Program cut short due to rain, double features next two weeks at Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 28) – The skies opened at the end of heat race qualifying as heavy rain cut short the mid-season championship program Saturday night at Independence Motor Speed­way.

With qualifying completed, the program was declared a complete show. Make-up features for the five divisions will be added to the schedule offering race fans double features during the next two weekly racing programs.

Next Saturday, July 5, double features will be run in the Performance Bodies IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car divisions. The make-up features for the IMCA Late Models, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods will be held Saturday, July 12.

Only drivers who were signed in to compete June 28 will be allowed to take part in the make-up features. Buy-ins will not be permitted.

Since qualifying for the June 28 program was completed, rain checks will not be honored.

Grandstand admission for weekly racing is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. Kids ages 11 and under are admitted free if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $25.

Start times also will remain the same for the double feature nights. Gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6 and racing to follow.

The next event at the speedway is this Tuesday, July 1 when the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models makes its annual stop.

IMCA sanctioned Hobby Stocks and Northern SportMods will join the Late Models and compete for increased prize money. Track points will not be awarded.

July 1 grandstand admission is $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. Kids 11 and un­der are free if attending with a paid adult. Pit passes are $30.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. Tuesday, with hot laps scheduled for 6:45 and racing to follow.
