Martens, Bubak score at Wheatshocker Nationals

HAYS, Kan. (July 13-14) – Jake Martens scored his second big United Rebel Sprint Series victory of the year as he charged from the fifth starting spot to claim the $2,000 Wheatshocker Nationals checkers Sunday at RPM Speedway. Front row starter Brian Herbert had begun to pull away until Martens reeled him in and took over the front spot on lap 10. Martens stretched his lead to a full straightaway as Jake Bubak took over second place on lap 17. The race was slowed by the only caution of the night on lap 26 but Martens was untouchable, winning ahead of Bubak and Darren Berry. Bubak’s victory in the Saturday’s preliminary IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature and his second place finish Sunday earned him the Pit Boss Pellet grille from Lance Pittman of S&W Supply for being the overall high point driver for the two-day event. $1,500 is top IMCA Modified check Saturday at Perris

PERRIS, Calif. – IMCA Modifieds race for $1,500 to win and a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth at Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday, July 21. The 30-lapper awards IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Race Cars Western Region, California State and track points. As well as the increased purse, numerous contingencies have been added to the night: Corona-based Eibach Springs will award a $125 gift certificate to the driver who finishes one position out of the redraw spot in each heat race. RaceSaver Sprints run Wednesday at Jackson

JACKSON, Minn. – The Heartland Steel Racesaver Sprint Cars presented by Wyffels Hybrids will be added to the Jackson Motorplex program on Wednesday, July 18 with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the LMSS Touring Series. IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars will be racing for $600 to win, plus IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and state points, plus a new Keizer wheel. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. for the draw/redraw show.

Harris wires the Bridge for Virginia Sprint Series win

(July 14) – After numerous top five finishes this year, Tony Harris got the lead on lap one and wired the Virginia Sprint Series feature at Natural Bridge Speedway for his first win of the season. Bill Rice and Chris Ware paced the Saturday IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green but Harris quickly swept low and to the front. Mike Leraas worked on Rice for second as Harris cruised up front. Arneson treats himself to Shawano checkers

(July 14) – Lance Arneson secured his first IMCA Modified win of the year with a last-lap pass of Wyatt Block when Shawano Speedway celebrated Halloween at the Half Mile on Saturday night. Ageless Jerry Muenster led lap one before his son Eddie made an outside pass to take the top spot. Block raced past Jerry for second by lap five and set his sights squarely on Eddie. Block got underneath Eddie on lap eight to take the lead. Arneson was moving quickly toward the front and as Block took the white flag, Arneson went to the high line and found an advantage. The pair raced door-to-door through turns three and four. Arneson pulled ahead as they approached the checkered flag to score his first win of the year. IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner earns $5,000 at 141’s King of the Creek

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car king, or queen, at 141 Speedway’s July 19-21 King of the Creek special banks $5,000. Qualifying begins on Friday, July 20; last chance races and the main event are on Saturday, July 21. Entry fee for the Stocks is $100. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods race for $500 to win both nights while Mach-1 Sport Compacts are on deck for a $250 to win show on Friday. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region and Wisconsin State points will be awarded. An open practice is planned for Thursday evening, July 19. Pit gates open at 2 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Pit passes are $25 on Thursday and $30 Friday and Saturday; a three-day pit pass is $75. Sweet victory for Berghahn at Bumblebee Nationals

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 12) – Denny Berghahn Jr. made a long trip from Nebraska $1,000 better as he topped a 19-car field to win the second annual Bumblebee Nationals at Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday, night. National point leader Bubba Brown and Stephanie Coopman led the field to green for the 25-lap feature with Berghahn, who started on the outside of the second row, taking the lead immediately. From that point, all that slowed Berghahn in the drive for the best payday of his career were a quintet of cautins. Hard charger Jerry Coopman advanced nine spots to end in second with Jake Benischek, Stephanie Coopman and Jarad Gross rounding out the to five. Tad Reutzel and Bryce Sommerfield picked up their third local feature wins of the season in the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock divisions, respectively, with Derek Green taking the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature for the second straight week and Doug Cook topping the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for the first time.

Wheatshocker Nationals on Tap for URSS

HAYS, Kan. – After last week’s three races in six days, the United Rebel Sprint Series will next head this Saturday and Sunday, July 14 and 15 to the 10th running of the Wheatshocker Nationals at RPM Speedway in Hays, Kan., for their opening weekend of the Ellis County Fair. Oklahoma’s Andy Shouse took home top honors in last years event, collecting the $2000 winner’s share and also taking home the custom Pit Boss Pellet Grille furnished by Lance Pittmann of S&W Supply/Federated Auto Parts of Hays for being the top point earner of the two-day event. This year’s event will once again pay $2,000 to the winner with $200 to start in Saturday’s championship feature. Pittman will once again furnish a custom Pit Boss Pellet Grille to the overall high point driver of the two-day show. Championship chase action heats up at Dodge City Raceway Park

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – Just as the summer temperatures continue to intensify, so do the championship points battles at Dodge City Raceway Park. And it will continue on Saturday night, July 14 with another round of action atop the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas featuring the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Saturday’s racing action will go green at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults while children 11 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30. The DCRP Sprint Cars have this weekend off and will return to action on the July 27 Driver Appreciation Night.
