Blume scores big win at Maquoketa Speedway

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (July 9, 2022) – Saturday saw perfect weather conditions for an action-packed night of racing at the Maquoketa Speedway. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature saw Austin Blume score his first win of the 2022 season at Maquoketa. Blume took off from his outside front row start and sailed on to the win by leading flag to flag. Blume took the win ahead of Jaden Fryer and last week’s feature winner, Matt Werner. A strong field of 22 IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars took the green flag for their 15-lap feature. Chase Zaruba also joined the list of first time winners in 2022. Zaruba took the win ahead of 12th starter Tom Schmitt with Jerry Miles advancing from the fifth row to take third. The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods provided another action-packed race as drivers ran three- and four-wide throughout their main event. Werner scores first Maquoketa IMCA Modified win

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (July 2, 2022) – Racing returned to the Jackson County Fairgrounds Maquoketa Speedway on Saturday following a week off due to a rainout. A great field of nearly 90 race teams packed the infield on a beautiful Saturday night for racing.  The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature headlined the night of racing action that saw the final checkered flag of the night wave at 9:05 p.m. The 20-lap feature went caution free and saw Geneseo, Ill., driver Matt Werner score his first win at the ¼-mile Maquoketa Speedway. The track was wide and smooth and very racy with drivers using several lines which provided great racing all night. Werner advanced from a third row start and took the lead from early pace setter Austin Blume and went on to score the win. Current, Roth among winners at Maquoketa Speedway

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 18, 2022) – Saturday, June 18th provided perfect weather for the racing action at Maquoketa Speedway. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds 20-lap feature win went to fourth row outside starter Tim Current. Current wheeled his #12T to the front quickly taking the lead from Steve Johnson on lap number four. Current’s teammate Ryan Duhme ran second on Saturday night ahead of Travis Denning.  A strong field of Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods ran a caution-free 15 lap main event on Saturday night. Jason Roth took first place honors by racing to the win ahead of Matt Mayo from Bakersfield, California. Front row starter Dakota Cole crossed under the checkers in third.  The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars provided a very entertaining feature. Joe Zrostlik led the feature until a late race caution set up a two lap dash to the finish. Denning, Ellithorpe, score repeat wins at Maquoketa

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 11, 2022) – The Maquoketa Speedway dodged the predicted wet weather on Saturday night and held a fast, action-packed night of racing on the very smooth, fast ¼-mile dirt oval.  The headliner of the night was the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature that went 20 laps caution-free. Travis Denning was able to get past early leader Spencer Diercks and move into the lead just before lap 10 and went on to record his third win at the Maquoketa Speedway in 2022. Diercks held off the 2021 track champion Jeff Larson at the checkers.  Jacob Ellithorpe had his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car back in fine form on Saturday night. Ellithorpe had spent countless hours in the garage making repairs following an incident that caused severe damage to the drive train in his no. 72 Stock car. Duhme tops IMCA Modified main at Maquoketa

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 28, 2022) – Ryan Duhme scored the 20-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature victory Saturday at Maquoketa Speedway, getting out front early and taking the checkers over last week’s winner Travis Denning. The win was Duhme’s second win in 2022 at the Maquoketa Speedway. Denning finished second ahead of Mitch Morris. Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod racing saw Shane Paris score his third win in a row at Maquoketa by topping the 15-lap feature. Paris started eighth and made his way to the front by passing Brandon Jewel for the lead. Paris went on to score the win ahead of Jarrett Franzen and Jacob Arp. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars feature went to a first-time winner in 2022 at the Maquoketa Speedway. Scooter Dulin took a hard-fought win holding off Brandon Vorbeck for the win. Richard Nelson ran third. Randy LaMar turned last week’s frustration around and scored the win in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. 111 race teams pack Maquoketa Speedway

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 21, 2022) – Saturday night saw a season-high 111 race teams take part in an action packed night of racing on the Jackson County Fairgrounds’ ¼-mile dirt Maquoketa Speedway.   The headliner of the night was the 20 lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event, a race that went non-stop with Travis Denning capturing his second feature win of the young season. Denning battled with Spencer Diercks for several laps before breaking away to score the win with a comfortable margin. Diercks ran a strong second in getting to the checkers ahead of the previous week’s feature winner Ryan Duhme.  The action-packed IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win went to David Brandies. Kyle and Lane Vohringer started on the front row making for an all-Maquoketa front row. Lane Vohringer’s lead was short lived as Tim Bader took over the point but the ninth-starting Brandies emerged from a group of frontrunners and went on to score the win over a strong running Dustin Vis. Duhme, Paris join winners’ list at Maquoketa

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 14, 2022) – Mother Nature provided near perfect weather conditions for night number two of the 2022 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season at Maquoketa Speedway. A great crowd was in attendance to watch an action packed night of racing that saw the final checkered flag of the evening wave at 9 p.m.   The headliner of the night was the 20-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature. The green flag waved with veteran racers Mike Garland and Steve Johnson sitting on the front row. The lead pack swelled to five cars before Ryan Duhme, starting fifth, was able to break out of the pack to take control. Another veteran Maquoketa driver, Ray Cox, provided pressure but Duhme was able to race to the checkers less than a car length ahead of Cox with last week’s feature winner Travis Denning taking third.   The closest finish of the night was in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. Racing season gets the green flag at Maquoketa Speedway

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 7, 2022) – The IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season at Maquoketa Speedway got underway on Saturday night following three consecutive postponements due to the wet weather in Eastern Iowa. Drivers and fans alike responded in a big way by attending the opening night races that saw the final checkered flag of the night wave at 9:40 p.m.  The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified 20-lap feature was the headliner of the night and action was hotly contested on the very racy track. Travis Denning shot into the lead and was not to be denied the opening night victory as he led flag to flag. The feature saw one yellow flag wave early on lap two and then went the final 18 laps non-stop. Tim Current advanced from his fourth row start and closed on the race leader several times before settling for second. First scoring job leads Feller to Maquoketa promoter’s post

MAQUOKETA, Iowa – Score a career highlight this season for Kevin Feller. Feller returns to his hometown Maquoketa Speedway to promote Saturday night racing, with four IMCA divisions on regular weekly programs and high hopes of introducing a legion of young fans to the sport.  “I haven’t been this fired up about the new race season in a long time. If it wasn’t for this little track, I wouldn’t be where I am,” said Feller, who scored his first race at Maquoketa in 1975 and has since kept track of laps and lineups at another 52 tracks nationwide. “This is a very, very spe­cial place for me.” “I am very driven on getting a young crowd to the track. Soppe wins number 100 plus track title at Maquoketa

By Rob Hinckley MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Aug. 24) – Again, no matter the obstacle, Tyler Soppe cranked the steering wheel one way and then back the other while at full speed.  It was no surprise he was at the front of the 15-lap B&D Pit Stop IMCA Northern SportMod Season Championship feature Saturday evening at Maquoketa Speedway.  Soppe had clinched the track championship before the green flag ever flew.  “This is what we’re here for and the championship tops it off,” Soppe said. ““We like the track and what Nick (Promoter McCrady) has done with it. We’ll be back next year.”  Soppe’s victory was the ninth at Maquoketa and 26th overall in 2019.
