MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 24, 2023) – Amhof Trucking of Eldridge hosted on-track action Saturday night at Maquoketa Speedway. The racing took place under the threat of an approaching storm so the program was moved along as quickly as possible.
The IMCA Sunoco Late Models once again provided fans with a thrilling finish. As the winds began to whip around the fairgrounds, the Late Models were battling for position all the way through their 16-car field.
Race leader Dalton Simonsen took the white flag with what appeared to be a good enough lead that would allow him to score the win.
Bryce Garnhart, however, had different ideas as he took his number 3 ride to the inside of Simonsen as the two raced down the back chute, setting up a charge to the finish off turn four which would net a feature win for Garnhart by less than two feet.
Following Simonsen across the finish line were CJ Horn and early leader Scott Olson, who took fourth.
The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods saw a strong field of drivers take the green for their 15-lap feature. Ben Chapman drove his 1JR to another win after working to the front from his sixth position start.
Chapman took over the top spot from early race leader Kevin Rasdon on lap five and went on to record the win ahead of Rayce Mullen and Scott Williams.
The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars provided plenty of fireworks with the lead changing several times and the leaders near the midway point of the race both being DQ’d for questionable driving and extra contact during a yellow flag situation.
On the restart, Tanner Allen took control and went on to score his first Maquoketa Speedway win in a Stock Car. Allen drove a flawless race in taking the win ahead of Jerry Miles and Chase Zaruba.
Number 4 cars again dominated the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature with the top four positions going to drivers who all race the number 4.
At the checkers it was Daniel Wauters picking up another win in the 4K. Wauters drove the high line to perfection in scoring the win ahead of Jordan Miles in the 4, Randy LaMar in the 4R and Jared Miles in the 4J.
The skies opened up and put an end to the race program before the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds were able to race their feature. Saturday, July 1 will feature a full program of racing plus the makeup feature for the Modifieds, meaning they will run double features.
Hot laps are slated to get underway at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.
