URSS sets sails for two-day WaKeeney Showdown

WaKEENEY, Kan. – The United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing has set its sail on the two-day WaKeeney Showdown this Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27. The weekend’s events will take place atop the 3/8-mile semi-banked dirt oval of WaKeeney Speedway.  Saturday’s URSS feature winner will take home $700. Racing is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Sunday’s winner will earn $1,000. Racing is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. General admission is $20 for adults, kids ages 7-12 are $5 and children 6 and under are free both days.  The WaKeeney Showdown will conclude the IMCA point season and many non-regular series drivers are expected to attend vying for their last chance at an IMCA championship.

Blurton collects career 4th Soderberg Memorial win

(Sept. 19) – Zach Blurton added a fourth Jerry Soderberg Memorial Champion­ship win to his resume by topping Saturday’s season-ending DCRP vs. United Rebel Sprint Series feature event atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval.  Blurton slid past Kyler Johnson on a lap three restart and led to the finish of the 25-lapper for IMCA Racesaver Sprint Cars for his second Dodge City win of the year and third consecutive win in the season-ender.  After an early red flag, Blurton weathered one more red flag seven laps shy of the checkered flag when Connor Atkinson flipped in turn two. Blurton tops URSS finale at Oberlin Bob Salem Memorial

OBERLIN, Kan. (Aug. 14-15) – The runner-up on opening night was the winner on night two, when the Mel Hambelton Ford Racing Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series traveled to Oberlin Speedway for the Bob Salem Memorial. Zach Blurton topped the Saturday show for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars after passing Koby Wal­ters for the front spot on the 14th of 25 circuits. Jake Martens, Walters, Monty Ferriera, and Jed Werner rounded out the top five.  Monty Ferriera took off with the early lead and stretched his advantage to about eight car-lengths before slipping off of the track and passing the lead position to Walters. Lap 14 found Blurton riding around the top of turn two to get past Walters for the lead while Ferri­era worked his way back into fourth. United Rebel Sprint Series back in action at Bob Salem Memorial

OBERLIN, Kansas – The Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing returns to action this Friday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Aug. 15 for the Bob Salem Memorial at Oberlin, Kan., Speedway Friday’s event will pay $700 to the winner. On Saturday, the feature winner of the Bob Salem Memorial finale will take home a $1,000 payday.   Races are slated to begin at 7 p.m. both nights. Admission is $20, kids ages 7-12 $5, and kids 6 and under free.  Jake Bubak captured the feature win in 2019 on Friday night’s event while Jason Martin was the Saturday night Bob Salem Memorial finale feature winner.  The Bob Salem Memorial will be streamed live on Speedmax TV (IMCA.TV) for $15 each night or $25 for both nights.

United Rebel Sprint Series heads to Sherman County Speedway this Sunday

GOODLAND, Kan. – The POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing is coming off a busy weekend with an action-packed month ahead.  On Sunday, Aug. 9, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series competitors head to the 3/8-mile Sher­man County Speedway in Goodland, Kan. Hot laps are slated to begin at 4 p.m. with green flag racing set to start at 5 p.m. for the county fair race  Looking ahead, the URSS will prepare for a doubleheader weekend on Aug. 14 and 15 at Oberlin Speedway in Oberlin, Kan. In 2019, Jake Bubak and Jason Martin were victorious at the 3/8-mile semi-banked dirt track.   The Dodge City Raceway Park Nationals will take place Aug. 20-22 and tentatively rounding out the month the schedule sees the United Rebel Sprint Series at Phillips County Speedway in Holyoke, Kan., on Aug. 28.

Richardson is best in URSS opener at Bullring Nationals

LaCROSSE, Kan. (July 25) – The POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing took to the Bullring at Rush County Speedway and Steven Richardson maneuvered a last lap pass to claim the night one Bullring Nationals feature win.  Zach Blurton and Jordan Knight set the pace for the 25-lap feature event for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars. Blurton took off with the early lead. Koby Walters and Jordan Knight fell in behind the race leader. Blurton finessed lapped traffic on lap seven, separating some distance between himself and the runner-up.   A late race caution saw the field bunched back up. Some confusion on the restart called for mass chaos for front-runners Blurton and Walters. Both took off for the restart but the waving of the green had not yet occurred. Bull Ring Nationals doubleheader on tap for URSS at Rush County

LACROSSE, Kan. – The Mel Hambelton Ford Racing POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series will head to The Bullring of Rush County Speedway in LaCrosse, Kan., for the Bull Ring Nationals on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26.  The preparation and awesome racing provided by the Rush County Speedway crew is one of the favorites for United Rebel Sprint Series drivers and fans. Broken Arrow, Okla.’s Jake Martens was crowned the 2019 Bull Ring Nationals champion. The Bull Ring Nationals will pay $700 to the winner on Saturday night and $1,000 will be on the line for the top spot on Sunday. Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. both nights with racing slated to begin at 7 p.m.

Hutchinson Nationals URSS checkers fly for Velasquez

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (July 17) – For the first time in history, the Mel Hambelton Ford Racing POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series competed at the Hutchinson Nationals. Taylor Velasquez of Liberal, Kansas captured his first win of the year with the series at the 64th event Friday at the Kansas State Fairgrounds, becoming the ninth different winner in eleven races.  Jordan Knight and J.D. Johnson set the pace for the 20-lap feature. Knight took off with the early lead while Williams worked his way from fifth starting to second by lap 11. Knight and Velasquez battled hard and made contact with a few laps remaining. Velasquez got past Knight for the lead on lap 19. Williams wins night one at Wheatshocker Nationals

HAYS, Kan. (July 11) – The United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Rac­ing took on night one of the Wheatshocker Nationals at RPM Speedway Saturday night. A stacked 20-car field was in attendance and Ty Williams was the front-runner.   Shane Sundquist and J.D. Johnson lined up on the front row of the 25-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature. Shane Sundquist took off with the early lead, but not without Koby Walters eager to grab the top position.  Walters took the top spot and Ty Williams was next to challenge Sundquist for second place. A rim-riding Williams and Walters battled for the lead until lap 15 when Williams claimed the top spot. Walters hung on to the second position until the last lap when hard-charger Jason Martin nipped him at the line to take the runner-up position with Walters settling for third.   Feature results – 1. Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP Sprint Car Nationals shaping up quickly

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – Just six weeks away, the fourth annual Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP Sprint Car Nationals are rapidly taking shape. Taking shape in a wide variety of special award sponsors and lap sponsors, the event is set for Aug. 20-22 atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval.  The three-day tilt pitting the Hambelton Racing DCRP versus the United Rebel Sprint Series with a number of other invaders from throughout gets under way with two full nights of heat races and features on Thursday and Friday that will set the stage for Saturday’s $3,000-to-win, $400-to-start 30-lap finale.
