By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (June 9) – Marcus Yarie and Kyle Raddant made return trips to the winner’s circle at Shawano Speedway following IMCA Modified and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main events, respectively. Chucky Forstner and Jerry Muenster battled for the lead on the opening lap of the Modified main.  Forstner held the lead until lap 10 when rookie Brekken Kleinschmidt took to the outside of the track and grabbed the front spot. Yarie followed Kleinschmidt around Forstner into second, then powered his way past Kleinschmidt for the lead on the following lap.  Wyatt Block soon passed Kleinschmidt to grab second.  In the end it was Yarie for the win, chased by Block, Kleinschmidt, Lance Arneson, and Jerry Wilinski.  Kaden Besaw led the opening lap of the Northern SportMod feature before giving way to Raddant, who then took to the high line of the track and looked to ride off into the sunset. Up to Challenge, Berry wins Ironman at Dacotah

MANDAN, N.D. (June 8) – Tom Berry Jr.’s first win in three career IMCA Modified visits to Mandan was good for $800 at Dacotah Speedway’s 40/40 Ironman Challenge Friday night. Pole sitter Darrell Parsons, Travis Ulmer and Tim Perkins went three-wide into the first set of turns. Ulmer shuffled into the lead as John Corell passed Parsons for third. An early caution allowed Berry to slip by Corell and Parsons before another yellow regrouped the field. On the restart, Ulmer, Perkins and Berry went three wide for the lead. Contact among the leaders bumped Perkins out of the top five as Berry grabbed the front spot. As the laps wound down, Ulmer lost positions to Corell, Shawn Strand and Jeremy Keller. While Berry pulled away, Strand started to close in on Corell. Strand had the fastest car on track, passed Corell and was closing in on Berry, who was maneuvering around slower cars. Berry used lapped traffic to his advantage and held on to win ahead of Strand, Corell, Mark Dahl and Jeremy Keller. Craig [Read More]

Beckman is best in Eagle Hobby Stock main

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (June 9) – Nick Beckman grabbed the lead on lap two and held off all challengers in winning Saturday’s Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock feature at Eagle Raceway. “I’d say it’s been four years since I’ve been on the front stretch here. It feels really good to be back in a Hobby Stock,” he said. “I knew I had to get out front and run away. I’m just glad that I was able to hold off all of the fast drivers.” Scott Bivens got the lead on the 11th circuit in winning the Hoosier Racing Tire IMCA Northern SportMod main. Likewise, it had been a while since he’d been to victory lane at Eagle. “It’s been a year and a half since my last win, at least,” Bivens said post-race. “But we just keep chugging along. We’re getting faster this year, so maybe we’ll do this some more.” Already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Jordan Grabouski earned $1,000 for his fifth Runner Freight IMCA Modified feature win of 2018. Szecsodi sizzles at Tri-City

AUBURN, Mich. (June 8) – Matt Szecsodi made his second visit of the season to victory lane at Tri-City Motor Speedway after taking over the lead of the Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified feature on the 10th lap. The start of the feature was dominated by Craig Vance as he drove the bottom line to pace the field.  At lap nine, it was Chad Wernette who fought his way from mid -pack to lead. His turn up front would only last a lap as Szecsodi took over the lead. Nate Jones also fought his way through the field and got to second.  But without the help of any caution flags, Szecsodi’s lead was too big to overcome. Szecsodi parked in victory lane with his second feature win of 2018.  Jones grabbed his third runner-up finish of the season. Jones was followed by Wernette, Drasco, Ark., driver Heath Grizzle, and 19th starting Chris Cohoon. Bolac is the fastest at Dixieland’s Fast Friday

By Jim Haines ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (June 8) – Dixieland Speedway hosted the first Virginia Sprint Series Fast Friday event of the season after an earlier rainout and Daren Bolac was the fastest at his hometown track. Bill Rice and Chris Ware paced to IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green with Ware getting the run off the top and Rice down low. Ware was steady up top but ultimately no match for Bolac, who proved the bottom was fast as well in taking away the lead. Tom Humphries got by Rice and was shadowing Ware lap after lap but their pursuit was changing every corner of every lap as Jerald Harris, C.J. Faison, Tony Harris, Jake McLain, Jeff Taylor and Randy Sterling were all in a pack. Bolac stayed strong up front and Humphries got by Ware, leaving him to deal with Faison. Bolac was just not going to be caught as the checkered flag was waving for a popular win with Humphries second and Faison third. Next it’s a first-time visit to Hagerstown, [Read More]

Muenster tops Modified main at Luxemburg

By Scott Owen LUXEMBURG, Wis. (June 8) – In the racing world, it’s an impressive feat to win two races in a row, but to do it on back-to-back nights on two distinctly different surfaces is something rarely seen anymore. Eddie Muenster pulled it off, though, scoring a late model win on Thursday night and following it up with his first IMCA Modified win of the season Friday at Luxemburg Speedway. Chase Parker led early on, with Muenster and Brian Mullen hot on his heels. Parker did his best to keep the veterans at bay but Muenster eventually found his way past for the lead. Mullen also passed Parker and began to pester Muenster for the top spot. As Parker began to fade, Shawn Kilgore and Mike Mullen came from deep in the field to join the top four. At the end, Muenster held off Mullen for the win followed by 12th starting Kilgore, and 13th starting Mike Mullen. Parker held on for a strong fifth place finish in the caution-free affair. Brett Wenzel nearly equaled Muenster’s accomplishment, finishing [Read More]
