Callahan collects top Deery cash at Farley again

FARLEY, Iowa (April 17) – Something about Farley Speedway brings out the best in Joel Callahan. Callahan won his third straight Deery Brothers Summer Series feature at Farley Friday night, earning $3,000. He’d also topped IMCA Late Model tour events there each of the last two Septembers. Jeff Aikey started outside Callahan on the front row and led the first 22 of 50 laps. The field was under yellow and ready to resume racing when Aikey pulled into infield with a flat tire. That put Callahan on point and he stayed in front as the last 28 laps ran caution-free. Tyler Droste and defending series champion Justin Kay both avoided becoming part of the attrition and advanced 15 positions to second and third, respectively. Point leader Andy Nezworski was a plus eight positions to fourth and hard charger Tyler Bruening advanced 17 spots to fifth. Matt Ryan started 17th and ended in sixth. Thrasher wins again at Southern Iowa Speedway

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (April 15) – Mother Nature ruled last week, but Frostbuster winner Danny Thrasher picked up right where he left off two weeks ago at Southern Iowa Speedway. Thrasher led the distance and held off several challenges from Jamie Songer to take the Pepsi Cola IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock win Wednesday evening. Bill Bonnett got by Songer for second coming to the checkers. Jacob Murray scored the Musco Lighting IMCA Modifieds victory despite the best efforts of hard-charging Carter VanDenBerg and Jimmy Gustin. Zack Vanderbeek worked his way from seventh starting to second and finally made the pass of Damon Murty for the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car lead on lap eight. Vanderbeek held on to win despite a restart with four circuits to go. Cayden Carter got by Damon Murty on lap 15 to take second. Fifth starting Curtis VanDerWal took the lead at the start and pulled away from the pack in topping the KBOE Radio Northern SportMod main event. Brett Lowry ran second the entire distance. Bonine trades paint late, still leaves Raceway Park with top IMCA Modified check

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (April 11) – After trading some paint, Matt Bonine took home the big check from Saturday’s season-opening Spring Nationals at Raceway Park. Bonine earned $1,000 and a spot on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot for his IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified efforts. Contact with another car resulted in steering issues late in the 25-lapper but Bonine continued to make the most of the lower line in turns one and two and held off Ricky Stephan for the victory. Bob Moore, Jim Cole and early leader Jim Thies completed the top five. Shawn Primrose kept five-time defending track champion Jason Ward in check for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win. Jim Hall was third. Karl Brewer dominated the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature, taking the win over Rusty Montange and Kirk Beatty. Storrie takes Susquehanna Speedway Park opener

NEWBERRYTOWN, Pa. (April 11) – It was opening night for the Pennsylvania Sprint Series at Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday and Steve Storrie picked up the win in the 20-lap feature for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars. Zach Newlin grabbed the early lead from the pole. On the second circuit, Storrie scooted by Newlin and set the pace en route to the victory by leading the final 19 laps. Newlin tried every part of the track to try to regain the lead but had to settle for second place at the end. Colby Dice finished strong in third. Sites starts promising season with Empire State Series win at Five Mile

KIRKWOOD, N.Y. (April 12) – Eddie Sites likes the start of his 2015 a lot more than he does his 2013 or 2014 campaigns. Sites won Sunday’s opening event for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds following the Empire State Series at Five Mile Point Speedway. The victory paid $400 and came ahead of Jared Spalding and Jason Benjamin. Gary Smith and K.C. Cole completed the top five. Sites had started third, passed Mike Stoddard and Matt Cole on the second circuit, then led to the end of the 25-lapper. After seeing a comfortable lead erased by a lap 23 caution, he took the checkers two car lengths ahead of Spalding. “It rubbered up but I didn’t have any trouble getting around the track,” Sites said. “I had a pretty good car. Seymour becomes site of 1st, 200th wins for Snellenberger

PULASKI, Wis. (April 11) – That big sigh of relief you heard from victory lane at Seymour Speedway came from Rod Snellenberger. Snellenberger won for the 200th time in his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car career Saturday evening, holding off Brandon Czarapata by the narrowest of margins. “It was a relief to get it this early in the season. Everyone has been asking me how soon I thought I’d get the win,” the Pulaski driver said following his second start of 2015. “My mom and dad got back last week from spending the winter down south and were there to see me win, so that meant a lot to me.” Snellenberger counts the 2008 national championship, seven Allstar Performance State and 14 local track titles among his IMCA achievements. Murty collects opening night checkers at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (April 12) – As he had done eight times in 14 previous seasons, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car driver Damon Murty took home the checkers on opening night at Benton County Speedway. Murty started inside of row two and stole the lead from pole-sitter Scooter Dulin by the completion of the first lap to drive away to victory in Sunday’s 18-lapper. Norman Chesmore raced from the fifth row to finish second ahead of Scott Pippert. Murty ranks as the all-time leader in weekly racing wins in speedway history. He now owns 69 Stock Car wins in Vinton. Kyle Brown chased pole-sitter Joel Rust for the first dozen laps of the 20-lap IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event. Brown furiously attempted to pass Rust on the low side of the quarter-mile before opting for a groove higher than Rust on the 13th circuit. Last-corner pass lifts Humphries to Virginia Sprint Series checkers

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (April 11) – Tom Humphries was the opening night winner Saturday, in the Virginia Sprint Series lidlifter at Shenandoah Speedway. The IMCA Eagle Motor Sports RaceSaver Sprint Car tour started off the way last year ended, with a last corner pass being made for the victory. Chris Ware and Charlie Ware paced the field to green with Chris out first and Anthony Linkenhoker right behind. Linkenhoker was smooth a lane up and on lap three made his way to the front, bringing Ryan Price along as Humphries with Jerald Harris rounded out the bunch Laps clicked off as Linkenhoker stayed out front and Price was trying everything to get by and Humphries pressured in third. Halfway flags were shown with Linkenhoker still leading but Price going even lower until he jammed an inside move and got the lead. Rogers holds on for RPM checkers

(April 11) – After four runner-up finishes already in 2015, Jason Rogers finally made it to victory lane in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division but had to hold off Chad Sterling to do it on opening night at RPM Speedway. Sterling led the opening lap before Rogers took the lead on lap two. Rogers was able to hold on to the front spot with Sterling trying high and low to make a pass. As the lead duo came out of turn four to the checkers, Sterling made a charge but came up half a car length short as Rogers held on. Shaylon Holloway finished third. Davis takes Hobby Stock honors at DCRP

(April 11) – Cody Davis worked his way past early leader Zach McLemore on the ninth round then held off a late charge from Reagan Sellard to win the inaugural 12-lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature by half a car length Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park. While Sellard settled for second, Matt O’Hair filled out the podium in third. After catching a timely caution two laps into the IMCA SportMod main, Jeremy Sigler led the distance in the 20-lapper to capture his first career win in the division. Sigler outdueled Jason Lunow on the opening circuit to nab the early lead, only to have Lunow slip under on the third round for the lead. But after a caution that put Sigler back out front, there was no stopping his No. 21J as he raced virtually unchallenged to the checkered flag ahead of Lunow with 10th-starter Jared Baird third.
