Deery win at Donnellson another milestone for Aikey

DONNELLSON, Iowa (Aug. 2) – It had been several years since the last time Lee County Speedway hosted the Deery Brothers Summer Series.  It had been even longer since Jeff Aikey drove to victory lane following an IMCA Late Model tour race at Donnellson. Both absences ended Friday night. Aikey finally caught passed race-long leader Andy Eckrich with four circuits left in the 40-lapper, then pulled away to the $2,000 checkers. The victory was his second of the season and series-leading career 70th. Aikey’s one previous Lee County win came in April of 1996. “Andy was tremendous out there,” said Aikey, equally quick to compliment the track prep crew at Donnellson. “And what a race track!  High, low, you could run wherever you wanted to go. It was a great show for the fans.” John Emerson, 11th starting Tommy Elston and Joe Zrostlik completed the top five. Eckrich had started from the pole and set a blistering pace on the initial start and again following the second of two lap 14 restarts. Eric Pollard, who’s won [Read More]

Pollard led all 40 laps of the Deery Brothers Summer Series main event at West Union, earning $2,000 for his IMCA Late Model tour career first victory. The win came in front of a big and boisterous grandstand crowd during the county fair, and followed Pollard’s previous career best Deery finish when he ran fourth at Benton County Speedway on June 27. “We finished top five in Vinton and it seemed like we got the weight off our shoulders,” he said. “To win tonight and get that trophy was awesome.”  Pollard drew the outside pole start after running second in his heat. He got a big jump on the initial start while pole starter Joel Callahan gave chase from the higher line. Cautions worked to Pollard’s advantage in taking out lapped traffic. Confident in lapped traffic, Callahan collects Benton County Fair Deery Series feature win

VINTON, Iowa (June 27) – Lapped cars didn’t bother Joel Callahan. He figured if he had to get past them, so did everybody chasing him for the lead in Thursday’s Deery Brothers Summer Series main event at Benton County Speedway. Callahan made the most of four restarts before midway of the 40-lap IMCA Late Model tour feature after starting ninth, reeling in Jeff Aikey and leading the last 16 circuits for the $2,000 victory, his Deery career sixth and first since July 7 of 2016. “It’s always good to win. We had a good car and the cautions helped. It seemed like every caution I was able to gain a couple spots,” Callahan said following the county fair show victory.  Aikey, winner of the previous tour race at Maquoketa Speedway, had started from the pole and set a blistering pace in the early going.  Cautions erased his big leads, however, and Callahan was already sitting in second when the fourth of those yellow flags waved on lap 18. Both had to work their way around [Read More]

Aikey’s new ride passes Deery Series test, Maquoketa checkers are tour career 69th

By Rob Hinckley  MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 18) – As Jeff Aikey drove the four-wide parade lap, he knew his car would be competitive.
