Sprint checkers fly for Cranston at Dodge City

DODGE CITY, Kan.  (June 1) – Luke Cranston is finding the showdowns pitting the Precise Rac­ing Products DCRP Sprint Cars versus the POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series to his liking. 

For the second time this year, Cranston raced to victory lane in Saturday’s IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park in southwest Kansas.

In the 25-lap DCRP vs. URSS Sprint Car Clash, Cranston chased down early leader Ty Williams in traffic on the 16th round and went on take the checkered flag by nearly a half straightaway. 

After a pair of aborted starts, Williams and Cranston led the 24-car feature field to the green flag with the ensuing 25 laps run off in non-stop fashion.  Williams gunned into the early lead and paced the field for the initial 15 circuits.

Cranston closed in to challenge for the point as traffic came into play after a dozen circuits and pounced on opportunity in traffic to take command on the 16th round.

Cranston slipped away in the final rounds with Williams holding on for runner-up honors.  Jake Martens battled past Taylor Velasquez to snare the show position. 

The Keizer Wheels Hard Charger Award went to Steven Richardson starting 14th and finishing fifth. 

Next up for the Rebels will be their only visit to Colorado on Saturday, June 8 as they invade El Paso County Speedway in Calhan.

Late night call seals the deal for URSS opener at Salina

Richardson reels in DCRP vs. URSS Nationals prelim win

(June 15) – Steven Richardson reeled in his first career feature win atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval by wiring the field in Friday night’s second annual Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP vs. URSS 305 Sprint Car Nationals 20-lap preliminary feature. It wasn’t without a threat for the point though, as Luke Cranston closed in past the halfway point and was challenging before getting into the turn two wall. “We’ve been running here a few years now, it feel great to finally get the dub,” Richardson said in victory lane. Belleville, Mayetta events next for United Rebel Sprint Series

By David Smith Jr., OKTidbits OBERLIN, Kan. – A busy holiday weekend is just ahead as the Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing kicks off Thursday night atop the Belleville High Banks Speedway in Belleville, Kan., before making lone 2019 appearance at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta on Saturday night.  The Independence Day special will pay $1,000 to win with $200 for all drivers making the feature finale. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with hot laps scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Racing is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start time. Adult general admission tickets are $18 with kids ages 10-17 $10. All children nine and younger will be admitted into the grandstands for free. A huge firework show follows the races on Thursday night. After taking Friday night off, the tour will then head east to Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta for a special “Clash on the Hill,” Saturday night edition of IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car racing.
