Scheffler scores at SpeedZone

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Aug. 15) – The first challenge on Saturday night at Oshkosh SpeedZone was to pare the 34-car Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified field to 20 for the main event. Adam Reed made the front row and led the first two laps before Taylor Scheffler took the top sot away and started to pull away. A lap five caution quickly regrouped the field but Scheffler again pulled away, leaving the race for second. Josh Zdroik ended a five-lap battle with Reed, moving into second on lap nine before the final caution for a tire on the track slowed the race on lap 10. Scheffler had the field on his rear bumper, but again, was able to pull away on the restart. Zdroik, Tim Robbiins, Mike Klenz, Eddie Muenster and point leader, Sean Jerovetz were in line. Chevy motors to Eagle Modified feature win

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 16) – Chevy Hadan motored to his first Kaplan University IMCA Modified victory of the season at Eagle Raceway on Saturday. He passed Jared Hoefelman for the lead with three laps left, then beat Hoefelman and Mike Densberger to the checkers. “I usually run the bottom. I was trying to be patient and stay there, but when I saw Mike I knew I had to do something else,” he said. “The bottom wasn’t working any more, so I headed up top and moved to the front.” Adam Guillon became a first-time Mud In America Racesaver IMCA Sprint Car feature winner. “I got to thinking before the race started, so I started searching for something special just the right spot to run,” he said. “I tried running high into one on a caution but it was rough. Ackerman dominates for fourth IMCA Late Model win at Independence

By Ryan Clark INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (Aug. 16) – IMCA Late Model driver Darren Ackerman has been known to excel on a dry slick race track. He proved it once again Saturday night at Independence Motor Speedway. After taking the lead on the ninth circuit, Ackerman pulled away from the pack to win by half of a lap in the caution-free 25-lap feature. Polesitter Rory Metcalf took the lead at the drop of the green and paced the field while Ackerman worked from a fifth row starting spot. Ackerman made his way into the top five on lap four and then worked the low side into second on lap seven. He raced past Metcalf two laps later on his way to victory ahead of Jon Passick. With the win, Ackerman took over the points lead heading into next Saturday’s Budweiser Season Championships. Big Money triumph for “Big Money”

By Tom Wagner LUXEMBURG, Wis. (Aug. 15) – Jay Matthias earned the moniker “Big Money” several years ago after a succession of wins in high paying events. With $1,000 up for grabs, “Big Money” was back. Matthias held off Johnny Whitman at the wire to win his first IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature of the season Friday night, highlighting action at the annual Corey Jonet Memorial at Luxemburg Speedway. Matthias pounced early in the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier, assuming command of the point from Rob Charapata on the third lap. After an early caution, Matthias eased away to what appeared to be a comfortable margin. Todd Dart and Whitman sorted out from the pack as contenders at the race’s midpoint with Dart moving into the runner-up spot on the 13th lap. Hulin wins race to Marshalltown Modified checkers

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug. 15) – Racer Hulin was the winner in the Friday nightcap at Marshalltown Speedway. Andrew Kinser led the first lap od the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main after Joel Bushore jumped the cushion in turns three and four. On lap two, Kinser, Bushore and Jake Strayer went three wide for the lead. Strayer took the lead and pulled away only to see the caution come out three times for debris. After the final caution on lap 12, Hulin grabbed the lead away the next time around and went on to take the win. Strayer was second, Ronn Lauritzen was third, Adam Larson was fourth and Tyler Droste was fifth. The only thing slowing Damon Murty from another IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers was lapped traffic. Clint Luellen found the outside to his liking as he beat Shawn Ritter on the last lap to take the Big Eight Tyre Center IMCA Northern SportMod win. Austin Luellen scored his eighth local IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock win of the season.

Behning tops Davenport IMCA Late Model main

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (Aug. 15) – Brunson Behning took advantage of a timely caution flag and scored his first Late Model victory at Davenport Speedway on Friday. Behning took the lead of the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature from Chuck Hanna on lap four. On lap nine, Ray Guss Jr. got by Behning, but a caution flag erased the pass for the lead. On the restart, Brunson got away to a comfortable lead that he turned into a victory. Justin Kay made a late -ace charge passing both Guss and Mike Murphy Jr. to finish second. Guss came home third, followed by Murphy and Joe Zrostlik. Doug Crampton was the winner in an exciting Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified main. Rich Smith jumped out to the early lead of the 20-lap race. Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational to feature first Utah, Washington drivers

BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 6) – The second round of voting for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational has produced the first-ever race starters from Utah and Washington. Chase Hansen of Myton, Utah, and Joe German of Aberdeen, Wash., were among the 13 drivers added to the field for the Friday, Sept. 5 All-Star race, during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Three drivers from each of the five IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified regions were elected to start that event during the first round of voting; the next 13 All-Stars were elected at-large from among the next 50 drivers in vote totals in balloting that ended on Tuesday. Boone County to host Shane Thome Modified Mania on Aug. 22

By Ryan Clark ALBION, Neb. (Aug. 15) – Less than a year after the death of IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver Shane Thome, his hometown track is planning a special event in his honor. Boone County Raceway will host the first annual Shane Thome Modified Mania special on Friday, Aug. 22 to remember Thome, who died as a result of injuries suffered in a car accident last September. The Modified division will headline the event with a $2,500 winner’s share on the line and a guaranteed $125 to start the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Jet Racing Central Region and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. Super Nationals pre-entries already up over last year

BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 15) – Pre-entries for the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s are running ahead of numbers for last year’s event. More impressively, the increase from two years ago is now a robust 25 percent. At of the end of the business day on Thursday, 333 drivers had completed the early registration process. That’s up from the same date each of the last two years. By division, 2014’s early entries include 129 Modifieds, 69 Stock Cars, 54 Hobby Stocks, 68 Northern SportMods, two Late Models and 11 Sport Compacts. Super Nationals is Sept. 1-6 at Boone Speedway. Another 132 drivers have already reserved pit stalls. In all, pre-registered and confirmed drivers hail from 26 states and Canada.
