Lemke, Larson, Franzen, LaMar are All Star Night winners

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (April 13, 2024) – The Darkside Promotions All Star Night welcomed over 100 race cars on a warm Mid-April evening on Saturday night. The race hungry fans were treated to an exciting night of racing. 

Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds saw Illinois un-retired driver Scotte Lemke pick up the win. Lemke was a fixture at Tri-State tracks in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s before sitting out for 16 years. The veteran showed he still is to be reckoned with as he led all 30 laps in route to the win.

Jeff Larson applied pressure in the early going and it appeared the friends were going to provide a thrilling race but Larson was sidelined with tire failure as the race passed midway. Dan Roedl and Drew Janssen applied the heat to Lemke in the latter half of the main. At the checkers it was Lemke scoring the win ahead of Roedl and Janssen. 

Larson was given the opportunity to drive Lee Kinsella’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and gave the 21 car a ride.

Gage Neal led early from the pole before Larson and Jacob Ellithorpe made it a three-car battle for the lead. Also advancing to join the lead pack was ninth starting Rod Snellenberger.

Very late in the race the leaders came on lapped traffic and Ellithorpe was leading but got pinched behind slower traffic, allowing Larson to take the top spot and go on to record the win. Snellenberger nipped Ellithorpe for second at the line. 

A strong field of Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods was on hand. Shane Paris drew the pole and appeared to be the man to beat but hometowner Jarrett Franzen had other ideas.

Franzen wrestled the lead away from Paris and go on to score the 20-lap feature win ahead of third row starter Ryan Walker. Paris crossed the finish line in third. 

Veteran Randy LaMar scored the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature win. Lamar started 10th on the grid but worked to the front quickly taking the lead from Daniel Wauters. LaMar led a pack of cars to the finish line with Scott Wetter finishing second just ahead of Jordan Miles. 

Saturday, April 20th will be the 2024 season opener at Maquoketa Speedway as the drivers will earn their valuable IMCA track points. IMCA Sunoco Late Models will make their season debut. Hot laps will take to the quick quarter mile at 6 p.m. with racing to follow.

Denning, Ellithorpe, score repeat wins at Maquoketa

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 11, 2022) – The Maquoketa Speedway dodged the predicted wet weather on Saturday night and held a fast, action-packed night of racing on the very smooth, fast ¼-mile dirt oval.  The headliner of the night was the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature that went 20 laps caution-free. Travis Denning was able to get past early leader Spencer Diercks and move into the lead just before lap 10 and went on to record his third win at the Maquoketa Speedway in 2022. Diercks held off the 2021 track champion Jeff Larson at the checkers.  Jacob Ellithorpe had his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car back in fine form on Saturday night. Ellithorpe had spent countless hours in the garage making repairs following an incident that caused severe damage to the drive train in his no. 72 Stock car. Inaugural Gil Short Memorial wraps up Maquoketa Speedway season

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Sept. 23-24, 2022) – The 2022 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season at Maquoketa Speedway came to a close with two big nights of racing Friday and Saturday.  The Friday night racing program was headlined by the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds. The 25-lap feature saw Spencer Diercks race to the front from his fourth starting position and go on to score a very impressive $1,200 win.  Diercks took the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible win ahead of Kelly Shryock and Jason Schueller. The Modified feature saw a star studded field of 21 drivers take the initial green flag.   Twenty-one Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods took the green flag in their main event. Former national champion Tyler Soppe set sail on the top side and scored the win ahead of Levi Laymon and Jarrett Franzen.   The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event was won by Daniel Wauters. Garnhart speeds to IMCA Modified checkers at Maquoketa 

By Rob Hinckley MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 19) – Bryce Garnhart kept rolling Saturday night at Maquoketa Speedway, speeding to the QCJeeps.com IMCA Modified 35-lap special feature win and cashing the $1,000 check that went with it. The victory was Garnhart’s fourth straight to start the 2018 season at the Jackson County Fairgrounds speed plant. The new Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier held off a hard charging Ray Cox Jr., who was racing the top groove from deep in the field. “I knew he was coming,” Garnhart said. “I searched around there at one point with lapped traffic coming. I was like ‘the top ain’t too bad so I might run up there.’ It’s hard to give up the bottom when you got the lead.” Garnhart won his heat, picked number one on the redraw and led every lap.
