to the front from his third row start. Jordan Miles was involved in an incident early in the race that sent him to the rear. The incident lit a fire and Jordan quickly worked back through the field and set up a challenge for the lead with his younger brother. By Rob Hinckley MAQUOKETA, Iowa (July 26) – “Yeah!” That shout rang out and probably could be heard over the carnival rides behind the grandstand and the cheers of the appreciative crowd occupying the grandstand and bleacher seats. The exclamation came from Matt Ryan as he pulled off the racing gloves and other driver safety equipment, then he climbed from his Andover Meat IMCA Late Model following the 25-lap win during the Jackson County Fair at Maquoketa Speedway. A win during fair week is special. “I tried a long time,” the Davenport ace and 2017 track champion said in victory lane. “Last year I led this whole race and then Justin Kay passed me on the last lap. By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Aug. 9, 2025) — Infrequent visitor Matt Ryan dominated the 25-lap Season Championship feature at Maquoketa Speedway for the Sunoco IMCA Late Models. Starting inside the second row, Ryan quickly powered to the front and led the remainder of the race, taking the win ahead of seventh-starting Logan Veloz. The points battle came into the night with Jake Morris holding a slim two-point lead over Steve Johnson. When the checkers waved, Morris finished one spot behind Johnson — enough to claim the IMCA Late Model track championship by a single point. Ryan’s victory was his third of the season, each coming at a different track. Diercks Delivers in Modifieds The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds Season race came down to a head-to-head battle between Spencer Diercks and Charlie Mohr.
