Start of opening day at Super Nationals postponed to 3:30 p.m.

Due to the weather, we will have the following changes to today’s (Mon., Sept. 7) program: The Late Model portion of today’s show will be postponed to Thursday, Sept 10. Today’s racing program will begin at 3:30 p.m. It will be the same program minus Late Models. Pits will open at 10:30 a.m. today. Grandstands at 2 p.m. Pit pass $25. Grandstand Adult $15. Kids/Teens $7. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Kay completes Liberty 100 Deery Weekend sweep

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (Sept. 5) – The Ideal Ready Mix Liberty 100 Weekend turned out to be a $7,000 weekend for Justin Kay. A night after winning the Iron Man Challenge and $1,000, Kay topped a pair of 50-lap, $3,000 to win features for IMCA Late Models at West Liberty Raceway. The first of those Saturday victories was also Kay’s seventh this season in the Deery Brothers Summer Series. He’ll run for a record-tying fourth straight tour win on Sept. 7 at Boone Speedway, on opening night of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Kay started the first feature from outside row one and led every circuit. Cautions on laps 15 and 38 kept the race closer but Kay still took the win well ahead of Jeff Aikey, Brian Harris, Tyler Droste and Tyler Bruening. Kay wins Iron Man on opening night of Liberty 100

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (Sept. 4) – Justin Kay proved up to the challenge on opening night of the Liberty 100 Weekend at West Liberty Raceway. Kay led the last 12 laps in winning Friday’s Ideal Ready Mix Iron Man Challenge, open to all Deery Brothers Summer Series drivers with perfect attendance this season and all former IMCA Late Model tour champions. The victory paid $1,000. Darrel DeFrance led the first two of 20 circuits from the pole. Joe Zrostlik led lap three, then Jeff Aikey enjoyed the view from the front for four trips around the track before the seventh starting Kay sped by. Aikey, Tyler Droste, Ray Guss Jr. and Zrostlik completed the top five. Winners of eight heats are in the redraw for the Saturday, Sept. 5 $3,000 to win Deery main event. Kay captures third straight IMCA Late Model national crown

VINTON, Iowa (Sept. 4) – Justin Kay joined some pretty good company by winning another IMCA Late Model national championship. From Wheatland, Kay won 17 features and the track championship at Dubuque Speedway to total 814 points and top national standings for the division for a third consecutive season. That matches the accomplishment of 2010-2012 king Ray Guss Jr. of Milan, Ill. Kay earns a $5,500 share of a $21,300 point fund to be paid to top 20 finishers in the national ranks. “The first one is still the best but the third one is pretty cool,” Kay said. “National championships get tougher to win. It’s cool to be able to do it three years in a row.” Runner-up Matt Ryan of Davenport was just three points off the pace. IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars chase $1,000 checks at Stuart Speedway’s Night Before the Nationals

STUART, Iowa – Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars both race for $1,000 to win at Stuart Speedway’s Sunday, Sept. 6 Night Before The Nationals special. The Modified main is a qualifying event for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance Iowa State points will be awarded in both divisions. Belleville Motor Sports North Central Region Modified and EQ Cylinder Head Northern Region Stock Car points are also at stake. Entry fee for both divisions is $30. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. and racing follows. Grandstand admission for the Kinzie Tire Service night show is $10 for adults, $4 for kids 5-7 and free for four and under. Mackenthun earns big money at Arlington’s Joe Voss Memorial

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 29) – A single caution was all that slowed Dan Mackenthun’s drive toward the front and eventual Joe Voss Memorial win Saturday at Arlington Raceway. Andy Altenburg was the early leader in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car 25-lapper and was first challenged by Elijah Zevenbergen. Mackenthun, the current track point leader made his way in between the two and was scored first across the stripe on the fourth circuit. Zevenbergen ran with Mackenthun for the next 18 laps before falling off the pace. Fourteenth starting Shaun Bruns made his own bid for the lead but had to settle for second. Mackenthun, nearing the 100 career win mark, earned $1,600. Brent Uecker, Dean Cornelius and Altenburg rounded out the top five. Matt Schauer won the Tough Guy Challenge and $500. Dacotah finales fall to Wilson, Berg

MANDAN, N.D. (Aug. 28) – Spencer Wilson and Jason Berg were feature winners Friday, on championship night at Dacotah Speedway. Wilson slipped by Tracy Domagala with eight laps left and pulled away to the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified checkers. Domagala finished a season-best in second. Shawn Strand’s third place finish locked up the unofficial track championship, his fourth in the past six years and career seventh title locally. Berg took the lead for good on the second circuit of the Mach-1 Sport Compact main event. Chance Seelye was a distant second while Josh Roehrich secured his second straight track crown by finishing sixth.

Two W’s for Winebarger

(Aug. 29) – Collen Winebarger was a double winner Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway, following his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory with a run to the Late Model checkers. Kreg Britton led the first nine laps of the Modified go, surrendering the point the next time around to Winebarger. Winebarger led the rest of the way, then hopped into his Late Model and drove to his second checkers of the evening. Winebarger had pulled off a similar achievement not long ago in the same two classes at Willamette Speedway.

Transponders mandatory for Modifieds, Stocks at Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa – Transponders are required again for all Modified and Stock Car competitors at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. The electronic scoring devices will be used in all races for the two divisions Wednesday through Saturday, Sept. 9-12. Drivers will be able to use their own MyLaps/ABM compatible transponder at Boone Speedway or rent one for $30 for the week. Transponders will be available in the pre-tech inspection tent and a driver’s license or credit card will be held for deposit. Transponders will also be required for the Monday, Sept. 7 Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Model main event, qualifying and last-chance features on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for Hobby Stocks and Northern SportMods, and Saturday main events for SportMods and Hobby Stocks. The devices will be installed at no charge to those drivers. MyLaps remains the official timing and scoring system of IMCA and Super Nationals.
