Marriott’s IMCA Modified ‘A’ game is good for second Hawkeye Dirt Tour win in three nights

ALTA, Iowa (Aug. 10) – Hunter Marriott brought his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified ‘A’ game to Buena Vista Raceway on Wednesday. The result was his second Hawkeye Dirt Tour feature win in three nights. Marriott restarted inside row one after frontrunners Chris Abelson and Kyle Strickler got together to bring out a lap six caution, then led the last 25 times around the track to top the $1,500-to-win feature at Alta. He pulled away from Joel Rust – ironically the Tuesday winner at Hamilton County Speedway when Abelson and Kelly Shryock tangled while battling for the lead on the last lap of the Harris Clash – before taking his second Iowa Modified Speedweek checkers. “It kind of felt that way,” Marriott said, acknowledging the lap six sense of déjà vu, “but there were a lot of laps left. Kyle and Chris both had very fast cars. It’s unfortunate that it happened and they both had to go to the tail.” Abelson changed a flat tire, and made a late bid for the top five [Read More]

Another Arizona trip planned as Gaylord builds on 2015 IMCA Modified success

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Tows to sunny Arizona in January and February have helped make Ryan Gaylord faster when the IMCA racing season starts closer to home. He’s headed back to Cocopah Speedway next month to begin building on what was a very successful 2015 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified season. From Lakewood, Colo., Gaylord racked up three feature wins and another 11 top five finishes in 31 point season starts – at 16 different tracks in seven states – before ending the year with first, second and third-place October finishes at three specials in Kansas. “Looking back at everything, it was kind of chaos,” Gaylord said of his seventh season in the sanctioned division. “My younger brother Tripp is my crew chief and before the season we talked it over and decided we wanted to do what was the most fun for us.” While he qualified for just two of the four Winter Nationals features last year, the long trip was another learning one and paid dividends later in the season. “We had gone to [Read More]

Hogge repeats historical sweep of Delta-Valley Classic

MERCED, Calif. (Sept. 26-27) – Bobby Hogge IV repeated history in taking both legs of the fourth annual Delta-Valley Classic at Antioch Speedway and Merced Speedways, collecting $4,000 in winnings and a $500 bonus. Hogge had accomplished the same difficult Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feat four years earlier. Challenged by 16-year-old Ethan Dotson, the veteran Hogge searched for the right groove to maintain the lead Sunday at Merced. Paul Stone, who had run second the night before at Antioch, chased Dotson across the line. “Ethan is a true racer. He left me room to race him clean. He’s very impressive for his age,” Hogge said from victory lane. “As the track became slicker and slicker, I tried to stay in the same ruts lap after lap to maintain traction.” Earlier this summer, Dotson pulled off an upset, winning the Harris Clash at Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa. He was the first Californian to win that race. Soft-spoken Dotson was modest after the Merced show. “I came close to passing him a few [Read More]
