Mroczkowski edges Van Straten for Outagamie checkers

(Aug. 21) – Josh Mroczkowski took the lead with five laps remaining and went on to win the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature by inches over Travis Van Straten at Outagamie Speedway Friday night. Tyler Wendt raced from the outside pole to the lead on the opening lap. Mroczkowski came to call just past the midway point to take the lead away from Wendt down low. The duo traded the lead over the next few laps with Mroczkowski racing back to the top spot on lap 15. Mroczkowski moved to the upper groove, which allowed Logan Leary and Van Straten to race three-wide under the leader. As the checkers flew it was a two-horse race of Van Straten and Mroczkowski racing to the finish line as the pair came across the stripe in a visual dead heat. Big crowd enjoys season championship night at CJ

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (Aug. 21) – The largest crowd of the year came out on Friday night to cheer on their favorite drivers on a near perfect weather night at the CJ Speedway. Mincer Ford of Columbus Junction sponsored the season championship races. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature took the green with Howard Gordon Jr. setting sail from his outside front row starting position. Gordon led the first half of the race while a fierce battle was waged by a pack of contenders for second. Tenth starting Damon Murty broke out of the pack just past the midway point to take control of second. A lap 13 caution bunched the field on the restart the battle was on for the lead. Murty used both the high side and the bottom before shooting past Gordon and into the lead on lap 16. Season champions crowned at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 20) – In the final evening of dirt track racing of the summer Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway, unofficial season champions were crowned in each of the divisions. Kaytee DeVries overcame a three-point deficit by earning her fourth feature win of the season to edge Lucas Parsons by one point for the Mach-1 Sport Compact championship. The early leader in the 12-car feature was A.J. Myott as the caution came out on lap five with Myott still in the lead. Off the restart, DeVries grabbed the lead and went onto the victory. Myott held on for a runner-up finish as Jade Lange was third. The closest feature of the evening was in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Jake Masters kept the heat on Kelly Shryock for the final two laps but the Fertile driver wrapped up the season championship in the class with his fifth feature win. IMCA.TV adds to Super Nationals Broadcast Bonuses

BOONE, Iowa – More drivers will make more money in IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s main events. IMCA officials have announced nearly $8,000 in additional IMCA.TV Broadcast Bonuses will be awarded to Modified, Stock Car, Hobby Stock, Northern SportMod, Late Model and Sport Compact drivers for top five finishes in their respective main events at the 38th annual Super Nationals Sept. 7-12 at Boone Speedway. That amount complements the $14,100 guaranteed to eligible Super Nationals champions announced last month. “Obviously there is much more to the event than money but at the same time we want the purse to reflect the magnitude of Super Nationals,” IMCA President Brett Root stated. “IMCA.TV Broadcast Bonuses help supplement that. IMCA racers are the show.” The runner-up in Saturday’s Modified main event sees their share of the purse upped from $1,800 to $3,500 while the third place driver gets $2,000. Trever Sloan new to All-Star Invitational field

BOONE, Iowa – Trever Sloan has been named to the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational field. The IMCA Modified driver from Lake Odessa, Mich., replaces Brandon Smith, who will be unable to compete at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Sloan is a first-time All-Star and will represent the Dirt Works Eastern Region. The 17th Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational is on the Friday, Sept. 11 program during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Boone Speedway.

Bubak back in Dodge City form in DCRP Sprint Car Nationals opener

(Aug. 20) – Colorado’s Jake Bubak picked up right where he left off last year by wiring the field in Thursday night’s 25-lap feature to get the fourth annual Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP Sprint Car Nationals under way atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval. Last year, Bubak swept through all three nights to collect more than $6,000 as he became the third different event winner in as many years. And he may have led all 25 laps on Thursday night, but he certainly had to earn it as John Carney II pressured throughout and even slid into the lead briefly on a couple of occasions along the way only to have Bubak successfully counter. Five are Back to School Night IMCA winners at Dawson County

Anthony Roth wasted no time in running away and hiding from the rest of the field in an IMCA Modified feature that ran caution-free. Young gun Jacob Olmstead took advantage of a second lap opportunity to leap into the lead and never looked back in cruising to the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod victory. After starting in the fifth row, Mike Nichols was first to the finish line in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Bo Egge was second while Casey Woken took third after starting 22nd. Leading the final five laps, Zach Olmstead also raced from row five and captured another IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock win. Thompson tops IMCA Modified main at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 15) – Nate Thompson made his first trip to victory lane at Eagle Raceway following the Saturday night IMCA Modified main event. In front of a crowd believed to be the largest of the season, Thompson led Justin Wulf, Aaron Pella and Bob Ruisinger early, with Johnny Saathoff racing into fourth on lap three, then swapping the spot with Chad Andersen after a restart on the next lap. Jordan Grabouski jumped up to third but action slowed with eight to go for debris. Anthony Roth moved to fourth on the restart. Andersen spun with two to go for another caution. Shane Hiatt vaulted up to third on the restart with Roth clinging to fourth. That made the top four Thompson, Grabouski, Hiatt and Roth. $250 Sunoco bonuses at Shelby County Speedway, Bullring at RICO Fairgrounds this weekend

VINTON, Iowa – The payday gets even better this week for the IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature winners at Shelby County Speedway in Harlan, Iowa, and the Bullring at RICO Fairgrounds in East Moline, Ill. In a promotion postponed from last week, the IMCA Late Model winner on Saturday at Shelby County Speedway pockets an extra $250 courtesy of Sunoco Race Fuels. The same $250 Sunoco cash bonus goes to the top finisher following Sunday’s IMCA Late Model main event at the Bullring at RICO Fairgrounds. Sunoco bonuses are being presented at IMCA Late Model sanctioned weekly tracks this year. Drivers are eligible for only one bonus during the 2020 racing season. Berry continues hot streak at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (Aug. 19) – Hall of Fame Night saw Tom Berry Jr. end the Wednesday night race program at Stuart Speedway in victory lane. Scott Bash and Kollin Hibdon showed the way early. Hibdon led until lap 18 when Berry came knocking. Berry threaded the needle between Hibdon and a lapped car to take over the top spot and went on to take the win. Hibdon finished second with Josh Gilman third. Dallon Murty was the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner while Brandon Cox worked his way to the front and held off a charge from Dylan Nelson to take the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock checkers. Brayton Carter prevailed in a two-lap Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod shootout with Brian Osantowski. Mitchell Bunch shot to the front on the first lap and drove off to the Mach-1 Sport Compact win.
