Reynolds keeps rolling with Sunoco RoC win

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 9, 2022) – The question directed to Kaden Reynolds in victory lane, clearly in jest, was whether or not he’d already done enough during this week of the 40th annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. “Not yet. Not ever,” was the answer he’d already delivered on the track and then repeated in the infield Friday night at Boone Speedway. The first-year Stock Car driver simply drove away from the rest of the Sunoco Race Fuels Race of Champions field, leading start to finish and beating runner-up and 2016 RoC winner Dustin Larson to the checkers by just over four seconds in a caution-free 12-lapper. “What a 180 from the beginning of the week,” said Reynolds, who nearly tripled a guaranteed $500 payday with another $900 earned in lap money. “I  started with a DQ and now we’ve won our last four races.” Heat, B & B All-Star Invitational and  qualifying feature victory preceded his Sunoco ROC win. “It’s been a crazy week,” said Reynolds.  Two-time defending race winner Kelly Shryock [Read More]

Oregon’s Kersey Ferrando impresses in Stock Car qualifier

By Ben Deatherage BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 8, 2022) – Stayton, Ore., racer Kersey Ferrando is looking to put her IMCA Sunoco Stock Car in the Big Dance at the 40th annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. She had an impressive run on Thursday night in her qualifier, where she finished sixth. “The first day, I struggled really bad,” said the Lady Eagle driver. “The car was super tight and I couldn’t get it to turn at all, so I was pretty upset and defeated.”    “We made a lot of changes and yesterday went a lot better,” she continued. “If it wasn’t for a couple of cautions, we could have made it into the dance last night.” Kersey’s best run of the year was a third-place finish at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore. Her husband Grey is also competing at Boone this week but in the Modified division. “I haven’t raced that much this year. Our daughter plays a lot of softball, so I’ve only done about 10 races,” she said, “but it’s [Read More]

By Ben Deatherage BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 9, 2022) – The 40th annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s has featured a new competitor in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified ranks.  Septuagenarian Pappie Leonard, from Ravenden, Ark., is finally visiting this storied event. Leonard served in the Vietnam War with the United States Marine Corps and was the recipient of five purple hearts.  “This is one of the best races that I have ever been involved in,” commented Leonard. “The track and the people here are just fantastic, and the way they manage it is just unreal.  “I rate the Super Nationals as the best race in the United State. There’s nothing I can say bad about it.” Leonard has a pair of top five finishes this season at Crowley’s Ridge Raceway. “I started the year pretty good there at my home track. I was third in points but I destroyed my car the week before I came up for the Salute To Veterans Tour,” he said. “Shaw Race Cars built me this car in [Read More]

Reynolds, Zevenbergen score Stock Car qualifying wins

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 8, 2022) – Kaden Reynolds put himself in position to win his first IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s championship. Then Elijah Zevenbergen put himself in position to win his second.  The rookie Reynolds took the momentum from winning the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational back on the Boone Speedway oval Thursday night, winning the first Stock Car qualifying feature of the evening in front of Devin Smith, Casey Woken and David Smith.  Zevenbergen hauled the mail from fourth, catching Tanner Pettitt for the point on lap eight. Following two late cautions the 2016 Super Nationals champ collected the checkers ahead of Derrick Agee, Trent Murphy and Tobie Talk. The top four finishers from each feature advance to the middle row of Saturday’s main event; 234 record-setting Stock Cars ran in heat races Thursday. Curt Lund drew the pole start and paced the first 13 laps of the first qualifier. Reynolds had raced his way to third by lap nine and to second on lap 12, then passed [Read More]

Different routes, same winning results for Hibdon, Gustin

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 8, 2022) – Kollin Hibdon and Jimmy Gustin took different routes to the same 40th annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s location Thursday night at Boone Speedway. Hibdon took the lead on the second lap and pulled away following each restart in winning the evening’s first Modified qualifying feature. 2010 champion Gustin followed Hibdon to victory lane but had to hold off Canadian ace Aaron Turnbull over the final 11 highly contested laps of the second qualifier to get there.  Top four finishers from each race advance to the middle row of the Saturday night main event. Zane DeVilbiss, the 22nd starting Kelly Shryock and 13th starting Justin O’Brien finished behind Hibdon; Aaron Johnson and Ashton Wilkey ran 3-4 in the nightcap.  Young Nevada hotshoe Hibdon drove by Tim Czarneski following an early restart and raced into lapped traffic with DeVilbiss behind at midway.  Shryock settled into third on lap 19. The last caution came with two laps left and the white flag was in the air when O’Brien took over the [Read More]

IMCA.TV interview ends with Super Nationals proposal

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 8, 2022) – No matter how he finishes on the track, Ryan McDaniel will be the biggest winner at the 40th annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. The long-time Friesen Performance Modified driver from Olivehurst, Calif., popped the question to girlfriend Kara Webb Thursday in the NAPA Fan Zone, not far from where they met at Boone Speedway eight years ago. Kara said yes, much to the delight of the world-wide audience watching on IMCA.TV.  “That took the cake,” said McDaniel, who had bought Kara’s ring in June and had it hidden away in a suitcase hoping she wouldn’t find it before they arrived in Boone. “We qualified for the All-Star race and then this, which definitely makes it my best Super Nationals.”  “We’ve made some memories.”  McDaniel attended his first Super Nationals in 1999 and has been back in Boone in September every year but two since. Kara is from Denison and was a Super Nationals regular as well, coming as a spectator for America’s Racin’ Vacation. Friends at first. [Read More]

Dedrick brings IMCA hometown connection to Boone as 1,000th competitor at 40th annual Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 9, 2022) – A driver from the town where the first IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s was held will become the 1,000th driver to compete at the record smashing 40th annual event this afternoon at Boone Speedway. Jerry Dedrick of Vinton signed in at the registration tent at 10:40 a.m. Friday, then drew 259 for his upcoming Modified heat.  “I had pre-registered and took the week off from work,” explained Dedrick, also in the middle of moving. “Then I wasn’t able to get here as early because of that as I wanted to, but I told myself I was coming no matter what.”  A three-time qualifier for the Super Nationals Late Model main event, Dedrick hasn’t had the same luck in a Modified but has always enjoyed his trips to Boone as a driver or race fan. He was surprised when informed by IMCA Director of Points and Membership Virginia Lindsey of his new place in the shared history of IMCA and Super Nationals.  “The racing part of today is going [Read More]

Rookie Reynolds shines brightest in B & B All-Star Invitational

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 8, 2022) – A young IMCA Sunoco Stock Car star shined brightest in the second annual B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational. Rookie Kaden Reynolds held off defending race winner Kelly Shryock in the fast-paced, caution-free 30-lapper, the headline race of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s Thursday night show at Boone Speedway.  “It doesn’t get much better than this,” said Reynolds, who made his charge to the front from seventh starting and led the last 16 circuits, outrunning a field of established veterans and fellow up-and-comers in The Class Too Tough To Tame. “Beating Kelly is pretty good. Beating all these guys is pretty good.” The $1,000 checkers were complemented by $400 in lap money and a chassis courtesy of race title sponsor B & B.  Shryock was close behind at the finish and quick to congratulate Reynolds post-race. Justin Luinenburg, pole starter Kyle Vanover and Mike Mullen completed the top five.  Vanover looked strong at the onset with Reynolds knocking on the door of the second-running Mullen by [Read More]

Late exit doesn’t deter Nelson

By Ben Deatherage BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 8, 2022) – Wednesday’s first IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s qualifying feature  for Modifieds was a heartbreaker for Jordy Nelson. The Marysville, Kan., veteran led the first 10 laps, then finished 24th after running in a transfer spot until late in the race.  He would try again on Thursday in the hope of making the Championship Night dance. Still, “It’s been a fun week so far,” said Nelson. “We haven’t drawn very good all week. Last night we were in a spot to get into the show but we had the left rear tire go down with seven to go.” He’s a three-time qualifier at Boone Speedway, with a career best finish of 18th in 2004. “We’ve been pretty quick all this year,” he said. “We had some DNFs that didn’t help us in points. We have picked up some two wins at Beatrice, which has been good.”

Superman Winebarger punches ticket to Stock Car dance

Ben Deatherage BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 8, 2022) – One down, one to go. On Wednesday night at Boone Speedway, Collen Winebarger became the first Oregon driver to qualify for the Stock Car Big Dance at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s.  The Corbett racer is pulling double duty at this year’s event and next looks to qualify for the Modified finale on Saturday night.  “Our goal here always starts pretty simple,” Winebarger commented. “You’ve got to get into the race first. You hope that you hit draws good, have a good car, have good speed, get into the race and reevaluate. Getting the Stock Car in was cool. Now we need to work on the Modified.”  Winebarger qualified for last year’s Modified dance and finished 21st. He was also 12th in the B & B Racing Chassis Stock Car All-Star Invitational. Although his 2022 has seen a limited amount of runs, Collen has picked up four numerous wins.   Modified triumphs have come at Sunset Speedway Park in Banks, Ore., Lebanon, Ore.’s Willamette Speedway, [Read More]
