Jones wins fifth Tri-City feature

By Roger Williams AUBURN, Mich. (July 27) – Nate Jones won his fifth IMCA Modified feature of the season at Tri-City Motor Speedway on Friday, beating Matt Szecsodi to the checkers on autograph night. The Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified division took to the track for a 20-lap main event and Todd Matheson and Kevin McFarland brought the field of 20 to the green with Matheson immediately jumping to the front. Matheson looked as if he was going to run away with the win until an issue with his car caused him to suddenly spin in turn four with just four laps remaining. That spin also ended the night for third-running Chris Cohoon as he was unable to avoid Matheson. With Matheson out, Jones was handed the lead and held off Szecsodi for his fifth feature win of the year. Chad Wernette, Gavin Hunyady and Chaz Pray wrapped up the remaining top five positions at the finish.

GoFundMe started for injured TCMS employee

AUBURN, Mich. – On Friday, June 22, a member of the Tri-City Motor Speedway safety crew was injured during a rain delay in the regular Friday night race show. After a brief, unexpected rain shower, race officials announced a rain delay until the track conditions could be brought back to a safe racing condition. It was during this process where a worker, Pete Badgero, was injured after falling off the tractor he was driving. The safety crew saw this happen and immediately tended to Badgero with emergency medical attention. With the tractor still in gear, it continued across the track, which is where a video circulating the Internet picks up the event. This process of prepping the track is not very exciting so many people in the stands never saw Badgero fall. Their attention only turned when the suddenly unmanned tractor careened across the track into the retaining wall. Laughter can be heard on the video as track staff attempted to chase down the rouge tractor. The crowd was not aware of the injury that [Read More]

Ward gets career fourth Greased Pig win

By Roger Williams AUBURN, Mich. (June 15) – The first race in the new dirt track era of Tri-City Motor Speedway took place in mid-June back in 2011. Each year, Tri-City commemorates the occasion with the annual Greased Pig special for the IMCA Modifieds. On Friday night, A.J. Ward won the event for the fourth time and earned $2,018. Chris Cohoon started on the pole and led the field to green flag but his night ended early because of mechanical problems. With Cohoon out, the lead was handed to Matt Szecsodi, who took advantage of a long green flag run and began to pull away from the field. However, with 31 laps down and 10 to go, a caution bunched up the field and put the ninth starting Ward and defending track champion Kody Johnson on Szecsodi’s rear bumper. Ward fought Szecsodi using the bottom groove as the two tussled over the final seven circuits. The two-time defending Dirt Works Eastern Region champion, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, was finally able to [Read More]

Szecsodi sizzles at Tri-City

AUBURN, Mich. (June 8) – Matt Szecsodi made his second visit of the season to victory lane at Tri-City Motor Speedway after taking over the lead of the Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified feature on the 10th lap. The start of the feature was dominated by Craig Vance as he drove the bottom line to pace the field.  At lap nine, it was Chad Wernette who fought his way from mid -pack to lead. His turn up front would only last a lap as Szecsodi took over the lead. Nate Jones also fought his way through the field and got to second.  But without the help of any caution flags, Szecsodi’s lead was too big to overcome. Szecsodi parked in victory lane with his second feature win of 2018.  Jones grabbed his third runner-up finish of the season. Jones was followed by Wernette, Drasco, Ark., driver Heath Grizzle, and 19th starting Chris Cohoon. Next Friday night, June 15 is the eighth anniversary of Tri-City’s first dirt race and features the Greased Pig 8.0 [Read More]
