Grizzle sizzles at Tri-City’s Greased Pig 5.0

AUBURN, Mich. (June 19) – Heath Grizzle put the sizzle into Tri-City Motor Speedway’s Greased Pig 5.0 special. The Michigan native and Arkansas transplant regained the lead from Myron DeYoung in topping the $1,055 to win Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. DeYoung, still in pursuit of his 100th career win in the sanctioned division, was close behind in second. Joe Fowler, Gary VanderMark and Ken Zeigler completed the top five. Grizzle drew the pole start and led the first seven circuits before DeYoung used the lower line to get past. Two laps later, Grizzle found an opening and took the lead right back. DeYoung and A.J. Ten locked in for $10,000 to win Clash at the Creek IMCA Modified main event 

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – Ten Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified drivers have punched their tickets into tonight’s $10,000 to win Clash at the Creek main event at 141 Speedway. Johnny Whitman will have the pole for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier with Justin O’Brien to his outside. Eric Mahlik and Russ Reinwald comprise row two, Brad Lautenbach and Shawn Kilgore row three. Tim Czarneski starts inside row four with Benji LaCrosse gunning for IMCA Modified career win number 100 from the outside. Rookie Brian Irvine and James Tebon fill row five. Seventy-four IMCA Modifieds ran two sets of Wednesday heats that saw the top 10 in passing points automatically make up the front five rows. Ward shows the way at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 18) – Tim Ward showed the way to the winner’s circle in weekly racing at Kossuth County Speedway. Using the same high line that took Ryan Watnem out to a big lead early on, Ward gained the lead with four laps left and stayed in front to the finish of an Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event that ran caution-free. Watnem was second and Tad Reutzel took third. Once out in clean air, Jake Masters pulled away from the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car field for his first feature win at Algona this summer. Heath Tulp was the runner-up with Dan Hanselman taking third. Ben Schultze finally wrestled the lead away from Colby Fett and went onto the Karl Chevrolet North­ern SportMod victory, his first of the year at Kossuth County Speedway. Murray tames Modified foes at Dawson County

By Kelly Ninas LEXINGTON, Neb. (June 21) – David Murray Jr. tamed his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified foes in front of a capacity crowd Sunday at Dawson County Raceway. Murray worked his way through the field and took charge on the final go around. Jay Steffens led the first 19 circuits before giving way to Murray, Colton Osborn and Anthony Roth. Kyle Clough led the last two laps in winning the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature and Josh Leon­ard was promoted to the top spot when the apparent Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod winner was disqualified in post-race tech. Jacob Olmstead raced from deep in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock field and ran in front the last four laps.

LaCrosse leads the way at Seymour

By Dave Panske SEYMOUR, Wis. (June 21) – Benji LaCrosse became the first local repeat winner in the division with his 99th career Budweiser IMCA Modified victory Sunday at Seymour Speedway. LaCrosse started outside row five and was running second to Rob Charapata by the sixth circuit. He dove to the inside for the lead on lap 14 and held off Mike Wedelstadt, already a member of the IMCA 100 career wins club, following a lap 18 restart. Travis Van Straten was half a car length faster than Brandon Czarapata in the Coors Light IMCA Stock Car main event. Point leader Jeremy Cota flew from 10th starting to first at the finish of the O’Reilly Auto Parts IMCA Northern SportMod feature.

Moede four-peats at Thunderhill Raceway 

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. (June 21) – If he spends much more time there, Marcus Moede may start get­ting his mail delivered to victory lane at Thunderhill Raceway. Moede won his fourth straight IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature Sunday at Sturgeon Bay. He passed Travis LuMaye for the front spot with six laps left and took the checkers ahead of Dave Schmidt, who rallied after an early spin. Tyler Hackett maintained a streak of his own, leading every lap and winning for the third straight time in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. Shawn Havel repeated in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Jacob Zellner was the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod winner. Inducted into the Thunderhill Raceway Hall of Fame during the evening were Wally Massart, Dar­rell Massart, Reggie Cochart, Jerry Jonet and George Henkel.

Gemmill, McCarty double up at Tri-State

By Rob Nugent POCOLA, Okla.  (June 20) – Ageless wonder Van Gemmill returned to his winning ways Saturday at Tri-State Speedway. Gemmill’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory was his second locally this season. Shawn Walsh was runner-up while Travis Johnson crossed the finish line in third. Kyle Woody picking up his first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win of the year ahead of former winner Jay Anderson and Justin Johnson. The IMCA SportMod feature saw Ken McCarty pick up his second win of the season. Logan Ellis and Gerry Vaughn completed the top three.

Meyer leads flag to flag at IMCA Northern SportMod Nationals

BRITT, Iowa (June 23)  – Even though he’d led the first 15 laps, Nick Meyer’s crew was sure they could make his car even faster for the second half of Tuesday’s MaxY­ield Seed IMCA Northern SportMod Nationals at Hancock County Speedway. After changing four tires, tightening the car up and topping off the tank during the mandatory pit stop at midway, Meyer proved them right. He led to the checkers and took home a check for $3,500. “We won on opening night at Spring Nationals in Beatrice and that was big, but this win is bigger,” said Meyer. “It’s definitely my biggest win money-wise.” Eighth in the special for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods in 2013 and seventh last summer, Meyer started the 30-lapper from outside row one. Belec proves up to Challenge at Lincoln County 

By Kelly Ninas NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (June 22) – Eddie Belec led the lap that counted the most in winning Monday evening’s Wild West Challenge headline event at Lincoln County Raceway. Belec started on the pole and chased Jay Steffens for most of the 20-lap Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event. He slid under Steffens out of the final corner and captured both the $1,000 checkers and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth. Steffens, John Hansen, Jeremy Frenier and Anthony Roth completed the top five in the NebraskaLand Days show. Jason Rogers and Shawn Harker took home $750 checks for IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victories, respectively. Hoefelman hoists hardware at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (June 20) – Eight-year veteran Jared Hoefelman won for the first time at Eagle Racewa­y Saturday night. The Kaplan University IMCA Modified checkers came ahead of Justin Wulf, Shane Hiatt and Johnny Saathoff. “This is such an exciting place to win!” Hoefelman exclaimed. “There is so much good equipment here, and such great racers” Shayle Bade was a straightaway faster than her closest RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car challenger. The winged win was her first of the season at Eagle. Benji Legg found the right setup and found himself in victory lane for the first time this season follow­ing the NAPA IMCA Northern SportMod feature. Adam Armstrong started in the eighth row after winning his “B” feature, then outran the rest of the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock field for the main event victory.
