Yarie prevails in Modified tussle at Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. (June 19) – Marcus Yarie made his first visit to victory lane this season, follow­ing Friday’s Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified main event at Oshkosh SpeedZone Race­way. Once to the front, Yarie ran a mistake-free race while second-running Steve Schneider looked high and low for a way around. Yarie held his challengers at bay, winning in front of Tim Robbins and Schneider. The Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Cars ran caution-free and John Heinz was in front when the checkers flew. Point leader Travis Van Straten was right behind in second. Greg Gutt, making a visit to his home state, had an impressive run to third. Jerry Winkler was fourth and Dion Wahl had his best run of the season, finishing fifth. Colten Van Hierden made his machine stick and took over the lead on lap 16 of the Karl Chevro­let Northern SportMod main. He pulled away over the final four circuits and recorded his third lo­cal feature win of the season. Brock Saunders took the runner-up finish with Jeff Schmuhl right behind.

Kay, Veloz, Moyer are mid-season winners at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 19) – Justin Kay, Milo Veloz Jr. and Austin Moyer were mid-season championship feature winners Friday at Davenport Speedway. Kay took the lead from Brian Harris on lap five en route to his third feature win in five Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model main events this season. Andy Nezworski started 16th, had a strong run and finished second. Chuck Hanna nipped Brian Harris for third at the checkered flag. Veloz topped a huge field of Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modifieds. Veloz started fifth and took the lead from Mitch Morris on lap seven of the 20-lap feature. After a couple of cautions near halfway, Ve­loz cruised to the win by almost a straightaway over Chris Zogg and Tony VonDresky. The Hawkeye Auto IMCA Northern SportMods saw Austin Moyer score his first win of the season at Davenport. Moyer led every lap on his way to victory lane. Tony Olson finished in second, fol­lowed by Jarrett Franzen.

Victory for VanDeest at Marshalltown

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 19) – Jared VanDeest raced to his third local Karl Chevrolet North­ern SportMod feature win of the season Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. VanDeest worked his way up to take the lead on lap six. After cautions on laps 11 and 12, he had to hold off challenges from Jenae Gustin to take the hard-earned checkers. Gustin finished se­cond with Brandon Williams in third. Joel Bushore led the first five laps in the Coors Light IMCA Modified 20-lapper before a caution came out. Richie Gustin snuck by for the lead on the restart. Brian Irvine made several attempts to take the front spot away but to no avail. Josh Gilman was third. David Brandies was the leader from lap two to the finish of the Miller Lite IMCA Stock Car feature. Brandies denied a late challenge from Donavon Smith to take the win. Funk is first at Canyon Speedway Park Father’s Day Classic

By Lonnie Wheatley PEORIA, Ariz. (June 20) – Garrett Funk was first to the World Vapor IMCA Modified checkers during Saturday night’s fifth annual Father’s Day Classic at Canyon Speedway Park. Funk rallied from the 12th starting position to capture his firs local feature win on the year, taking the checkered flag ahead of 15th-starter Shawn Zelenka. Joey Moriarty, Mike Strobl and Jason Noll rounded out the top five.

Johnson is the Modified main man at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 20) – Billy Johnson won his first feature race of the year in the MN 93 IMCA Modified division Saturday at Arlington Raceway. Nate Zimmerman had the pole start but spun on lap two, turning the lead over to Johnson, who was challenged first by Dayton Magers and then by 10th starting Clint Hatlestad. Hatlestad almost succeeded in catching Johnson but ran out of time and settled for second. Mag­ers was third. Matt Speckman and Brent Uecker traded the front spot in the B & B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car feature over the first six laps. Jeff McCollum got into the mix but ended up chasing Speckman and Uecker across the stripe. Dwain Wilmes led the first 12 laps of the 95.7 the Rock IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature in a caution-slowed show. With only three laps left, Jeremy Schultz and then Michael Stien and Jesse Cripe took the high side around Wilmes. Schultz, Stien and Cripe ended 1-2-3. Winebarger tops finale, Williamson is Wild West Modified Shootout champion

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (June 20) – After catching Jon DeBenedetti, Collen Winebarger raced to a $1,000 payday in the final event of the Wild West Modified Shootout at Willamette Speedway. Once in front, Winebarger cruised to the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory and a spot on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Jesse Williamson clinched his third career tour title in four years with a 10th place showing. DeBenedetti began building what appeared to be a comfortable lead before Winebarger drove by coming to the stripe on lap eight. Winebarger took off from the main pack from that point. A long green flag run that lasted 29 cir­cuits put traffic into the mix but Winebarger would handle the traffic with ease.  A caution on lap 30 bunched up the field one last time with no lapped traffic between the frontrunners. Eakin breezes to IMCA Sprint win at I-90

By Steve Zwemke HARTFORD, S.D. (June 20) – Six weeks have produced six different winners in the Coffee Cup IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car division at I-90 Speedway. Nate Eakin dusted the field by leading all 20 laps of this week’s feature. “You had to adapt to the track and we did,” said Eakin, who started from the pole. It didn’t take him long to form a rather large lead and it stayed that way until Jeff Edgington spun on the final lap. Eakin again showed his dominance over the final two laps for his first win at I-90 Speedway. Point leader Colin Smith was second.

Pruitt picks up first Stock Car win at Stuart 

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 21) – Brandon Pruitt became a first-time IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature winner Sunday at Stuart Speedway. Pruitt wasted little time in taking charge from his front row start. Marcus Fagan got up to second before a lap four caution but there was no catching Pruitt once the race was re-started. Fagan ended as the runner-up and Josh Daniels took third. Josh Gilman held on following a late caution to take the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified vic­tory in green, white, checkered fashion. Nick Roberts made it a contest but settled for second. Completing the top three was Luke Wanninger. Shannon Anderson scored his second straight Father’s Day win at Stuart. Kody Havens prevailed in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main event and Jacob Reiter swept heat and feature wins in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts.

Photo finish Wild West Shootout win for Stanford at Willamette

(June 19) – The outcome was decided by all of .017 of a second Friday night as defending Wild West Modified Shootout champion Alex Stanford continued his tour success at Willamette Speedway. Ryan Gaylord led most of the way in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event before Stanford moved from the middle to the higher line. The front pair came out of the final turn door handle to door handle. Stanford eked just inches ahead to take the $1,000 victory, The Shootout victory was his first this season, Stanford’s tour career sixth and fourth straight win at Willamette during Speedweek competition in a streak dating from 2013. Hogan nabs IMCA Modified checkers at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (June 21) – Although the 21st annual Hogan Memorial isn’t scheduled until July 12, Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified driver Scott Hogan served up his own version of the event Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. While the July 12 event is held in honor of the memory of his parents, Hogan delivered his first win of the season on Father’s Day, which also would have been his mother’s 78th birthday. Mike Burbridge built a big early lead in the 20-lap feature while Jerry Dedrick pursued and Hogan raced from a fourth row start. Hogan settled into the top three in time for a pair of restarts on laps eight and nine, however Burbridge powered away from the field each time racing resumed.
