Tony Harris tops Shenandoah Virginia Sprint Series feature

(Aug. 9) – After 10-year-old Caleb Harris pedaled to second by inches in a photo finish in the kids’ bike race, his father Tony topped a wild Virginia Sprint Series feature Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway. Chris Ware and Anthony Linkenhoker paced the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green with Linkenhoker out first and Harris right behind. Harris was in front by lap three and pacing the field in an effort to save tires, which is a pavement necessity. Tom Humphries made his way to second. Jerald Harris, French Grimes and Brian Lawson were all right there after a yellow for a slowing car. When the green waved it was on again with Humphries slicing to the front and Jerald Harris second as Tony Harris stayed close in third. Duffy wins 141’s Red, White and Blue Series

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (Aug. 9) – Darin Duffy has traveled from Urbana, Iowa, to 141 Speedway and back four times this season. That 40 hours of driving time paid off as Duffy captured the track’s Red, White and Blue Series for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds. Duffy won the Saturday night feature and picked up his second $1,000 payday of the three-race series. He had finished second in the opening race and was thus one win away from scoring the clean sweep in the series. He receives the coveted crate motor courtesy of Gandrud Chevrolet along with the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth. Tim Czarneski started up front and led early in a feature that saw five cautions in all. Russ Reinwald snuck into the lead briefly but Czarneski came flying back up top. Larsons win twice in Murray County Redline North Star Series show

SLAYTON, Minn. (Aug. 8) – Dustin Larson won his second IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour feature Friday night, when the Redline Racing Parts North Star Series visited Murray County Speedway. Larson drew the pole for the 20-lapper and held onto the front spot through a series of early cautions. His brother Jeff made a charge during a long green flag run but had to settle for second. Dalton Magers, Jason Fisher and Josh Bonnstetter rounded out the top five. Dustin Larson had won the first North Star feature of his brief Modified career at Redwood Speedway on June 8. The Larson clan also celebrated an IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory as patriarch Jim took the lead with three laps left in that contest and held off Matt Speckman. Elliott shines brightest at Night of 1,000 Stars

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 7) – Mark Elliott exorcised a lot of race demons Thursday night. Elliott led every lap in winning the Night of 1,000 Stars special for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Hancock County Speedway. His share of the purse totaled $7,000, including $3,500 for the victory and $2,500 in lap money, plus another $1,000 for leading at halfway. The top-paying event of the 2014 XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour drew 84 entries from 10 states and Canada. “What really helped us win tonight was a long month of July. Werkmeister earns $1,800 for Dawson County sweep

By Kelly Ninas LEXINGTON, Neb. (Aug. 3) – Completing the sweep was easier said than done but Casey Werkmeister was $1,800 richer after he accomplished the feat. Werkmeister won his heat and the pole dash, then raced from 12th starting to win Sunday’s Dirt Track Central Jax Sports Grille Great Plains Series feature at Dawson County Raceway. He opted for the $500 pole dash check and to invert the top 12 spots in the starting grid for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. “I took the money and started 12th. I didn’t figure there’d be any guarantee I’d beat (series point leader) Mike Nichols but I passed him for the lead with about five laps to go,” Werkmeister said. “It turned out to be a fun little race. Shryock, Hahne, Gustin all have grand time at Hamilton County’s Monday Night Mayhem

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (July 28) – Kelly Shryock, Jason Hahne and Jenae Gustin all became $1,000 feature winners after Thursday Night Thunder became Monday Night Mayhem. Shryock topped the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Hahne paced the IMCA Late Models and Gustin rang up the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod win during the rescheduled fair special at Hamilton County Speedway. After starting third, Shryock raced with Mark Elliott early in the Modified 20-lapper before taking over up front. “We were in pretty good shape after that,” he said. “(Teammate) Andrew Schroeder started 11th and ran second and we always like to see that, of course.” Elliott, Jeremy Mills and Tyler Prochaska completed the top five. Long road leads to Lawson’s 2nd Virginia Sprint Series win

(July 26) – It’s been a long road for Brian Lawson after winning a Virginia Sprint Series pavement race early in the season but it all came good again on the red clay at Natural Bridge Speedway. Lawson topped Saturday night’s IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car main event with a strong dash to the checkers that carried him across the stripe in front of Ryan Price. Chris Ware and Eliah Omwake paced the field to green with Omwake up high and wide open. The high line was working for him as he streaked away. Glenn Worrell made a move on Ware and took off after Omwake as the non-stop feature clicked away. Omwake was flying while Worrell had to deal with Ryan Price and Lawson. Green takes extra lap, top check at Britt Stock special

BRITT, Iowa (July 25) – That wasn’t a victory lap Derek Green took after Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car special at Hancock County Speedway. He was just making sure. Green collected a career-best payday of $4,000 while leading all but the first three circuits of the 25-lap county fair special. He took the checkers close to a straightaway in front of defending race winner Dan Mackenthun. “It seemed like a long race after leading for 20-some laps,” he said. “I was so pumped up that I wasn’t sure about taking the checkers, so I took another lap to make sure.” Green took the initial green flag from fourth and used an early restart to get the lead. “Once I got in front I went to the bottom. Stanford conquers finale at Willamette, rules Wild West Speedweek standings

(July 26) – Alex Stanford’s third Wild West Speedweek victory made him the first driver from outside the state of Oregon to win the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour title. The $2,000 victory came Saturday at Willamette Speedway. Travis Peery, who ran in front as late as lap 32 before Stanford got the lead back, ended in second. Jesse Williamson, Collen Winebarger and Dustin Cady were next across the stripe. Greg Walters led the opening lap before a caution quickly bunched the field back up. Winebarger took advantage of the ensuing restart to take over the front spot. Winebarger was quick for much of the first half of the race but was passed by Stanford on lap 14. The California visitor set sail and appeared uncatchable before a caution for debris on lap 25 resulted in what proved to be the final restart of the night. Taylor adds Governor’s Cup to North Dakota laurels

MANDAN, N.D. (July 26) – The champion of the Dakota Classic Tour is also the winner of Dacotah Speedway’s Governor’s Cup special for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds. Jeff Taylor earned $1,600 for his efforts at the 24th annual event. Aaron Turnbull was in front briefly on the final turn before Taylor ducked in low and won the sprint to the checkers. “Aaron passed me clean. He’s a heck of a racer,” said Taylor, who had drawn the pole start while Turnbull drove his way up from seventh. “He wanted to win it and I wanted to win it.” Hank Berry, Jerad Thelen and Jeremy Keller rounded out the top five. Taylor had damaged his own car during qualifying for the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour date at Mandan and wound up 14th, his lowest finish of the July 6-11 tour, in a borrowed ride.
