Brown is late-race hero at Hogan Memorial

VINTON, Iowa (July 3) – Kyle Brown had one win and a bunch of fourth-place finishes going into Tuesday’s Hogan Memorial. He had the most prestigious win of his IMCA Modified career when it was time to load up the trailer following the 24th annual special at Benton County Speedway. Brown pounced when leader Troy Cordes got out of line with seven circuits to go in the 50-lapper, charging to the front and outrunning defending race winner Hunter Marriott to the checkers. Forty Modified drivers from across three states were entered and Cordes, two-time Hogan winner Richie Gustin and Chris Simpson completed the top five in a main event that played out in front of a packed grandstand. Hancock County reschedules Northern SportMod Nationals to July 10

BRITT, Iowa (June 19) – Chalk up a “W” for Mother Nature tonight in Britt. Due to rain, already wet track conditions and a less than stellar forecast, Hancock County Speed­way’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Nationals have been rescheduled to Tuesday, July 10. The MaxYield Seed-sponsored special pays $2,500 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. The evening’s IMCA Modified feature pays $1,000 to win and is both a Fast Shafts All-Star Invita­tional ballot and Wehr’s Dash at the Harris Clash qualifier. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars race for $600 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $500 to win. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Iowa State, but no track points will be awarded. Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour checkers fly at Clay County for Marriott 

SPENCER, Iowa (Aug. 7) – Hunter Marriott has to have Clay County Fair Speedway on his list of favorite tracks. So does Kelly Shryock. Marriott led the last half of Monday’s Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour main event, earning $2,000 along with the IMCA Modified checkers. He’d also won the tour event at Spencer last year and now owns four career series victories. Shryock raced all the way back to finish second after exiting for the pits following an early caution and restarting at the back of the field. He’ll take a 12-point advantage over Joel Rust into the tour finale Wednesday at Buena Vista Raceway. Ryan Ruter, Mike Jergens and Tom Berry Jr. completed the top five. BRITT, Iowa – The stars of the IMCA Modified division will shine during a rich three nights of racing at Hancock County Speedway. The Thursday, Aug. 10 Night of 1,000 Stars at Britt pays a guaranteed $3,500 to win, plus a bonus of $1,000 to the leader at halfway and another $1,000 if they have perfect attendance this season at Britt. The Night of 10,000 Stars on Friday, Aug. 11 boasts a $7,000 top check, plus $1,000 bonuses to the halfway leader, for perfect attendance and for having won on Thursday as well. Clay County, Buena Vista Raceway host final IMCA Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour dates

SPENCER, Iowa – Their consistency has put Kelly Shryock and Joel Rust in the top two spots in point standings for the Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour. Both will be looking to earn the series championship when the IMCA Modified tour concludes with events on Monday, Aug. 7 at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer and Wednesday, Aug. 9 at Buena Vista Raceway in Alta. Shryock’s runner-up finish in the most recent tour feature at Dubuque put him back in first in the points race. The veteran from Fertile has finished outside the top five just once through the first seven tour events of the season while Rust owns four top-five showings. Whole Lotta Cash at stake in Aug. 2-5 IMCA Modified features 

ALTA, Iowa – Four $1,000 to win IMCA Modified events in as many nights are on Race For The Dash and a Whole Lotta Cash cards in early August. Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot-qualifying fea­tures are scheduled Wednesday, Aug. 2 at Buena Vista Raceway in Alta; Thursday, Aug. 3 at Kossuth County Speedway in Algona; Friday, Aug. 4 at Crawford County Speedway in Denison; and Saturday, Aug. 5 at Shelby County Speedway in Harlan. The Algona show is during the county fair; BVR, Craw­ford County and Shelby County events are also Dash at the Clash qualifiers for the Aug. 8 Harris Clash at Hamil­ton County Speedway. All-Star drivers add to lengthy list of IMCA accomplishments

BOONE, Iowa (July 28) – The first 15 IMCA Modified drivers elected to start the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational bring an already lengthy list of accomplishments to the IMCA Speedway Mo­tors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Two-time defending race winner Jimmy Gustin, 2012 winner Jordan Grabouski and 2014 winner Kyle Strickler are among that elite group, announced this afternoon. Defending Super Nationals champion Ricky Thornton Jr. was the top vote getter. He’ll be joined in rep­resenting the Larry Shaw Racing Western Region by Ethan Dotson and Ricky Alvarado. Current national points leader William Gould, Dean Abbey and Matt Guillaume make the trip to Boone Speedway for the Sept. 8 event from the Razor Chassis South Central Region. Dubuque checkers make Kay first to repeat in IMCA Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour

DUBUQUE, Iowa (July 25) – Justin Kay’s drive to victory lane following the Arnold Motor Supply Haw­keye Dirt Tour feature at Dubuque Speedway started back home in the shop. Kay led the last 11 of 30 laps in winning the Tuesday IMCA Modified main event, on open­ing night of the county fair. The $1,200 tour victory was Kay’s career fourth, his second of the season and put him on the ballot for the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “We made a bunch of changes in the shop. I didn’t feel I was very good at Oskaloosa or Knox­ville,” said Kay, who had finished seventh and then fifth in the previous two tour events. “The car got a lot better. That was a big part of it. Kossuth County pays $2,000 to Thursday IMCA Modified winner

ALGONA, Iowa – IMCA Modifieds race for $2,000 to win their Dash at the Harris Clash qualifying main event this Thursday, June 15 at Kossuth County Speedway. The Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier is part of the Algona Feed Store Modified Special. There is a $50 entry fee for the draw/redraw show. Also on the card are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. All points, including track, will be awarded in all sanctioned divisions. Pit gates open at 5:30 p.m. and racing follows 7 p.m. hot laps. Gustin leads late, takes Night of 1,000 Stars checkers

By Ryan Clark BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 13) – An 83 minute rain delay was the first of many unexpected twists during the Night of 1,000 Stars at Hancock County Speedway. What seemed like a guaranteed payday for Ryan Ruter ended with a pair of broken rear axles in the 50-lap feature event for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. That allowed Richie Gustin to steal the spotlight late as he drove to his first win in the annual event. Ruter took the lead from Corey Dripps on the sixth circuit and then built a straightaway lead when the mandatory caution slowed action on lap 25. After the 10 minute stop for drivers and crews to make adjustments to their cars on the front stretch, Ruter picked up where he left off when racing resumed. Ruter’s advantage was nearly half a lap when misfortune struck and he slowed to a stop on the front stretch with 43 laps complete.
