Late charge by Larson leads to Sibley County Shootout checkers

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 1) – Jeff Larson took the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers and was joined by Luke Sathoff and Matt Speckman as the big winners money-wise at Wednesday’s Sibley County Shootout.

Larson made his move to the front with four laps left in the Arlington Raceway show, passing Sathoff and leading to the $1,500 checkers.

Sathoff took second and his position was drawn for an extra $500 bonus from Sunoco NAPA of Arlington. Speckman also received a $500.00 bonus for his 10th place finish.

Damon Murty, David Moriarty and Dean Cornelius rounded out the top five. Hard charger Shaun Bruns was sixth.

Derek Green chased Sathoff early before falling out with mechanical problems. The only caution was on lap nine for a spun car and Larson, Murty and Moriarty were all on the move following the restart.

The top four cars were all in the mix and racing side-by-side before Larson took charge.

Cory Probst prevailed in the caution-free IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock headliner and Matt Looft led the way to the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod checkers.

The midweek special was sponsored by Geib Well & Water and MS Trucking and saw just three yellows interrupting the main events.

Luinenburg gets 100th Hobby Stock win at Arlington’s season championship night

READING, Minn. – Justin Luinenburg would have liked to have gotten his career 100th IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature win before his final race of the season, but he’s happy things worked out the way they did. Luinenburg collected the landmark checkers Saturday at Arlington Raceway, when the Sept. 23 season championship program doubled as a night to honor the late Scott Schoknecht. “It was nice to get my 100th win on that night,” said Luinenburg, from Reading, Minn. “I knew Scotty pretty good so it was special to win at his memorial race.” The victory was Luinenburg’s 23rd of the season and 71st in the last three years. Season championship night at Arlington honors Schoknecht

ARLINGTON, Minn. – The Saturday, Sept. 23 season championship night program at Arlington Raceway will be in honor of Scott Schoknecht. Schoknecht, from Belle Plaine, was very instrumental in helping many drivers with his unselfish knowledge in setting up race cars. Friends have collected donations from almost 40 individuals and businesses to add to the purse for the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Both features will be $1,500 to win, $800 for second, $500 for third, $300 for fourth and $200 for fifth through 24th place. The Modified feature is a 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. After the race, four numbers will be drawn for finishing positions 5-24 and each of those spots will receive a total of $1,000. There will also be a $500 hard charger award in these two classes. Schoknecht Memorial is Saturday at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. – More than $20,000 has been added to IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and IMCA Modified purses for Saturday’s Schoknecht Memorial at Arlington Raceway. Stock Cars run for $4,000 to win and Modifieds for $2,000 to win their Sept. 29 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. There’s also extra money to be paid to drivers in other classes during the season championship program, which also features IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Money added to the purse was donated by individuals and businesses in memory of Scott Schoknecht, a friend of many in the racing community who passed away unexpectedly last summer.
