Bruening becomes fifth Late Model winner at Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 6) – Tyler Bruening added his name to the list of Budweiser IMCA Late Model winners Saturday night at Independence Motor Speedway. Bruening took the lead from Dirk Hamilton on the 10th of 25 laps en route to victory to become the fifth different Late Model winner in as many weeks at the speedway. Tyler Droste started alongside Bruening in the fourth row and crossed the line second ahead of Darren Ackerman. J. D. Auringer raced the high side to a convincing win in the 20-lap Performance Bodies IMCA Modified main. Auringer took the lead from Joe Docekal following a lap seven restart and then checked out on the field to take the victory ahead of Troy Cordes and Vern Jackson. In Burco Sales IMCA Stock Car action, IMCA Modified veteran Darin Duffy earned the first Stock Car win of his career in just his second night in the division. Zogg gets first Davenport win of season

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 5) – One hundred and fifteen cars and more than 250 laps of green flag racing made for a busy Friday night at Davenport Speedway. Chris Zogg finally got his 2015 season at Davenport turned around with a victory in the Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified feature. Zogg led all 20 laps en route to the win. Justin Kay placed second in his first local Modified appearance. Milo Veloz Jr. battled his way to third place. Kay did double duty and made it back-to-back wins in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models. Kay took the lead on lap 13 and never looked back. Nate Beuseling finished second and Chuck Hanna was third. Double duty was also the theme for the Hawkeye Auto IMCA Northern SportMods. Dustin Crear scored the win in the make-up feature. Familiar faces in a familiar place Friday at Marshalltown

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 5) – Familiar faces found their way to victory lane Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Jared Van Deest made the top line work to perfection in topping the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main event. Travis Peterson led after midway and ended in second; Sam Wieben was third. Jimmy Gustin took charge with 10 laps remaining and earned the Coors Light IMCA Modified victory ahead of Ronn Lauritzen and early leader Adam Larson. Eighth starting Donavon Smith found his way to the front of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature field on the fourth lap. He led the rest of the way and was chased across the stripe by Michael Jaennette and Dave Atcher. Austin Luellen earned his sixth local Toby K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stock feature victory of the season with Eric Stanton second and Brice Udelhoven third.

Oshkosh Modified checkers fly for Roedl

(June 5) – Making his move to the front on the 17th time around the oval, Dan Roedl raced to his first local Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified feature win of the season Friday at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. Chad Bartel held off Marcus Yarie for second place. Travis Van Straten hooked up on the outside right away and drove three wide to the lead on lap two of the Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Car main event. John Heinz moved into second but ran out of laps to mount a challenge, leaving Van Straten to collect his third feature win of the season. Third went to Larry Karcz Jr. Colten Van Hierden worked his way from mid-field and into the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod lead on lap seven. Despite several cautions over the rest of the race, he was able to hold off all challengers and pick up his second Oshkosh feature win of the season. Ryan Besaw took the runner-up spot and Jeff Schmuhl completed the top three.

Point leader Strand posts Dacotah Speedway win

MANDAN, N.D. (June 5) – Point leader Shawn Strand scored his first Xtreme Motor Sports Modified win of the season at Dacotah Speedway, holding off Marlyn Seidler and Jason Grimes for the Friday night checkers. Strand took the lead from Spencer Wilson on the seventh circuit. Grimes made the most of lapped traffic to catch up with Strand and Seidler but ran out of laps. Josh Roehrich led all 10 laps to capture his second Mach-1 Sport Compact feature victory over Chase Schlafmann and Chance Seelye. Friday was also the second night of the fifth annual Dakota Legends Tour and fans and drivers traveled from as far as Texas and Indiana come to race at Mandan. Racing in his first Dakota Legends Tour, Nelson Stewart, father of two-time NASCAR champion, Tony Stewart, was also in the house.

North Star Touring Series makes Iowa debut at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 4) – Five IMCA drivers wrote their name in the record book as winners of the first North Star Touring Series features held in Iowa Thursday night. Austin Wolf, Derek Green, Jared Boumeester, Brandon Nielsen and Nate Coopman were main event winners in front of the biggest crowd of the season at Kossuth County Speedway. Wolf took charge in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified headliner after early leader Shane DeMey got into the guardrail on lap eight. Kyle Brown ran out of laps and settled for second while Eric Dailey ended in third. After two early restarts, Green motored to the high side, took the lead from Dan Mackenthun and checked out on the rest of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car field. Jake Masters prevailed in a four-car battle for second. Third went to Kevin Opheim. IMCA’s Centennial Season is theme for Super Nationals Best Looking Car contest

BOONE, Iowa – IMCA is celebrating its centennial in 2015 and the 100th anniversary season will be the theme for the best looking car contest at the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. All drivers in the six divisions competing with centennial themed cars at Boone Speedway over the course of the Sept. 7-12 Super Nationals receive $100 gift cards from title sponsor Speedway Motors. Hobby Stock and Northern SportMod themed cars will be judged on the front stretch during the Tuesday, Sept. 8 program. IMCA clarifies wheel rule for Mach-1 Sport Compacts

VINTON, Iowa – IMCA is clarifying its wheel rule for Mach-1 Sport Compacts. OEM wheels with 13-16 inch diameters, with varying offsets and bolt patterns are allowed. However, no alterations can be made to the wheel, hub, brakes or front suspension can be made for any reason. When discovered in post-race tech, the result will be a disqualification. “It has come to our attention that some competitors have been making alterations to make the wheels fit,” said IMCA Competition Director Tom Gutowski, “potentially jeopardizing the structural integrity of any or all of those components.” “Altering the wheel creates potentially dangerous scenarios. Sport Compact rules require the use of OEM wheels,” he continued, “and we allow those wheels to be reinforced per the rules but no other alterations are allowed. The OEM wheel must fit the make and model of the car and if it has to be altered to fit, it should not be used.” Questions about the Sport Compact wheel rule can be directed to Gutowski or Director of Division Development Dave Brenn.

Broken record: Rain cancel Salina Speedway races for tonight

(June 5) — What was an optimistic outlook for the week on Monday has turned into another humble Friday as heavy overnight rains will force Salina Speedway to remain silent yet again tonight (Friday). More than three inches of precipitation has fallen since midnight with more in the forecast. Promoter Tommy Hendrickson surveyed the damage early Friday morning to find the pit area looking like the Everglades, while the track and infield probably didn’t look much better. Racing is scheduled to resume next Friday, June 12. The Auto House Mod Lite division will highlight the evening with a makeup feature for the May 22 rainout first, along with a complete show. Also in action will be the 1st Class Chassis IMCA Modifieds, Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods, Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stocks, and M&H Motors IMCA Sport Compacts.
