By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (July 31) – It was Hunting with Heroes Salute to Veterans Night at the Boone Speedway on Saturday, with 205 race cars packing the pits and running before a full grandstand. Jake McBirnie repeated his win from last week in the IMCA Modified division, as did Mike Kennedy in the IMCA STARS Mod Lites. Logan Anderson in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Dylan Nelson in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks captured their first wins of the year and Johnathon Logue saw his first career win in an IMCA Sunoco Stock Car. The Modifieds ran 25 laps for their main event. Richie Gustin started on the outside front row and shot into the lead, seeking the $3,000 payday. McBirnie started fourth and tucked in immediately to run in second.  Gustin took to the top of the track while McBirnie challenged on the low side. A slight bobble by Gustin allowed McBirnie to slip by and into the lead on lap 12 and that was all he needed to take his [Read More]

Barker banks big money following Joe Crist Memorial win at US 36

By Rick Staley  OSBORN, Mo. (July 30) – After a heartwarming opening ceremony set the stage for US 36 Raceway’s Joe Crist Memorial, Travis Barker went home with the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win and $2,062. Barker, already eligible to qualify for the B & B Chassis All-Star Invitational, and Conner Masoner started on the front row and set the pace for the star-studded event.  Barker got the lead and saw Shadren Turner charge by and slide past, but not for long as Barker held the high line to perfection and drove back by Turner.  As Barker paced the field, Chad Clancy worked his way toward the front to challenge for the lead, pressuring Barker to make a bobble. Racing was fierce as throughout the field as Kasey Ayers challenged the frontrunners. Doug Keller was in contention all night as he, J.J. Baumli and Ayers battled. Masoner slowly faded as hard charger Blake Peeler, who had won the ‘B’ feature to advance, complted his advance from the 22nd starting position to challenge in the closing laps. [Read More]

The 24-car field did a great job as the race went green to checkered without a hitch. Laney, who started on the inside of the front row, and Zane DeVilbiss, who manned the outside of the front row, broke away early from the field.  DeVilbiss stayed close early but had nothing for Laney, already Fast Shafts All-Star qualifying eligible, earned the win. 30th Harris Clash marks milestone with $10,000 IMCA Modified top prize

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. – Thirty years ago, Bob Harris didn’t think the IMCA Harris Clash would ever get this big.  As late as a couple weeks ago, the promoter of IMCA’s longest-running one-day special never thought it would pay this big, either. More than 110 IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods are already pre-registered for the 30th annual Clash Tuesday, Aug. 3 at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn.  Harris had the pleasure of making the announcement late last week that the Modifieds would be racing for $10,000 to win. Wehrs Machine and Racing Products, along with Aero Race Wheels, AFCO, Close Racing, Performance Bodies and Strange Oval, all chipped to double what had been the winner’s original share of the purse. In addition, race announcers will draw midway through the Modified 30-lapper to determine recipients of two $500 awards for drivers finishing between sixth and 25th.  “It’s been pretty exciting.
