Tri-State remembers fallen officer

(May 6) – Muldrow pilot Kayden Menasco captured the IMCA Modified checkers for the first time this season Saturday at Tri-State Speedway over Jason Payton and Stephen Muilen­burg. Pre-race ceremonies honored the late Danny Martinez Jr. and several law enforcement vehicles from area agencies joined parade laps during the playing of the National Anthem. Martinez, a Fort Smith Police Department officer and racer, was killed in the line of duty just over 10 years ago.

Mitchell is IMCA Late Model winner at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 5) – Justin Mitchell was the dominant winner Friday night, when IMCA Late Models made their return to the weekly race program at Marshalltown Speedway. Mitchell led from start to finish. Seventh place starter Jason Hahne was the runner up and hometown driver Darrel DeFrance was third. Kyle Brown took the early lead in the IMCA Modified feature, and never looked back on his way to the winner’s circle, a $1,000 check and a spot on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Jesse Hoeft made the haul down from Forest City and finished second. Jacob Murray started ninth and finished third. Jeff Mueller stamped his first win in the books at Marshalltown in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division and looked strong in doing so. Friday Modified feature at Davenport has surprise finish 

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 5) – Friday night’s Eriksen IMCA Modified main event at Davenport had a little bit of everything, including a surprise finish. After the original start was wiped out by a yellow flag, Rick Hixson jumped out to the early lead from the third starting position. Hixson survived several challenges and a couple restarts. On the final lap, however, Hixson left a little room on the bottom in turn two. When Rob Toland tried to fill the hole, the two made contact with Hixson’s car going around and bringing out the yellow. Both drivers were put to the back, ultimately giving the win to Eric Barnes. Matt Werner was scored second with Mitch Morris third. Jason Pershy and Darin Duffy finished fourth and fifth respectively. Thirty-three Modifieds were on hand. Scott scores opening night win at Farley 

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa (May 5) – Farley Speedway held its 2017 season opening point races on Friday night and Johnny Scott of Cameron, Missouri advanced from a sixth row start to score an impres­sive IMCA Modified win. Scott took the 20-lap feature win ahead of Jeff Larson and J.D. Auringer. Tyler Soppe continued his early season hot streak with another Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature win, this one ahead of Tim Plummer and Austin Heacock. IMCA Late Models brought the night’s racing action to a close with Joel Callahan scoring the 25-lap feature win ahead of Justin Kay and Jeremiah Hurst.

IMCA Central Iowa Stock Car Showdown set for May 9 at Hamilton County

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa – IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars race for $2,000 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $1,000 to win at Hamilton County Speedway’s Tuesday, May 9 Central Iowa Stock Car Showdown. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded in both divisions. Pit gates at Webster City open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $17 for adults, $10 for kids ages 6-15 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $30. Radivoy races to CRSA checkers at Orange County

(April 29) – The Super Gen Products and Champion Power Equipment-sponsored CRSA Sprint Tour made its first of five stops on the schedule at Orange County Fair Speedway on Saturday, which was also the first of five races on the Hard Clay Challenge Series. Thomas Radivoy, a native of Circleville, took his no. 1Q IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car to victory lane leading all 20 laps of the green to checkered flag main event. Radivoy made the redraw through a third-place finish in his heat race and pulled the outside pole. Emily VanInwegen earned the runner-up spot after she came away from the redraw with the pole. She was able to hold off Eddie Strada, who came away with third. Christian Rumsey and Tyler Jashembowski rounded out the top five. The CRSA tour will return to action on Friday, May 12 with the first of four stops at Afton Motorsports Park, which will also be the first points show in the Algonkin Motel Challenge. Sprint Series of Oklahoma set for Friday show at Red Dirt Raceway

By David Smith Jr. MEEKER, Okla. – The Sprint Series of Oklahoma IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Series presented by Smiley’s Racing Products will be back in action Friday, May 5 as the tour makes the first of two ap­pearances of the season at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker. This event will be race three on the 2017 SSO schedule with Joe Wood Jr. of Oklahoma City pick­ing up the victory this past Friday night in Wichita Falls, Texas, while Texan Chad Koch picked up the season-opening victory at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in late March. The SSO visited the quarter-mile red-clay oval in Meeker last year with Jake Martens and Andy Shouse picking up victories. Shouse’s lone SSO victory last year helped propel him to the inaugu­ral series championship, as well as the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car national crown. Fifth annual IMCA Modified Stampede is Saturday at Dodge City

While the IMCA Modifieds battle it out for a $1,200 winner’s share in their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier, championship chase action continues as well for the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Stief masters field to win first-ever Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series feature

(April 30) – Rick Stief scored his second career Racesaver 305 Sprint Car victory in the first-ever Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series event Sunday at Bridgeport Speedway. Stief started fourth and took the lead on lap 14 after early race leader Ryan Stillwaggon’s engine expired while maintaining over a straightaway gap on Stief and the rest of the field. High line takes Tony Harris to Shenandoah checkers

(April 29) – Tony Harris used the high line to save his tires and become the third different winner in as many Virginia Sprint Series events this season Saturday at Shenan­doah Speedway. Bill Rice and Tony Harris paced the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to the feature green flag and it was on with Rice out first. Harris quickly moved to the top and by the finish of lap one he was leading. Anthony Linkenhoker and Jerald Harris quickly made it to Tony’s rear bumper and they went at it all race with Tony us­ing the high line to keep up speed.
