Rain postpones Bud Shootout at U.S. 36 Raceway

OSBORN, Mo. (June 19) – Due to late morning rain, US 36 Raceway officials have canceled racing for June 19.  With the threat for more storms later today and driver’s traveling from several different states, US 36 made the decision to cancel for tonight.  The Bud Shootout featuring the Sprint Series of Nebraska is postponed to Friday, July 3. The Doyle Lance Remembrance Race for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars is postponed to next Friday, June 26. The race pays $700 to win and $100 to start.  In addition to the Doyle Lance Remembrance Race, up next at US 36 Raceway, Friday June 26, is the Weekly Racing Series featuring IMCA Modifieds, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars and Karl Kustoms SportMods.

16 chassis builders enter Manufacturer’s Cup contest

VINTON, Iowa – Entries trend up again this season, as 16 chassis builders contend for national and regional honors in IMCA’s Manufacturer’s Cup contest.  Standings are again based on makes of chassis driven by top 10 drivers in each region. 2020 champions will be determined based on points earned in each of the five Modified regions while the builder with the highest overall point total will be named IMCA’s national Manufacturer of the Year. The national Manufacturer of the Year receives a trophy while the top builder in each region receives a $100 cash prize and a plaque. New to Cup contention is IRP Race Cars of Longview, Texas. Defending champ is latest Springfield winner

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (June 13) – Defending track champion James Thompson made a low groove move and then held back repeated charges from Dillion McCowan to capture his first IMCA Modified feature win of the season Saturday at The Quick Quarter of Springfield Raceway. Thompson got back on track after struggling in the first two races of the season. “We had some tough luck on opening night and last week we just flat missed it,” said Thompson, who became the third different winner in as many weeks at Springfield, following Ken Schrader and first-time winner Trevor Drake to the top of the podium.  The 20-lap feature saw six cars battling for the top spot during the first half of the race. Werner, Walters are URSS winners at RPM

HAYS, Kan. (June 13-14) – Jed Werner and Koby Walters ran the string of Mel Hambelton Ford Racing POWERi United Rebel Sprint Series winners to four in as many events, when the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series joined the Mike Hughes Memorial Sunflower Classic slate at RPM Speedway. Werner got a run on race-long leader Shane Sundquist down the backstretch with just three laps to go to claim the opening night event on Saturday. Walters took the lead just before midway and never looked back to claim Sunday honors. Only two car lengths separated the front pair with five laps to go on Saturday. Lap 23 saw Werner get a run on the top side coming out of turn two and storm past Sundquist down the back stretch to take the lead. Sprint win by Reed highlights night of firsts at Cotton Bowl

PAIGE, Texas (June 13) – On a night of firsts at Cotton Bowl Speedway, Willy Reed won his first Southern United Sprints feature in his first visit to the Paige speedplant.  And his mother Roxanne got to watch the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car excitement unfold from the grandstand.  “This was my first win in a Sprint Car. My mother had never seen me race before in the class and I didn’t even know she was there,” said Reed. “I was pretty excited about it. She was pretty excited, too.”  Reed made a couple RaceSaver starts last season and ran third in the series opener last week at Cleveland. Contingency forms now posted on IMCA website

VINTON, Iowa – Contingency forms for drivers in five divisions are now available through the IMCA website.  IMCA Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMod drivers can access those forms utilizing the forms pulldown at the top of the home page.  Forms can be filled out and returned electronically or printed and mailed to the IMCA home office along with a car photos proving decal placement. The Aug. 1 deadline for submitting contingency forms has been suspended, noted IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder, to ensure that as many drivers as possible have the opportunity to sign up.

Eight drivers new to Fast Shafts All-Star ballot

VINTON, Iowa – Another eight IMCA Modified drivers have raced their way onto the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot by winning special or weekly features paying $1,000 or more.  Ricky Alvarado and Tanner Black both won Rudy Yeager Memorial features at Sweetwater Speedway. Jim Thies topped Park Jefferson Speedway’s Memorial Duel. Collen Winebarger swept Covid-19 special and George Steitz Memorial features at Antioch Speedway, then took the checkers on night two of the High Desert Classic at Winnemucca Regional Raceway. Tyler Stevens led the way to the finish line at Legit Speedway’s Scrappin’ 40. Benton County duel goes to Cordes

By Jerry Mackey  VINTON, Iowa (June 14) – Sunday’s IMCA Modified 20-lap feature saw long-time Benton County Speedway racer Troy Cordes outduel Dylan Thornton from California for the win.  The two traded the lead several times before Cordes was able to take control late in the race. Thornton ran a close second ahead of last week’s winner Tom Berry Jr.  The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature belonged to Shawn Ritter. He ran the extreme low line the entire race and held back Damon Murty in getting to the checkers first. Outside front row starter Tony Olson put on a dominating performance in winning the Karl Kus­toms Northern SportMod main. Olson ran the extreme high side the entire race in leading flag to flag. Dylan VanWyk made the bottom work well but not good enough to get by Olson in settling for second.  Plenty of excitement was witnessed by the fans in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. From 18th, Knutson captures Hobby checkers at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (June 13) – Eric Knutson earned hard charger and feature win honors after starting 18th in the Saturday IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature at Boone Speedway. Knutson got past Bryant Johnson in the closing laps to capture the win.  Following second place Johnson was Daniel Smith in third, Curt Reed took fourth, and Jeremiah Andrews was fifth. Ricky Thornton Jr. followed his king of the hill triumph with the IMCA Modified checkers after starting 12th while Doug Smith repeated his winning ways in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main. Troy Jerovetz took command at lap four of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car 20-lap feature and dominated to the checkers.  Race cars were not the first to hit the track at Boone Speedway on Saturday. It was the Boone High School Class of 2020 that got to parade down the frontstretch and take the checkered flag first.

Logan Duffy scores first Indee IMCA Late Model win

By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 13) – Saturday was a night for the record books at the Independ­ence Motor Speedway, with two bounties claimed and another set, plus hometowner Logan Duffy scored his first local win in the very tough IMCA Sunoco Late Model division.  A total of 124 drivers signed in do battle.  Duffy started racing at his local track by jumping right into the Late Model division at the age of 14 with veterans like Jeff Aikey, Curt Martin, Greg Kastli, Sean Johnson and many more. Under the watchful eye of his grandfather and IMS Hall of Famer Gary Crawford, Duffy scored the 25-lap feature win on Saturday night. Ben Seemann led early before Johnson took the point. Johnson led until a restart late in the race and that is when Duffy used the low line of the multi-grooved track to shoot into the lead.
