Rust wins thriller at 25th annual Harris Clash

By Ryan Clark WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (Aug. 9) – Joel Rust had the greatest seat for the best race in the house for most of 25 laps Tuesday night at Hamilton County Speedway. Little did he know, a short time later it would lead the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified driver to a victory lane celebration as the winner of the Harris Clash. Rust, who started inside of row two, chased front row starters Chris Abelson and Kelly Shryock for all but three-quarters of a lap in the 25th annual event. Contact between the front-runners allowed Rust to escape to the first Harris Clash win of his career. Abelson built an early lead while Shryock pursued multiple car-lengths behind him. Shryock closed to within a car-length by lap 10 and searched high and low to work past the leader. Rutkoski races to $1,000 payday at Flomaton

FLOMATON, Ala. (Aug. 6) – Kyle Rutkoski’s continued Bay Area Emerald Coast Tour success has put him on the ballot for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Rutkoski won Saturday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature and $1,000 during the Jarrod Johns Memorial program at Flomaton Speedway. Rain delayed the drop of the green. Once the main event got underway, Brandon Harris took the early lead as Josh Goodwin tried to reel him in. Rutkoski made his way to the front and set his sights on the big check. In the closing laps, Jason Barnhill tried every line to make up the distance was trying to catch Rutkoski. Pattee’s first win comes at Independence’s 500th IMCA Modified main

By Bucky Doren INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (Aug. 6) – It was a double milestone night Saturday at Independence Motor Speedway. On the night the track celebrated its 500th IMCA Modified feature event, driver Tysus Pattee scored his first career win in that division. Despite his front row starting spot, Pattee had to work hard for his first career win. Three late caution flags tightened the field behind him. Jenae Gustin, who also scored her first two career IMCA Modified wins at Indee, and Ronn Lauritzen tried to keep pace on those three restarts, but Pattee was able to pull away for the historic win. Gustin settled for second. Lauritzen drove from the 11th place starting spot to finish third. Ryan Maitland finished fourth and Vern Jackson rounded out the top five. Osborn, Gottschalk among Lexington winners

LEXINGTON, Neb. (Aug. 7) – With limited time remaining in the regular season, every point matters that much more and the fierce competition showcased at Lexington Raceway on Sunday evening was evident of the neck-and-neck battles throughout the evening on the Dawson County Fairgrounds. Leading from the onset and never looking back was Colton Osborn as he put on a dominating performance to win the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. Osborn piloted his hot rod to the lead on the first lap and led all 20 laps of the feature event. Marriott drives away to IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour win at Clay County

By Ryan Clark SPENCER, Iowa (Aug. 8) – His second Hawkeye Dirt Tour win was the series’ biggest payday for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified driver Hunter Marriott. The Brookfield, Mo. driver took the lead at midway en route to a $5,000 winner’s share Monday night in the tour’s first-ever visit to Clay County Fair Speedway. Marriott started in row two and was involved in a five-car battle for position before breaking through on the 15th of 30 laps. Justin Medler paced the field from his pole position start while a handful of drivers gave chase. Ricky Thornton Jr., Kelly Shryock and Marriott took turns in the runner-up spot before Marriott made the high side work to his liking. Williamson wins on fan appreciation night at Cottage Grove

(Aug. 6) – Despite power problems in the southern Willamette Valley for much of the day due to a local aviation accident, it was fully restored just in time so that all of the racing would be completed for Fan Appreciation Night at Cottage Grove Speedway. The Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified finale was an incredible race as Grey Ferrando had the race of his life. Ferrando got out in front on the opening start and was the car to beat for much of the feature until Jesse Williamson brought pressure. Coming to the white flag Williamson edged out Ferrando, but Ferrando took the spot back out of turn two. When the two cars exited the fourth and final turn it was Williamson collecting his third local win of the season. Grey Ferrando got sideways on the front stretch and got together with Mark Wauge. Season enters final month at Raceway Park

JEFFFERSON, S.D. (Aug. 7) – With only three more nights remaining before IMCA season championships will be decided, racers were gunning for the checkered flag Sunday at Raceway Park. The first feature of the evening was in the KISS 107 FM IMCA Sport Compact division where Luke Jackson made the pass on early leader Don Tank at the conclusion of the fourth lap en route to a feature victory. Tank held the second position until the final turn of the final lap, when Ramsey Meyer slipped by on the inside for the position. Steven Pierce led every lap of the CarQuest IMCA Hobby Stock feature for his second win of the season. While Pierce was in front enjoying a clear view, the action behind him was wild from start to finish. Kay stands tallest twice at LaSalle’s One Night Stand

LASALLE, Ill. (Aug. 6) – One driver stood above the rest twice at LaSalle Speedway’s One Night Stand. Justin Kay topped both the $3,000 to win IMCA Late Model feature and the $2,000 to win Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event Saturday night. While he’d been to the Illinois oval twice before as a spectator, his weekend visit to LaSalle was Kay’s competitive first. He led all but the first of 40 Late Model circuits and all 30 Modified laps. Tyler Soppe was the $2,000 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod winner. At-large balloting complete, 18 more All-Stars announced

BOONE, Iowa – Two more former race winners joined the field for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational through the at-large round of voting. Jay Noteboom, winner of the 2005 and 2008 events, and Chris Abelson, the 2011 race winner, are among 18 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified drivers advancing from the second round of balloting, which ended on Friday. Noteboom will start his career ninth All-Star event, more than any other driver, on Friday, Sept. 9 during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Boone Speedway. Abelson takes the All-Star green for a sixth straight year. Off Road Speedway point leaders pace finishers

(Aug. 6) – The time for making a move in the points standings at Off Road Speedway is running out as just three nights of racing remain before Championship Night on Sept. 3. Not surprisingly, among the top finishers during Saturday night’s features were several names found toward the top of those division standings. In the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature, for example, the top three places went to drivers who happen to be listed first, second, and third in the standings … Lance Mielke, Shannon Pospisil and Brooke Fluckiger, respectively … and within 10 total points of each other. Mielke picked up a critical second win of the season at Off Road Speedway among 11 top five finishes in 12 races. Pospisil and Fluckiger each added a ninth top five finish to their 12-race total.
