Miles scores first career win at Maquoketa

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (July 22, 2023) – Following a week of no racing as the Jackson County Fairgrounds hosted a large dog competition show the racing action returned on Saturday night with 121 teams putting on an exciting show as the races were hurried along to beat the approaching rain storm.

It is always special to see a driver win his first-ever main event and on Saturday night that was the case in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.

Jordan Miles, one of the many racing Miles brothers and one of three Miles’ that were racing Saturday night scored his first of what will be many feature wins. Miles held off the one of the best in Hobby Stock racing, Randy LaMar in scoring the win.

The 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature saw veteran driver Andy Nezworski drive his no. 7 very patiently to the front from his eighth position start and overtake Jaden Fryer late in the main to go on and score the win. Fryer had a strong run in taking second ahead of Steve Johnson. 

Charlie Mohr is riding a hot streak at Maquoketa in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified division. Mohr was the third leader in the feature but he was out front when the checkers flew taking the 20-lap win ahead of Jeff Larson and Ryan Duhme. 

Larson scored a win of his own by taking the checkers in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Jacob Ellithorpe threw a slider at Larson on the final lap but Larson was able to cross under Ellithorpe for the win. Jerry Miles was also able to get by Ellithorpe, who finished third. 

A strong field of Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods put on their usual action-packed feature with three- and four-wide racing throughout the main event. Jason Roth brought his no. 31 SportMod to Maquoketa and finished up the night with a trip to Oly’s Garage Victory Lane. Roth scored the win ahead of Levi Gaunt and Tyler Soppe. 

The Jackson County Fair will be in full swing this week and Stock Car Racing will take center stage at the Fair on Wednesday, July 26, getting underway at 6:30 p.m.

Duhme dominates IMCA Modifieds at Maquoketa

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 27, 2023) – The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature belonged to Ryan Duhme Saturday night at Maquoketa Speedway. Duhme took over the top spot from Brandon Jewell and went on to record the 20-lap feature win. Jason Schueller followed Jewell across the finish line in third.  Jerry Miles drove to the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win, taking over the top spot following an incident on the 10th lap that saw the two front runners sail off of turn two and forced to restart from the rear. Miles took over the race lead and took the checkers ahead of Justin Kay and Jacob Ellithorpe.  The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods continue to provide thrilling racing at the Maquoketa Speedway. 111 race teams pack Maquoketa Speedway

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 21, 2022) – Saturday night saw a season-high 111 race teams take part in an action packed night of racing on the Jackson County Fairgrounds’ ¼-mile dirt Maquoketa Speedway.   The headliner of the night was the 20 lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event, a race that went non-stop with Travis Denning capturing his second feature win of the young season. Denning battled with Spencer Diercks for several laps before breaking away to score the win with a comfortable margin. Diercks ran a strong second in getting to the checkers ahead of the previous week’s feature winner Ryan Duhme.  The action-packed IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win went to David Brandies. Kyle and Lane Vohringer started on the front row making for an all-Maquoketa front row. Maquoketa Speedway falls to severe storm threats

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (April 27, 2024) – The 2024 Maquoketa Speedway season opener scheduled for April 27 was postponed due to impending severe weather slated to move into the Jackson County area late on Saturday afternoon.  Maquoketa Speedway will now be slated to see the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season opener on Saturday, May 4. IMCA Sunoco Late Models will headline the racing program which will also include Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Also in action will be the 4 Cylinders and the INEX Legend Cars.  Maquoketa Speedway will see hot laps get underway at 6 p.m. with racing to follow on Saturday.
