Braathun takes first-ever Boone Speedway win

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (June 5) – Jon Braathun became a first-time Boone Speedway winner in the first Saturday night feature at Iowa’s Action Track. The IMCA STARS Mod Lite 15-lap feature was led from start to finish by Story City’s Braathun. Joel Huggins made it interesting at the finish when his slide under the leader out of the final corner fell just short and he had to settle for second. Third went to 10th place starter Mike Kennedy. It was another exciting IMCA Modified 20-lap feature that had the crowd cheering. Dylan Thornton grabbed the lead from Tim Love on lap 10 but then had to fend off the advances of the rapidly advancing Jimmy Gustin, Jake McBirnie, and Nick Roberts, who were locked into an intense battle for second. That battle resulted in some contact being made between McBirnie and Roberts which sent McBirnie out of the race while Roberts able to gather it back in and continue on. 36 IMCA Stock Car drivers eligible to qualify, two more guaranteed B & B Chassis All-Star starts

VINTON, Iowa – Thirty-six drivers are eligible to qualify for, and two are guaranteed starting spots in the inaugural B & B Chassis All-Star race for Stock Cars at the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Winners of sanctioned events paying $750 or more, plus 2020 regional and state champions are eligible to qualify; winners of sanctioned events paying $5,000 or more, now including Zane DeVilbiss and Dallon Murty, are guaranteed starting spots in the All-Star feature field. It’s Roberts in a thriller at Boone, David Smith prevails in brotherly battle

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 29) – The racers came out in full force for Saturday night racing at the Boone Speedway with 169 cars packing the pits and all IMCA regular classes would find first time winners on the season. The IMCA STARS Mod Lites were in town for a national event series race, as part of the Corn Belt Clash. It was a thrilling finish to the 20-lap IMCA Modified feature that saw amazing crisscross moves during the race. Nick Roberts started sixth and had the top spot by lap four, content to let the pack behind sort itself out. Tim Ward came from 12th starting into second and began applying pressure quickly, and Kyle Brown was also in the picture. Berry among first-time winners at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 22) – It was another weekly racing series night Saturday at the Boone Speedway, with 146 cars checking into the pits. The defending IMCA Modified national champion, Tom Berry Jr., was in the house tonight, wheeling a brand new car. He hadn’t lost a step from his successful season last year either, as he sailed home to another win. He had to fight around early race leader Russ Dickerson, taking command just before the halfway mark of the event, and then distanced himself from the pack as the checkers flew. It was a hard fought battle behind Berry, with Nick Roberts taking second over 14th place starter Cory Sauerman, Joel Bushore and Dickerson. Devin Smith put another notch on his winner’s belt by taking the checkers in the 20-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main. Three Memorial Weekend Cornbelt Clash dates for IMCA STARS Mod Lites

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Memorial Weekend Cornbelt Clash dates take IMCA STARS Mod Lites to Marshalltown Speedway, Boone Speedway and Stuart Speedway for $500 to win features each night. A minimum of $100 will be paid to start each May 28, 29 and 30 feature with a $30 entry fee each night. Marshalltown opens the gates at 5:15 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Gates at Boone open at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday racing starts at 6 p.m. and on Sunday, gates at Stuart open at 5 p.m. and racing follows 7 p.m. hot laps. The Yoshimura bonus will be paid on Sunday, with $250 going to the winner, $150 to the runner-up and $100 to the third place driver. The driver racing all three nights and finishing with the top point total also takes home $100 in cash. Other awards will be given by Hoosier Tire and Rod End Supply. All-Star qualifications are announced for Stock Cars

BOONE, Iowa – A division that’s seen recent record numbers at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s sees its All-Stars compete in an invitational of their own this September at Boone Speedway. IMCA officials have announced that an All-Star race for Stock Cars will be new to the 39th annual event and sponsored by B & B Racing Chassis. In addition to his or her share of the purse, which is to be announced, the winner of the inaugural event receives a bare powder coated chassis valued at $4,800. 2020 regional and state champions are eligible to compete in qualifying as are drivers who won sanctioned events that paid $750 or more and were held following last year’s Super Nationals. Gilman, Jaennette park in victory lane at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 15) – Two drivers returned to victory lane after several years’ absence, one driver made his first-ever appearance on the winner’s stage at the track and two drivers took repeat wins Saturday at Boone Speedway. Chase Rudolf and Josh Gilman led the IMCA Modified field to green, with Gilman gaining the upper hand and taking command. Gilman was challenged several times by Andy Tiernan but it was to no avail as Gilman went on to take the checkers in the caution-free contest. This was Gilman’s first weekly win since 2011 at Boone. Tiernan had to be content with second place, Rudolf finished third, Clint Wendel was fourth, and Jimmy Gustin raced from 10th starting to take fifth. IMCA Modified, Stock Car All-Star ballot berths at stake Saturday at Boone Speedway

BOONE, Iowa – IMCA Modifieds race for $3,000 to win and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for $1,000 to win, with All-Star Invitational ballot berths at stake for both divisions this Saturday at Boone Speedway. The May 1 Hawkeye 100 program also features a $1,000 feature for Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Pit passes are $45 and adult admission to the grandstand is $40. It’s McBirnie by a nose in thrilling IMCA Modified win at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (April 24) – It was weekly racing series number three at the Boone Speedway on Saturday night with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and IMCA STARS Mod Lites in competition. The 25-lap Modified feature was a spectacular event. D & E Outside Services had put up $3,000 to a driver opting to start at the tail of the feature and win. Jet Racing threw in an additional $500 making for a possible $3,500 payday. Five drivers went to the rear, Jimmy Gustin, Tim Ward, Ricky Thornton Jr., Joel Bushore, and Paul Nagel. IMCA car count at 171 for opening night at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (April 10) – Boone Speedway held its season points opener on Saturday night as 171 IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, and for the first time running under the IMCA banner, the IMCA STARS Mod Lites all began their quest for track championships. The IMCA STARS Mod Lites kicked off feature racing with their inaugural IMCA sanctioned 15-lap main event. Jon Braathun led the opening laps, only to have Cody Yaw take over the top spot by lap four. Yaw’s lead would end just four laps later when he and a lap car collided, bringing out a yellow. Second running Joel Huggins inherited the lead for the restart, and would go on to be in command the remaining laps and take the checkers ahead of Josh May. Tenth place starter Randy Bryan crossed the line in third. However, Huggins was disqualified after a post-race inspection found his body not meeting the spec requirements.
