Traskowsky Times Two for Feature Wins at Salina Speedway

By Dusty Wiegert SALINA, Kan. (April 22) – Three new IMCA feature winners visited the O’Reilly Auto Parts Victory Lane for the first time in the early season on Friday at Salina Speedway. The night was presented by B Strong Running Company of Salina. Of those winners, two were father and son, something that doesn’t happen often at all on the same night. First was Fred Traskowsky, who pulled out to the lead from the front row at the start of the M&H Motors IMCA Northern SportMod feature. He held off a resurgent Tyler Watts to capture his first win of the season. Watts finished second with Chris Humphries and Tim Echevarria rounding out the top four. The final win of the night went to Fred’s son Mike as he raced to his second win in a row in the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock division. Mike had no problem working his way from an eighth place starting position to capture the top prize, with Kelly Pihl, Tony Slothower, and Cody Williams chasing him across the [Read More]

No repeat winners in second week at Off Road

By Randy Pospishil NORFOLK, Neb. (April 23) – A second night of racing at Off Road Speedway produced four first-time IMCA feature winners. The list of winners from Saturday night’s four sanctioned divisions, along with the first session of IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, consisted of different names, suggesting that the level of competition at the track is wide open and the standings will see continued movement each week of the season. Tiffany Bittner came out on top in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature, winning what became a highly competitive four-car battle with Tracy Buck, TeJay Mielke and Nate DeSive. Eventually, just as Bittner and Mielke were pulling away from the field, a caution and restart with three laps left brought the pack of four together again to finish the race. Bittner’s win, perhaps a one-day-early birthday present to herself, helped rid her of “a monkey on my back the last couple of nights,” adding that the win “felt a lot better.” In the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division, James Roebuck followed up a victory at [Read More]

Yarie now two for two at Shawano

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (April 23) – Another stellar car count of 124 cars signed in to do battle Saturday at Shawano Speedway and Marcus Yarie stayed consistent, winning his second Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature in a row. Clint Forstner led the opening lap of the Modified main. Lance Arneson made a three-wide pass to second on lap two. On lap four Arneson went to the outside of Forstner to take the top spot away. By lap five, Yarie had worked his way up to second place and began to reel in Arneson.  Lap 12 saw Yarie go to the outside in turns three and four and take the lead by a bumper at the line.  Yarie led the rest of the way for the win with Arneson on his rear bumper.  Jerry Wilinski made a late pass of Jaimie Schmidt to finish in third.  Benji LaCrosse crossed the line in fifth. Defending IMCA Sunoco Stock Car national champion Travis VanStraten recorded his first win of the season.  Wyatt Block was first to the [Read More]

Morris family doubles up at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (April 22) – Davenport Speedway celebrated the Koehler Electric Season Opener Friday night. For one family in attendance, victory lane celebrations started to look like a family reunion. Mitch Morris and Jake Morris had identical nights at Davenport Speedway, although in two separate classes. Mitch (IMCA Modified) and Jake (IMCA Northern SportMod) each won their respective heat races. Each started their feature on the outside pole, led every lap and won the features, which were run back-to-back. Rob Toland led flag-to-flag for the win in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature. Toland set a blistering pace that no one was able to follow. Brunson Behning finished a distant second followed by Luke Goedert. Matt Ryan and Jay Chenoweth rounded out the top five. In the Eriksen’s IMCA Modified feature that was won by Mitch Morris, Bryce Garnhart put together a nice run to finish second. Doug Crampton took third over Todd Hansen and Darin Duffy. Thirty-two Mods were on hand Friday. Following Jake Morris to the checkers [Read More]

Marshalltown checkers fly for Lauritzen

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 22) – It was night number two of points racing at Marshalltown Speedway on Friday and the on-track action was nothing short of spectacular. Ronn Lauritzen took the win in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature and while he had breathing room at the finish line, the racing behind him was a shootout to the finish. Lauritzen started sixth and got around early leaders Jon Snyder and Jake Strayer by lap eight. He set sail on the top of turns three and four, then dove low in turn one, keeping his momentum the rest of the way to the checkers. Tim Ward, with a last-second effort, took the runner-up spot, after starting ninth.  Brian Irvine started eleventh and took third, while Strayer and Snyder completed the top five. The Class Too Tough to Tame, the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars proved once again why that name sticks. Three-wide racing, sometimes more, was common through most of the 20-lap feature. Dave Atcher claimed the top spot from Todd Reitzler at lap four, and was [Read More]

Meyer, Prauner open with wins at Off Road

By Randy Pospishil NORFOLK, Neb. (April 16) – Several of the ‘usual suspects’ from the 2015 season were among the winners Saturday night during Off Road Speedway’s opening night racing card. Those familiar names included two of last year’s track champions, Ramsey Meyer, a previous national champion in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts, and Kyle Prauner in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods division. Meyer eased into the lead just in time for a restart caused by the rollover of Luke Jackson’s car as it headed into turn four. Meyer used the restart to his advantage, sprinting to a commanding lead to secure his third win of the season. Prauner’s win required a trip through traffic, from fifth place early in the race to second after a spin by Dylan Pospisil set up a caution and restart. Although that restart was beneficial, moments later Prauner grabbed the lead twice only to have cautions negate the positioning. Finally, with seven laps remaining, Prauner took the lead from Nelson Vollbrecht as the cars entered turn three and sped to [Read More]

Point season underway at Raceway Park

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (April 17) – Raceway Park got its 2016 IMCA championship points season underway Sunday night with action in five divisions. The first feature of the evening was in the KISS 107.1 IMCA Sport Compact division. Tyler Thompson took the lead early and held off the field for 11 laps before the white flag flew. Coming out of turn two, Thompson’s car began to slow and by the third turn, Ramsey Meyer had driven by to take the feature win. Next out were the Car Quest IMCA Hobby Stocks for their 14 lap feature. Dustin Gulbrandson led the early going before Dave Riley made the pass out of the second turn to take the point. A four car crash with four laps to go brought the field together, and after two restarts, a final caution led to a green, white, checkered finish where Riley held off the field for the win. The MOPAR IMCA Northern SportMod feature saw Kirk Beatty lead while Kaleb Kennedy latched onto his tail. Kennedy stalked Beatty [Read More]
