DONNELLSON, Iowa (Aug. 21) – The race stayed green and after the checkers flew Denny Woodworth pocketed $1,000 for winning the fifth and final Shottenkirk Parts Express Drive For 5 qualifier for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at Pepsi Lee County Speedway. 

Ray Raker and Woodworth drew front row starts for the event, with Woodworth jumping out front to lead early over Sam Halstead and Raker. 

The fast pace Woodworth set up front allowed him to pull away from the multi-car battles behind him. 

Woodworth entered lapped traffic starting on lap 13, which allowed Halstead and Tommy Elston to close in. The top three clear lapped cars on lap 21 to set up a four-lap dash to the finish.

Woodworth held off Halstead and Elston in a caution-free race to claim the $1,000 top prize. Mark Burgtorf came in fourth with Andy Nezworski rounding out the top five.

Hanna, Becerra top opening night Drive For 5 features at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 7, 2022) – Veteran Chuck Hanna and rookie Austen Becerra were IMCA Drive For 5 winners, while Dylan VanWyk took Drive For 3 honors at Lee County Speedway. All three earned $1,000 for their Saturday night efforts, Becerra’s checkers making him Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible as well. The 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model Drive For 5 feature opened with Dustin Schram and Hanna leading the field to green. Schram led lap one, only to have Hanna power past to grab the top spot on lap two. The first and only caution of the race appeared on lap three and on the ensuing restart, Hanna jumped back out front with Denny Woodworth taking the runner-up spot. While Hanna set the fast pace out front, ninth starting Tommy Elston used lapped traffic to move into second. There was no catching Hanna, however, as he went on to claim the win. Oliver repeats at Pepsi Lee County Speedway

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 7) – John Oliver Jr. went back-to-back with his second consecutive Budweiser IMCA Modified feature win Friday at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway. Levi Smith and Mitch Boles led the field to the drop of the green flag in the 18-lap event, with Boles grabbing the early lead over Smith and Jeff Waterman. Boles held the top spot until lap three, when Waterman got under him. The second of two restarts saw Waterman jump back out front, John Oliver Jr., who started eighth, and Brandon Lennox, who started ninth, close behind. Oliver followed in Waterman’s tire tracks over the next seven laps, waiting for an opportunity to get the lead away from him.  Coming off turn four to complete lap 16, Waterman slid up the track, which allowed Oliver to shoot under him for the lead. Griffin gets IMCA Late Model Feature win, Sunoco bonus at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (July 24) – Dustin Griffin took the checkers and $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus in the Friday feature for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at Pepsi Lee County Speedway. Griffin and Matt Strassheim made up the front row for the 20-lap event. Griffin took advantage of his starting spot to grab the lead on lap one over Nick Marolf and Mark Burgtorf.  Marolf tried to keep pace with Griffin over the entire race but without a caution there was no catching the leader, as he pulled away to claim his first win of the season at the track.  It was also Griffin’s first win in three years, as he has been temporarily retired from the sport.
