Californians pace pre-entries for IMCA’s Duel In The Desert

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Nov. 10) – A caravan of California drivers will be headed to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the IMCA Duel In The Desert. Ninety-three Golden State competitors are among the 286 pre-entries for the Nov. 12-15 special, to be held on the half-mile Dirt Track at LVMS. In all, 205 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified drivers from 24 states and three Canadian provinces, and 81 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod drivers from 18 states and one province are early entries for the 17th annual special. Modifieds race for $7,777 to win and a minimum of $777 to start their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event on Saturday, Nov. 15. IMCA Modified winner earns $1,500 at Pahrump’s Day After The Duel

PAHRUMP, Nev. – Top prize for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds running at Pahrump Valley Speedway’s second annual Day After The Duel special on Sunday, Nov. 16 will be $1,500. The 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier will start 20 cars, with a minimum of $100 paid to take the initial green. The feature will be 40 laps. Pit gates at Pahrump open at 8 a.m. and the grandstand opens at 2 p.m. Hot laps are at 3 p.m. with racing to follow. Car and driver is $75. Pit passes are $25. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 55 and over and military personnel with ID. $6 for kids ages 5-12 and free for four and under. Belleville Motorsports wins fifth Manufacturers’ Cup crown

BELLEVILLE, Kan. – Six different builders won or shared regional titles while Belleville Motorsports earned its fifth IMCA Manufacturers’ Cup crown in 2014. The Belleville, Kan., chassis builder had the top point total among the 20 manufacturers entered in this year’s program; points were awarded to 13 different manufacturers based on top 10 drivers (10 points for first, nine points for second, etc.). in each of the five IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified regions. Points from each region were then combined to determine a national manufacturer of the year. BMS tallied 47 points, Jet Racing had 28, Razor Chassis 27, Chase Allen Motorsports 24 and Larry Shaw Race Cars 22 to round out the top five. Shaw paced the Western Region points. Razor shared top honors in the North Central Region with first-time titlist Skyrocket Chassis. BMS ruled for the sixth straight year in the Eastern Region. Fleming first in 100th Empire State Series event, Cornell captures crown

KIRKWOOD, N.Y. (Nov. 8) – Chris Fleming and James Cornell both had reasons to celebrate following Saturday’s Friesen Chevrolet Empire State Series feature at Five Mile Point Speedway. Fleming topped the final feature for touring IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds of the season, earning $600 for his efforts during the National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend show. His first-ever win at Kirkwood, third tour checkers of the season and fifth overall came in the 100th IMCA Empire State Series event. The checkers were also the 30th this year for Fleming, the two-time defending Dirt Works Eastern Region champion. Cornell, meanwhile, ran second and secured the series championship. He’s the ninth different driver to win the title in the tour’s 13-year history. K.C. Cole drew the pole. Jergens best by a bumper on opening night, Marriott tops second Mod feature at Canyon

(Nov. 7-8) – Mike Jergens measured his opening night victory by inches while Hunter Marriott raced from eighth starting to win the second IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature of the weekend at Canyon Speedway Park. Both Mr. Excitement Tribute to Terry Belcher features paid $1,000 to win. Jergens escaped a wild opening lap skirmish to nip Mike Strobl at the line on Friday with Jason Noll in third as the lead trio raced off the final corner in three-wide fashion in a dramatic duel for the win. With Jergens starting fourth and Strobl racing through the pack from 20th, fifth-starter Noll advanced from fourth into the lead in the two-lap span from round five to seven after George Fronsman paced the early rounds. Jergens battled past Noll for the point on the 18th lap with Strobl edging ahead the next time around. (Nov. 5) – Just a week before the pit gates open and tech inspection starts, early entry numbers for IMCA’s Duel In The Desert special at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track stand at 282. Two hundred and three IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, representing 24 states and three Canadian provinces, are confirmed for the Nov. 12-15 special. Seventy-nine Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods, five more than last year’s record for the two divisions, are entered. Two $1,000 to win features for IMCA Modifieds at Canyon special

PEORIA, Ariz. – One thousand dollars goes to the winners of Friday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 8 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified features during Canyon Speedway Park’s second annual Mr. Excitement 40, a tribute to Terry Belcher special. Both races are 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers and pay a minimum of $100 to start. Entry fee each night and non-qualifier pay is $50. Friesen Chevrolet Empire State Series event at 5MP postponed

KIRKWOOD, N.Y. (Nov. 3) – The 100th Friesen Chevrolet Empire State Series event will now be this Saturday, Nov. 8 at Five Mile Point Speedway. Part of the postponed National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend program at Kirkwood, the feature for touring IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds pays $600 to win and a minimum of $100 to start. Pit gates open at 10 a.m. and the grandstand opens at 11:30 a.m. Practice starts at noon and the afternoon race session gets underway at 1 p.m. Spectator admission is $22 for adults, $18 for seniors ages 65 and older, $10 for students ages 13-17 and free for kids 12 and under when accompanying a paid adult. Early entries now top 200 for Duel In The Desert

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Oct. 29) – Early entries for IMCA’s Duel In The Desert continue to run well ahead of pre-registration numbers for recent seasons. Two hundred and six drivers – 146 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and 60 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods – are already confirmed for the Nov. 12-15 special on the half-mile Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. At the same time last year, entries were in hand from 134 Modifieds and 41 SportMods. 2012 entry totals came from 136 Modifieds and 24 SportMods. Final SST checkers of season fly for Garland

WACO, Texas (Oct. 25) – A low-budget driver raced to one of the biggest wins of his career in the Sprint Series of Texas finale. David Garland collected the Saturday checkers, his SST first, after swapping the lead with Trevor Reed three times on the final circuit at Heart O’ Texas Speedway. “Whew! What a night!” he exclaimed. “I’d started seventh and had to battle Kenny Elwood for second before I could even try to catch Trevor.” After seeing his motor expire during the Sept. 26 IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car series show at Mountain Creek Speedway – he and fiancée Renee traded vows in the pit area at Grand Prairie that evening – Garland ran 11th in the Oct. 4 feature at Cotton Bowl Speedway.
