Dolan leads all 50 laps of 50th Deery event at 34 Raceway

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (July 3) – It had been a few years since his last trip to West Burlington, so Ryan Dolan relied on Mapquest to get to town. Once he got to 34 Raceway and got some early evening brake issues figured out, he didn’t need any help getting around the track. Dolan led all 50 laps of the Tuesday night Deery Brothers Summer Series main event at 34. Brown is late-race hero at Hogan Memorial

VINTON, Iowa (July 3) – Kyle Brown had one win and a bunch of fourth-place finishes going into Tuesday’s Hogan Memorial. He had the most prestigious win of his IMCA Modified career when it was time to load up the trailer following the 24th annual special at Benton County Speedway. Brown pounced when leader Troy Cordes got out of line with seven circuits to go in the 50-lapper, charging to the front and outrunning defending race winner Hunter Marriott to the checkers. Forty Modified drivers from across three states were entered and Cordes, two-time Hogan winner Richie Gustin and Chris Simpson completed the top five in a main event that played out in front of a packed grandstand. Shipley scores in photo finish at Sheyenne

By Tom Berg LISBON, N.D. (July 1) – Dave Shipley was the photo finish winner when IMCA Modifieds returned to Sheyenne Speedway as part of the track’s 45th anniversary night. John Nord led early but was soon overtaken by rookie Jesse Skalicky. Skalicky was fast on the high side and built a nice lead, but the car on the move was the ninth starting Shipley’s. He used an effective low line, steadily moved through the field and took over second, then started closing the gap on Skalicky. As the laps wound down, Shipley got closer and closer and eventually got beside Skalicky as the two ran side-by-side the final few laps. The two raced to the line, where Shipley won a thriller by just .049 of a second in a true photo finish. Nord had a nice run to finish third, followed by Randy Klein and Tyler Peterson.

Munoz is the main man at Dodge City

(June 30) – After starting deep in the field, Angel Munoz motored to the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers on mid-season championship night at Dodge City Raceway Park. Munoz became the first three-time winner of the season at Dodge City, ultimately fending off Troy Burkhart to take top honors in the 15-lap feature. Munoz gridded the feature ninth and waded through three and four-wide traffic to take command by the fifth lap. Burkhart charged into second after a lap nine caution and turned on the heat on Munoz to see which one would become the first three-time winner of the year. Burkhart edged ahead briefly on the 10th lap only to have Munoz counter and recapture the point for keeps. Munoz raced to the stripe ahead of Burkhart with Chris Oliver, Dusty Witthuhn and Greg Schell rounding out the top five. Clay Sellard was the IMCA Modified winner and Robert Elliott paced the IMCA SportMods. Tathan Burkhart topped the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main.

Toland, Dominacki, Blum take IMCA wins at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 29) – The first race night of summer at the Davenport Speedway was an interesting one. Adding to the excitement was a partial loss of power, two-thirds of the way through the racing program. The Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature went green, white, checkered again. Rob Toland collected his second win of the season in the division. Toland got out front early and held the lead the rest of the way to the checkers. A dandy three-way battle for second went to Chuck Hanna, with Matt Ryan taking third. Bob Dominacki took home the trophy in the Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature. The win was Dominacki’s first point victory at Davenport since 2014. He took the lead after a lap 15 restart and had to hold off Toland and Mitch Morris down the stretch for the win. Late pass pays off for Wernette

(June 29) – Chad Wernette made his final move to the front in the waning laps in winning Friday’s Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified feature at Tri-City Speedway. Garrett Bennett led the opening lap before Mitchell Hunt took his turn at the point. Hunt led the majority of the event but Wernette refused to let Hunt get away. For numerous laps, Wernette and Hunt swapped the lead position. With just a few laps remaining, the Sheridan driver cleared Hunt to earn a victory lane visit for the first time this season. Hunt, Matt Szecsodi, Nate Jones and Kody Johnson completed the top five.

Newlin scores emotional Port Royal PASS victory

PORT ROYAL, Pa. (June 30) – Zach Newlin picked up his first-ever Pennsylvania Sprint Series win Saturday at Port Royal Speedway Saturday night. Along with being a huge win for the entire team it was a fulfillment of a promise as Newlin dedicated his biggest win to William Sweger, who passed away July 15, 2017, at the young age of 12 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Newlin later said he was “damn near crying” for the final three laps of the make-up event from May 5. Newlin had started on the pole and may have breathed a sigh of relief when perennial favorite Jeff Miller got caught up in a early tangle with Dave Grube. Jonathon Jones started third and pulled ahead as the front pair ran side-by-side for the lead. Newlin eventually shot into the lead and never looked back. Worrell sees fireworks early at Langley Speedway

(June 30) – The annual July 4th holiday visit to Langley Speedway was early this year and after 30 fast laps, Glenn Worrell saw the fireworks in the form of a checkered flag first. Bill Rice and Worrell paced the field to green with Rice out first as Worrell stayed close; on lap two, Worrell drove hard into turn one and to the front. Tony Harris and Mike Leraas were quickly all over Rice for second, using the high line in their bid to get by. By lap four, Harris and Leraas went by Rice and the top three were soon together and going at it hard lap after lap. Worrell kept his car smooth as Harris was going low or high every lap to get an opening while keeping Leraas in third as well. Perris residents get free admission to PAS fireworks show on July 4

The annual July 4 Salute to America Sky Concert at the Perris Auto Speedway features a professionally choreographed fireworks display with all the fabulous color bursts guaranteed to produce choruses of “oohs” and “aaahhs” from the audience.
