Lemmens’ Stock Car tabbed as June’s best fendered entry

By Ryan Clark MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Luke Lemmens earned his first feature win of the season a couple weeks ago in his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and received some off the track accolades this month as well. Lemmens, in his fourth year in the division, was voted the winner of the Sybesma Graphics IMCA Facebook Fan Favorite Contest for fendered divisions. A regular competitor at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek and Luxemburg Speedway, the Milwaukee driver is pleased with the first couple months of his season. “We’ve had some ups and downs, but it’s been a good year,” said Lemmens, who has earned six top-five finishes in 10 events this season. A part-time racer at Luxemberg, Lemmens is racing for points at 141 Speedway, however he admits that’s no small task. “I’m sitting third right now,” he stated of the point standings at 141. “J.J. IMCA champions receive awards from RH2

RIVERSIDE, N.J. – Fourth-year IMCA sponsor RH2 gives new awards to IMCA champions this season. Main event winners in the Modified, Late Model, Stock Car, Northern SportMod, Hobby Stock and Sport Compact divisions at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s all earn sets of custom molded Nitro helmet speakers. National champions in those divisions receive the same awards. RH2, located in Riverside, N.J., sells and services communication equipment and does all radio programming for IMCA during Super Nationals. Moser Engineering continues awards for IMCA Modified, Stock, Hobby and SportMod drivers

PORTLAND, Ind. – Moser Engineering embarks on a second decade as an IMCA marketing partner, with awards for drivers in five sanctioned divisions. Awards from the Portland, Ind., rear end components manufacturer will be given based on national or regional point standings; other recipients include designated place finishers at as many as 80 special events. Runners-up in each of the five IMCA Modified regions and in both IMCA Sunoco Stock Car regions get $300 product certificates. Runners-up in standings for the two IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks regions and national standings for both Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods both receive $200 certificates. Those awards will be presented during the national IMCA banquet in November. Moser also gives $100 product certificates to designated place finishers at selected specials for the same five divisions; those awards are mailed from the IMCA home office the week after each event is held. Fairmont Stock Car checkers worth $1,000 to Green

FAIRMONT, Minn. (June 20) – For most of the race’s 18 laps, Derek Green gave serious thought to trying the extreme high line to get around Dan Mackenthun. He made up his mind to do it on the last circuit and the result was his sixth IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win of the season, worth $1,000 Friday at Fairmont Raceway. A late caution brought about the green, white, checkered conclusion to the evening’s headliner. “”It was kind of a Hail Mary type of deal. I passed him up on top,” Green said after chasing Mackenthun much of the way. “I thought about trying it all night. It took all those laps to talk myself into it. Mackenthun ended in second. Mashl readies for Clash at the Creek with another win

Or as they say, “Getting hot at the right time.” If that is a true statement then IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver Mike Mashl is golden for this week’s Clash at the Creek. Mashl has won the last two features that he has participated in at 141 Speedway. Adam Reed gave Mike Mashl everything he could on the opening lap. Unfortunately for the rest of the field, that would be the last battle for Mashl on his way to his second consecutive win. Mashl led through a variety of cautions throughout the first half of the race. Troy Jerovetz mounted a charge before the final caution came out with R.M. Van Pay in tow. Roedl races to first Modified feature win at Oshkosh

By Dave Panske OSHKOSH, Wis. (June 20) – Dan Roedl ran away from everybody in winning his Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified first feature Friday at Oshkosh SpeedZone. The Modifieds opened with a first-lap caution, then clicked off 20 straight hard fought laps. Roedl took the lead and sped off to hide from the rest of the field with Jerry Muenster, Shawn Frelich, Jeremy Christians, Marcus Yarie and Mike Wedelstadt behind. Frelich was also able to open an advantage as the battle for third took center stage. By halfway, Roedl was a quarter lap ahead with Frelich still holding a slight margin over third and lapped traffic coming into play as well. With five laps remaining, Yarie worked into third and chased down Frelich, taking second on lap 17. Jared Siefert, Christians and Wedelstadt were also able to get by Froelich over the last few laps, but all chased Roedl as he collected his first career IMCA Modified feature. The Best Appearing Car theme for the 2014 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s has been set. With the recent passing of industry icon and Speedway Motors founder ‘Speedy’ Bill Smith, this year’s theme will be a tribute to the man who founded Speedway Motors and established and built ‘America’s Oldest Speed Shop’. Cars designed with a Speedy Bill tribute or Speedway Motors theme will be considered in the judging for Best Appearing Car in the IMCA Modified, Stock Car, SportMod and Hobby Stock divisions. In addition to the theme, designs must include the required IMCA decals for each division to be eligible. All drivers entered in the judging will receive $100 gift cards from Speedway Motors. Late Model and Sport Compact drivers participating with the same theme will also receive $100 gift cards but will not be judged. Speedway Motors is in its 20th year as the title sponsor of the Super Nationals event, which runs from September 1-6, 2014, at the Boone, Iowa, Speedway.

Williams wins first at Marshalltown

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 20) – Brandon Williams was not to be denied his first win of the season Friday at Motown. Tom Rawlins and then Shawn Simatovich led early in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature before Williams took charge. Sam Wieben tried several times to take the lead away but finish in the runner-up position. Luellen, Jenae Gustin, Carter VanDenBerg and Taylor Musselman rounded out the top five. Luke Wanninger caught rookie Joel Rust for the lead on the 21st circuit and led to the IMCA Xtreme motor Sports Modified checkers. Donavon Smith raced to his seventh local IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers of the season. Eric Stanton was fastest by the width of his bumper in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main. David Moorman was the Mach-1 Sport Compact winner.

Kay and Zogg win back-to-back at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 20) – Friday was Mid-Season Championship Night at Davenport Speedway and Justin Kay scored his second straight and third point win of the season in Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model action. Matt Ryan took the lead from the pole position and led the first seven laps. Spencer Diercks lead the next four circuits with Kay finally taking the lead on lap 12. Kay cruised the rest of the way to the checkers and the win. Diercks fended off Nate Bueseling to finish second. Ryan and Todd Malmstrom completed the top five. Chris Zogg also recorded his second straight and third point win of the season in the Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified feature. Zogg grabbed the lead from Bob Dominacki on lap 12. The 20-lap main was shortened by a lap as the caution flag flew after the leader had taken the white flag. Kurt Kile made a late charge to finish second with Mitch Morris third. Gustin grabs Saturday Showcase SportMod checkers at Independence

By Ryan Clark INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 21) – Plain and simple, Jenae Gustin has Independence Motor Speedway figured out. The Marshalltown driver raced to her second straight victory and her fourth win in the last five weeks in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division Saturday night. To top off the win, Gustin took home extra cash as the SportMods were featured in the Saturday Showcase, a monthly spotlight with increased prize money for a select division. Outside front row starter Lucas Lundry held the early command while Gustin made her way through traffic from a fifth row starting spot. Gustin raced the low groove into contention as she settled into second after just four laps. A short time later Gustin reeled in Lundry, who was also running the low side of the speedway. Unable to make her bid for the lead in the bottom groove, Gustin went to work a groove higher than the leader.
