Deery Brothers Summer Series gets top billing at Benton County Fair show

VINTON, Iowa – The Deery Brothers Summer Series headlines blue ribbon fair week entertainment next Thursday, June 27 at Benton County Speedway. 

The 50-lap $2,000 to win, minimum $300 to start main event marks just the fourth visit by the IMCA Late Model tour to Vinton. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the drivers’ meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. with racing to follow.

Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $5 for kids and free for youngsters ages five and under when accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $30.

Also on the Benton County Fair program are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. 

Darrel DeFrance of Marshalltown has competed at all 492 events in the series’ 33-year history and won the first Deery event held at Vinton in 1988.

Rob Toland of Colona, Ill., was the Deery winner at Benton County in 2005 and Jeremiah Hurst of Dubuque led the way to the checkers when the tour made its much anticipated return last June.

Justin Kay of Wheatland and Jeff Aikey of Cedar Falls are Deery feature winners so far this season. Point leader Kay is the three-time and defending tour champion; seven-time series king Aikey won his career-leading 69th feature Tuesday at Maquoketa.

Bullring opener set for Sunday

VINTON, Iowa – With the annual season-opening Frostbuster special in the books, the weekly points opener is next on the schedule at the Benton County Speedway Bullring this Sunday, April 18. Five IMCA sanctioned divisions are set to do weekly battle on the Bullring throughout the 2021 season, including the 96.5 KISS Country Modifieds, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods presented by Christie Door Company, Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Albert Auto, Sunoco Hobby Stocks presented by Kwik Star and Mach-1 Sport Compacts presented by Auto Crafters.  Pit gate and grandstand both open at 3 p.m., with hot laps at 5:40 and racing to follow. General grandstand admission is $13, seniors and veterans $11 and students ages 6-14 $5. Kids five and under are admitted free with a paid adult. Pit passes are $30. Berry is best in Bald Tire Bash at Benton County Speedway 

VINTON, Iowa (Aug. 14, 2022) – Sure, the $2,000 was nice, but Tom Berry Jr. had extra motivation Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. Berry, who already earned qualifying eligibility for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational in his IMCA Modified, was looking to do the same in his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car for the B&B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational. He did just that during the Bald Tire Bash, which required drivers to use tires with a tread depth of no more than 5/32”. Leah Wroten led throughout the early stages of the 25-lapper while Dallon Murty and Kaden Reynolds gave chase. Wroten’s pursuers became the pursued when they made their way around her and into a battle for the lead while Berry worked from a row five start. Murty maintained the point when caution slowed action with 19 laps complete. Berry, who restarted in the second row, kept pace with Murty when racing resumed and positioned himself to steal the lead in turn four on the ensuing lap. Berry tops Sunday Modified main at Benton County

By Jerry Mackey  VINTON, Iowa (June 7) – For the first time in 2020, fans were allowed to attend the racing action at Benton County Speedway. A good crowd attended the event that saw 121 race car drivers take part in the action on Sunday night.  The headliner of the evening was the 20-lap IMCA Modified main event. Defending Side Biter Chassis North Central Region champion Tom Berry Jr. from North Dakota found The Bullring to his liking. Berry took the green flag from the seventh starting position and quickly shot into second and hounded the car of Troy Cordes. On the 13th lap, Cordes slid out of the groove in turn four and gave Berry the opening he was looking for.
