By Ryan Clark INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – With half of the season behind us, Budweiser Mid-Season Championships are next up at Independence Motor Speedway. The mid-year special is slated for Saturday, June 28. The format for the mid-season points race will be the same as a normal weekly show. Heat race lineups will be staggered and inverted based on season point averages. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. Kids 11 and under will be admitted free to the grandstands if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $25. Gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6 and racing to follow. Tuesday, July 1 will be the annual visit for the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models. The top touring Late Model drivers in the region will converge on the Independence oval to chase the $3,000 winner’s share. By Scott Owen SHAWANO, WiS. (June 21) – Jerry Wilinski won his second IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature of the season Saturday at Shawano Speedway. Sophomore speedster Chad Olson grabbed the lead on lap one, then held off charges by veterans Eddie Muenster and Wilinski. Wilinski, who started ninth, made his pass for the lead on lap 12. Wilinski led to the end while Olson, Muenster, Marcus Yarie, Cody Hudson, and Mark Weisnicht waged a great battle for the next five spots on the track. At the end it was Wilinski, Muenster, Yarie, Hudson, Weisnicht, and Olson making up the top six in a race that ran green to checkered. Travis VanStraten won his second straight race and took home $700 after winning the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature after post-race disqualification of the apparent winner. FAIRMONT, Minn. (June 20) – For most of the race’s 18 laps, Derek Green gave serious thought to trying the extreme high line to get around Dan Mackenthun. He made up his mind to do it on the last circuit and the result was his sixth IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win of the season, worth $1,000 Friday at Fairmont Raceway. A late caution brought about the green, white, checkered conclusion to the evening’s headliner. “”It was kind of a Hail Mary type of deal. I passed him up on top,” Green said after chasing Mackenthun much of the way. “I thought about trying it all night. It took all those laps to talk myself into it. Mackenthun ended in second. Or as they say, “Getting hot at the right time.” If that is a true statement then IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver Mike Mashl is golden for this week’s Clash at the Creek. Mashl has won the last two features that he has participated in at 141 Speedway. Adam Reed gave Mike Mashl everything he could on the opening lap. Unfortunately for the rest of the field, that would be the last battle for Mashl on his way to his second consecutive win. Mashl led through a variety of cautions throughout the first half of the race. Troy Jerovetz mounted a charge before the final caution came out with R.M. Van Pay in tow. By Dave Panske OSHKOSH, Wis. (June 20) – Dan Roedl ran away from everybody in winning his Automotive Sup­ply Company IMCA Modified first feature Friday at Oshkosh SpeedZone. The Modifieds opened with a first-lap caution, then clicked off 20 straight hard fought laps. Roedl took the lead and sped off to hide from the rest of the field with Jerry Muenster, Shawn Frelich, Jeremy Christians, Marcus Yarie and Mike Wedelstadt behind. Frelich was also able to open an advantage as the battle for third took center stage. By halfway, Roedl was a quarter lap ahead with Frelich still holding a slight margin over third and lapped traffic coming into play as well. With five laps remaining, Yarie worked into third and chased down Frelich, taking second on lap 17. Jared Siefert, Christians and Wedelstadt were also able to get by Froelich over the last few laps, but all chased Roedl as he collected his first career IMCA Modified feature. By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 20) – Brandon Williams was not to be denied his first win of the season Friday at Motown. Tom Rawlins and then Shawn Simatovich led early in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature before Williams took charge. Sam Wieben tried several times to take the lead away but finish in the runner-up position. Luellen, Jenae Gustin, Carter VanDenBerg and Taylor Musselman rounded out the top five. Luke Wanninger caught rookie Joel Rust for the lead on the 21st circuit and led to the IMCA Xtreme motor Sports Modified checkers. Donavon Smith raced to his seventh local IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers of the season. Eric Stanton was fastest by the width of his bumper in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main. David Moorman was the Mach-1 Sport Compact winner.
