HAYS, Kan. (July 11) – The United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Rac­ing took on night one of the Wheatshocker Nationals at RPM Speedway Saturday night. A stacked 20-car field was in attendance and Ty Williams was the front-runner.  

Shane Sundquist and J.D. Johnson lined up on the front row of the 25-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature. Shane Sundquist took off with the early lead, but not without Koby Walters eager to grab the top position. 

Walters took the top spot and Ty Williams was next to challenge Sundquist for second place. A rim-riding Williams and Walters battled for the lead until lap 15 when Williams claimed the top spot.

Walters hung on to the second position until the last lap when hard-charger Jason Martin nipped him at the line to take the runner-up position with Walters settling for third.

Plemons banks $1,100 for career first URSS victory

(June 8) – Todd Plemons took the lead at the start and held off Zach Blurton to claim his first-career Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing 305-ci sprint car feature Saturday at El Paso County Raceway. Tracey Hill and Plemons started on the front row for the 20-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car fea­ture finale with Hill taking the lead as the initial green flag fell. The race quickly went caution when two cars got together entering turns one and two. On the complete restart, Plemons took the lead while Zach Blurton charged from his fourth start­ing position to take the runner-up position as Hill fell back to third.  Plemons kept up the pace the rest of the distance and picked up his first career series victory and a $1,100 paycheck while two-time and defending tour champion Blurton came home second. Belleville, Mayetta events next for United Rebel Sprint Series

By David Smith Jr., OKTidbits OBERLIN, Kan. – A busy holiday weekend is just ahead as the Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing kicks off Thursday night atop the Belleville High Banks Speedway in Belleville, Kan., before making lone 2019 appearance at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta on Saturday night.  The Independence Day special will pay $1,000 to win with $200 for all drivers making the feature finale. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with hot laps scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Racing is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start time. Adult general admission tickets are $18 with kids ages 10-17 $10. All children nine and younger will be admitted into the grandstands for free. A huge firework show follows the races on Thursday night. After taking Friday night off, the tour will then head east to Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta for a special “Clash on the Hill,” Saturday night edition of IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car racing. URSS starts season Saturday at Dodge City

DODGE CITY, Kan. – Last week’s originally scheduled season opener at 81 Speedway for the Drive to Zero POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing was postponed due to inclement weather. As a result, the season is now slated to kick off this Saturday, April 24 at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan.  The 3/8-mile semi-banked clay oval opens this year under new management. Long-time Sprint Car driver Craig Dollansky and his team have devoted hours of time and enhancements to the facility leading up to the season. A great field of cars is expected as drivers and teams look forward to racing under the new improvements and promoter.  Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday with the green flag flying over competition at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission is $10 with kids 12 and under admitted free of charge.  The United Rebel Sprint Series will also award last year’s competitors with their respective trophies during or after the competition Saturday night.    The series has partnered with the Drive to Zero [Read More]
