By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (June 15) – Austin Paul visited victory lane for the first time this season at Southern Iowa Speedway, following Wednesday’s KBOE Radio IMCA Northern SportMod main event. VanDerWal was second ahead of Carter VanDenBerg, VanGelder and Jason McDaniel. In the Musco Lighting IMCA Modified feature, Scott Dickey appeared to be heading to the win as he led the first 13 laps but points leader Colt Mather grabbed the top spot away on lap 14 and went on to pick up the win ahead of Dickey, Zack Vander Beek, North Carolina’s Kyle Strickler and California’s Cody Laney. Cayden Carter cruised to his seventh straight Budweiser IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win. 51 IMCA Modifieds at Willamette but rain is Wednesday Wild West Shoot Out winner

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (June 15) – Fifty-one Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds packed the pits for round five of the Wild West Shoot Out but rain was the Wednesday night winner at Willamette Speedway. Teams made the trip to Lebanon from the states of Oregon, Washington, California, North Dakota, Montana, Colorado, and North Carolina as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia. During the support class main event, a heavy rain began to fall and brought an early halt to that race.  Unfortunately, the race was not able to be resumed and the IMCA Modified feature was not able to be held. It is the first time that a Wild West Shoot Out race has fallen victim to weather since 2013 at Cottage Grove Speedway. The entire preliminary program was able to be completed with Mark Carrell, Brad Martin and Ryan Gaylord the winners of the three “B” mains. Sunset Speedway Park in Banks is the next stop on the tour. The bullring will host an appreciation party, presented by FinishLine Graphics, [Read More]

Wauge holds on to win round four of Wild West Shoot Out at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 14) – Despite drama on the last lap, Mark Wauge emerged from Tuesday’s Wild West Modified Shoot Out feature at Cottage Grove Speedway with the $1,000 feature win. While the second half of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event ran practically caution free, Wauge had a close call on the final circuit after another car came to a halt in turn four. Wauge, and the rest of the field, managed to miss the stopped car and crossed the line to win for the second time in his Shoot Out career. Alex Stanford was scored second, followed by Bricen James, Danny Lauer and Randy Brown. Wauge had started from the pole position and built a sizable lead early on.  Following a lap seven restart, he paced the pack for a long green flag run. As Wauge started to catch the tail end of the field, he was briefly bottled up in lapped traffic before the yellow came out on lap 18. He remained in charge to the [Read More]

Once in front, Kay can’t be caught in Deery Series feature at West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (June 14) – Another West Liberty Deery Brothers Summer Series show, another IMCA Late Model tour win for Justin Kay. Kay led the last 22 of 40 laps in winning Tuesday’s main event at West Liberty Raceway. The $2,000 victory was his sixth in nine events there since July of 2013 – he finished fourth, second and third in the other three races – and third in as many outings in the car Brian Birkhofer had been driving. “We’d won weekly shows at Davenport Friday and West Liberty on Saturday. We didn’t make any changes from the weekly show here,” Kay said following Deery career win number 17. “We always enjoy racing at West Liberty.” Denny Eckrich had won the 30th annual tour opener back in April and led the first 17 circuits Tuesday night. Lapped traffic forced him to change lanes however and Kay was quick to pounce, taking the lead on the lower line coming out of turn two. The only caution of the race waved on lap 20. Long haul to West Liberty pays off for IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour winner Abelson

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (June 14) – Chris Abelson had never been to West Liberty Raceway before Tuesday evening’s Hawkeye Dirt Tour event. A thousand dollars richer, the 2015 national champion and new Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified series point leader was probably already looking forward to his next 5-1/2 hour tow there from his home in Sioux City. “I’d never seen the track before tonight. I’ve never been to West Liberty before in my life,” said Abelson, who took over at the front after leader Justin Kay broke just before midway in the 30-lapper. “It was a long trip for us but after chasing the national deal last year, we want to focus more on special events and races like the Hawkeye Dirt Tour.” “We’re going to chase series points this season and hopefully come away with the championship,” he continued. Kay, winner of the Deery Brothers Summer Series feature for Late Models, led through lap 12 before pulling off with motor issues. “I shut it down,” he said, “and tried not to wreck anything [Read More]

Duke is latest PASS winner at Clinton County

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (June 10) – The third Pennsylvania Sprint Series event of the season at Clinton County Raceway produced the third different winner Friday night. Ken Duke started on the pole for the 20-lap feature and held off the late race challenge of Scott Lutz for the checkers. Lutz had started fourth but couldn’t keep up with the pace Duke ran early on. A two-time track champion at Lock Haven, Duke had one close call late in the contest when he and Lutz got together going into turn one. “I didn’t see him there going into turn one and we kind of got together a little bit. I really did not mean to chop him, I don’t like to race like that,” Duke said. “We were in the right spot to start on the pole to get the win.” Lutz, who won on opening night, settled for second. Dale Schweikart, Reed Thompson and Ryan Lynn, who came back from a lap nine tangle, rounded out the top five. Feature results – 1. Ken Duke; 2. [Read More]

Late-race pass helps Chadwick go back-to-back in Wild West Modified Shoot Out

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 13) – Kellen Chadwick stayed persistent and was rewarded with his second straight Wild West Modified Shoot Out feature win Monday at Cottage Grove Speedway. The $1,000 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified checkers were the second in as many nights for Chadwick, who’d also won Sunday at Siskiyou Motor Speedway. Tripp Gaylord took full advantage of his pole starting position to get to the front early. The first-time visitor to Cottage Grove mastered the middle of the track and kept all challengers at bay for much of the race. Unfortunately for Gaylord, he wouldn’t be able to build on his lead due to several cautions occurring in the first half of the race. Despite the yellows, the young Gaylord was good enough on the restarts to maintain the lead and went to work on creating distance between himself and the second-running Chadwick. Chadwick searched high and low to try and find a way around the leader but each time Gaylord got away. Finally, Chadwick pulled even with Gaylord [Read More]
