Kansas Thunder Series returns to Stockton

By Mike Hughes STOCKTON, Kan. (Aug. 11) – The Kansas Thunder Series ½-mile Shootout returned to Rooks County Speedway in Stockton Thursday evening, as part of the Rooks County Fair. Two new faces appeared in victory lane, and two other made repeat appearances. Clay Money led from green to checkered in the 15-lap Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. Kaid Calhoon chased Money the entire race but finished second, trailed by Randy Wilson, Brian Calhoon and Tim Watts. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature got off to a rough start as it took three attempts before the race finally got underway. Brady Bencken paced the first two laps before Colton Pfeifer took the lead. Pfeifer ran over debris on lap seven and had to pit to change a tire under caution, handing the lead back to Bencken. Hancock County rained out for Friday night

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 12) – Nights of 1,000 and 10,000 Stars will wait for new nights at Hancock County Speedway. The Night of 1,000 Stars, originally rescheduled for tonight (Friday) has been rained out and will be held Saturday, Aug. 13 at Britt. As a result, the Night of 10,000 Stars initially rescheduled for tomorrow evening will be held Sunday, Aug. 14. Racing starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Allstar Race has been postponed. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds headline both Saturday and Sunday specials, running for a potential $10,000 to win at both Iowa Modified Speedweek events. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks complete each program. Both the Night of 1,000 Stars and the Night of 10,000 Stars will be broadcast on IMCA.TV.

Early IMCA Super Nationals entry numbers already at record 462

BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 12) – There’s already a car count record to be bragged about three weeks before the start of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Four hundred and sixty-two drivers have already pre-registered for the Sept. 5-10 Super Nationals at Boone Speedway. Even figuring in the addition of the Southern SportMods to the America’s Racin’ Vacation program, that’s light years ahead of pre-registration numbers at the same time for each of the four previous Super Nationals … 272 in 2012, 295 in 2013, 333 in 2014 and 317 in 2015. Inaugural Sander’s Mod Challenge Tour ready to rock Aug. 18-21

By Mike Spieker FARGO, N.D. – What was once a high-paying, one-night, mid-summer special is now a four-race, full-blown Modified tour. It’s the Sander’s Modified Challenge Tour and it’s set to rip through the Red River Valley of North Dakota and Minnesota in August, featuring the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. The Sander’s Modified Challenge began in 2012 at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn. The first running of the event featured a $1,000 top prize and a total purse of just over $6,000. Since then, the event has continued to grow by leaps and bounds. The payout for the 2015 edition of the Sander’s Mod Challenge boasted an $18,700 purse, meaning last year’s sixth place finisher was able to take home a bigger check than the inaugural winner. With the larger payouts came record-breaking car counts. IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Nationals totes potential $5,000 top prize

EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 11) – The more than 130 drivers already pre-entered for the Sept. 1-4 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Nationals main event will now be racing for a potential $5,000 top prize. In addition to the guaranteed $2,500, IMCA will pay the Sprint Nationals champion a bonus of $50 for each sanctioned start they’ve made this season. That means a driver who’s made 50 IMCA starts and takes the Sept. 4 checkers at Eagle Raceway can double his or her money. “We have paid bonuses based on the number of sanctioned starts to champions at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s for several years,” said Brett Root, president of the sanctioning body. “The growth of the IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car division and the entry numbers for this event certainly justify paying a similar bonus at Sprint Nationals.” That bonus will be presented during the IMCA national awards banquet in November. Hancock County IMCA Stars specials are postponed

BRITT, Iowa – Each of the three Iowa Modified Speedweek specials at Hancock County Speedway have been postponed because of inclement weather. The Night of 1,000 Stars will now be held Friday, Aug. 12; The Night of 10,000 Stars on Saturday, Aug. 13, and the All Star Show on Sunday, Aug. 14 at Britt. Racing follows 6:30 p.m. hot laps Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. hot laps on Sunday. All three Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main events boast potential winner’s checks of $10,000. Marriott’s IMCA Modified ‘A’ game is good for second Hawkeye Dirt Tour win in three nights

ALTA, Iowa (Aug. 10) – Hunter Marriott brought his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified ‘A’ game to Buena Vista Raceway on Wednesday. The result was his second Hawkeye Dirt Tour feature win in three nights. Marriott restarted inside row one after frontrunners Chris Abelson and Kyle Strickler got together to bring out a lap six caution, then led the last 25 times around the track to top the $1,500-to-win feature at Alta. United Rebel Sprint Series visits Stockton Friday

STOCKTON, Kan. – The United Rebel Sprint Series will make its first appearance on the historic half-mile oval at the Rooks County Speedway Friday night, Aug. 12 as part of the Kansas Thunder Series. Luke Cranston continues to lead the point battle with Zach Blurton close behind in second. Several of the battles in the rest of the top ten are within a handful of points. Joining the URSS Sprint Cars are the cruisers, bombers and Kansas Antique Racers vintage cars.
