Eckrich dominant in Deery Series win at West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (Aug. 24) – He’s been consistent throughout the 33rd annual Deery Brothers Summer Series. On Saturday night, Andy Eckrich was dominant.  After showing off his speed in winning his IMCA Late Model tour heat race, Eckrich started fifth in the main event at West Liberty Raceway, reeled in early leader Kyle Hinrichs on the ninth circuit and stayed in front to the finish of the 35-lapper.  The $2,000 victory was the career ninth and first of the season for Eckrich, the current Deery point leader.  “It was really special,” said Eckrich, a three-time runner-up this year. “I have a lot of family and local fans who were here to see me win. It was nice to win in front of everybody.” The caution flew four laps after Eckrich gained the point and while Hinrichs was able to gain ground in lapped traffic, he was never able to catch up. Now the seventh different winner in eight tour events this year, Eckrich’s victory was his first since June of 2018 at Marshalltown; Hinrichs’ second-place [Read More]

Hurst leads every lap in race to Quincy Deery checkers

QUINCY, Ill. (Aug. 18) – There was no catching Jeremiah Hurst Sunday night, on a track he’s predictably run well at.  Hurst led all 30 laps in winning the Deery Brothers Summer Series main event at Quincy Raceway. His career fourth IMCA Late Model tour victory was good for $2,000.  “I’ve always run good at Quincy. When I started running Late Models, it always seemed like I did pretty good, I’ve always been comfortable there.”  “Of course,” he added, “it always helps to start up front like I did tonight.” Pole starter Hurst and Matt Ryan, who made his way to second from sixth starting, made their way around the oval on the lower line.  Jay Johnson made like a rocket in racing from ninth to third, with three-time Deery champion Mark Burgtorf returning to series action on his hometown track and joining him on the higher side.  A caution with nine laps to go bunched the field back up and Hurst held off all challengers. Ryan, Johnson, Burgtorf and Andy Nezworski rounded out the [Read More]

Ryan capitalizes on late restart to win Quad City Deery

EAST MOLINE, Ill. (Aug. 11) – Matt Ryan didn’t lead the most laps, just the most important ones.  Ryan passed Brandt Cole following a late restart and led the last two circuits in winning Sunday’s Deery Brothers Summer Series main event at Quad City Speedway. The $2,000 checkers were Ryan’s IMCA Late Model tour career third, and first since August of 2016. Cole took runner-up honors in his first career series start while point leader Andy Eckrich was third. Justin Kay, Brian Harris and Curt Martin also did stints at the front, with polesitter Kay holding off high side challenges from Tommy Elston and leading the first nine of 30 laps.  Elston was forced to retire following a multi-car tangle on lap eight and Harris shot to the front before Kay drove to the infield. Harris was slowed by a flat tire and surrendered the lead to Martin on lap 20.
