Wood earns first Oil Capital victory at Southern Oklahoma

By John Rittenoure  ARDMORE, Okla. (June 26) – With five top five and nine top 10 finishes coming into Saturday’s AmeriFlex/Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car event at Southern Oklahoma Speedway, Danny Wood has been on the verge of getting his first victory.   The wait is over. Wood started on the pole and went the distance to win his first career series feature at Ardmore.   While Wood was in firm command of the top spot, there was plenty of driver movement behind him. Joe Bob Lee started 10th and worked his way through the field to second but was six seconds behind Wood at the finish. Steven Shebester moved from fifth to third while Joe Wood Jr. came from seventh to fourth. Smith sails to URSS vs. OCRS Showdown honors

PARK CITY, Kan. (May 22) – Oklahoma veteran Danny Smith came away with the $1,000 victory when the Drive to Zero United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford combined forces with the Oil Capital Racing Series for a dual sanctioned event at 81 Speedway. Smith started outside the front row in the 25-lapper and went the distance to win over URSS regular Jordan Knight.  Another veteran campaigner, Danny Wood, raced to a third place finish while Jeremy Huish and Kyler Johnson finished fourth and fifth, respectively.  A total of 35 competitors entered competition. Sewell becomes first Oil Capital repeat winner

(May 8) – Alex Sewell took the early lead away from pole sitter Whit Gastineau and became the season’s first repeat AmeriFlex/Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature winner Saturday at Salina Highbanks Speedway.   The 2018 series champion led most of the way around the high banked 3/8’s mile oval while a battle raged behind him for second. Casey Wills, Gastineau, Ty Williams were battling before a red flag waved after 11 laps.  That changed the complexion of the race. Steven Shebester worked his way into second with Gastineau holding on to third. Jase Randolph finished fourth and Jake Martens ended up where he started with fifth place.   Feature results – 1. Salina Highbanks to host Oil Capital IMCA RaceSaver Sprints on Saturday

By John Rittenoure PRYOR CREEK, Okla. (May 4, 2021) – After two rainouts the AmeriFlex /Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars will resume points competition Saturday at Salina Highbanks Speedway.  Pit gates open at 3 p.m. Grandstand gates at 5. Drivers draw from 4:45-5:45 p.m. and the drivers’ meeting is at 6 p.m.. Hot are at laps 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. Feature winners through the first five series events of the season include Johnny Kent, Joe Bob Lee, Noah Harris, Alex Sewell and Steven Shebester.

Oil Capital Caney Valley race postponed

By John Rittenoure CANEY, Kan. (April 23) – Due to a forecast of strong to severe weather this evening, Friday night’s AmeriFlex/Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car event at Caney Valley Speedway has been postponed. The event will be rescheduled for later this summer.  Next up for the series is the Saturday, May 8 show at Salina Highbanks.

Oil Capital show at Outlaw is rained out

By John Rittenoure TULSA, Okla. (April 16) – Friday night’s AmeriFlex/Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car show at Outlaw Motor Speedway is cancelled due to overnight rain that is forecast to continue all day Friday. The race has not been re-scheduled.   Next Friday’s (April 23) race at Tulsa Speedway has been moved to Caney Valley Speedway. Tulsa Speedway is still under construction and does not expect to open until mid-May.

Free grandstand admission for Friday Oil Capital show at Outlaw Motor Speedway

By John Rittenoure TULSA, Okla. – Friday night will be a night to remember for AmeriFlex Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car fans. Outlaw Motor Speedway will host a complete night of racing and grandstand admission free.   The April 16 feature winner will earn $1,000 with a $250 minimum paid to start. Heat race winners will earn $100.  Five different winners, among them Joe Bob Lee, Johnny Kent, 2018 champion Alex Sewell, Noah Harris and Steven Shebester, have produced a balanced field coming into Friday night’s show.  Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the draw ends at 6:30 p.m. The drivers’ meeting is at 6:45 p.m., hot laps are at 7:30 p.m. and racing starts at 8 p.m. Pit passes are $35.

Five races, five different winners: Shebester takes Oil Capital checkers at Lawton

By John Rittenoure  LAWTON, Okla. (March 27) – Steven Shebester has run his share of laps around the Lawton Speedway. However, Saturday was his first time to race there with the AmeriFlex/Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, and it turned out to be a night to remember.  Shebester worked his way from the sixth starting position to win his first career race with the series and become the fifth different winner in as many 2021 races after passing polesitter Whit Gastineau for the win.  Finishing behind Gastineau was 2018 champion Alex Sewell, three-time champion Zach Chappell was fourth and opening weekend winner Joe Bob Lee rounded out the top five. Oil Capital Racing Series returns to Lawton Speedway on Saturday

(March 22) – After four nights of racing, the AmeriFlex/Oil Capital Racing Series for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars travels southwest to Lawton Speedway on Saturday for the first time since 2017.  A total of 61 competitors have raced with the AmeriFlex/OCRS series to date this season and four different drivers have visited victory lane. In 2017, the AmeriFlex/OCRS visited Lawton three times and past champion Alex Sewell won twice, then finished second behind Andrew Deal.   Racing gets underway at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Sewell wins on final night of Creek County Speedway Spring Fling

By John Rittenoure KELLYVILLE, Okla. (March 20) – Alex Sewell became the fourth different AmeriFlex/Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car winner in four nights Saturday to close out the Spring Fling at Creek County Speedway. The 2018 series champion charged his way through the field from the eighth place starting position to win his 13th OCRS career feature, moving him into a third place tie with Sean McClelland on the career win list.   Jase Randolph drove off the pole into the early lead while Sewell started his run through the field. In the final laps, Sewell was able to challenge Randolph and found a way to pass him for the victory.  Randolph held on to second while current AmeriFlex/OCRS points leader Casey Wills finished third. Friday winner Noah Harris managed a fourth place finish, advancing six positions, and 2014 non-wing champion Danny Smith rounded out the top five.  Feature results – 1. Alex Sewell; 2.
