IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour opener is stage for Gustin’s first Benton County, 100th career win 

VINTON, Iowa (May 29) – A driver accustomed to winning on IMCA’s biggest stages did so again Monday night. Jimmy Gustin won the IMCA Modified feature on opening night for the Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour at Benton County Speedway. The victory was his first-ever at Vinton, his first since the death of his grandfather Dale DeFrance last week and his career 100th in the division. “Winning tonight means a lot to me. We definitely had the right guy watching over us,” Gustin said after the $1,000 to win 35-lapper brought an end to the Memorial Day show. “I’m proud of the accomplishment (winning 100 career features) and joining an elite group of drivers. This is all I needed to get my confidence back. Now we’ve got to start toward 200 wins.” The only caution of the race came on the fourth circuit. Oliver tops two features at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 26) – John Oliver Jr. took home two trophies Friday night, after win­ning Donnellson Tire & Service IMCA Stock Car and Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA Northern SportMod features at Lee County Speedway. After getting the lead on lap 15, Oliver held off Jason Cook the last three circuits to gain the Stock Car victory. Oliver ran in front every circuit in collecting the Northern SportMod checkers. Michael Long was fastest in a big field of IMCA Modifieds and won in front of Hunter Marriott and Colby Springsteen. Brandon Lambert prevailed in the caution-free Armstrong Tractor IMCA Sport Compact main event. Twenty cars comprised the starting field for that 15-lapper.

Lamberies scores second Shawano win

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (May 27) – Lucas Lamberies landed his second Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory of the season at Shawano Speedway Saturday night. Kelsy Hayes snagged the lead on the opening lap and was challenged early by Jeff Schmuhl be­fore the 10th starting Lamberies raced his way to second near midway. After a lap 12 restart, Lamberies got to the outside of Hayes and the pair ran side-by-side for a lap before Lamberies secured the top spot.  Lamberies went on to win and Hayes finished second fol­lowed by Jordan Barkholtz, Schmuhl and Jordan Bartz. In IMCA Modified action it was the “O” show for the second week in a row as Matt Oreskovich led all 20 laps of the feature for his second consecutive win. Travis Van Straten pulled away over the closing laps to win the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature.

Keller collects Dacotah checkers

MANDAN, N.D. (May 26) – Jeremy Keller scored his second IMCA Modified feature win of the year Friday at Dacotah Speedway over Mark Dahl. Shawn Strand finished third while Marlyn Seidler made a late race pass to finish fourth ahead of Tracy Domagala. While everyone raced alongside the guard rail, Keller decided to go to the high side. One by one, Keller picked off drivers for position and the high line gave him the extra momentum to cut into Domagala’s large lead. A caution on lap 12 was the last thing Domagala wanted to see as it put Keller and Strand on his rear bumper. It was a three-car battle for the lead on the restart but Keller took the lead with 11 laps to go. Keller started to pull away as Domagala now had his hands full with Strand and Dahl. Engebregtsen tops Luxemburg SportMods

By Scott Owen LUXEMBURG, Wis. (May 26) – Luxemburg Speedway saluted veterans on Friday night and Vince Engebregtsen rocketed to the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature win. Brandon Kaye led the opening five laps before Engebregtsen went to the high line to take the lead on lap six.  Fourteenth starting Randy LeMieux Jr. made a late race charge for the lead but Engebregtsen would not be denied victory. Troy DeGrave came home third after starting 12th. Shawn Kilgore and Rod Snellenberger won the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main events, respectively. Brody Rivest was the Mach-1 Sport Compact winner.

Kiihne collects Hobby Stock hardware at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (May 27) – Mechanic/driver Albert Kiihne made his first visit to Eagle Raceway’s victory lane following the Saturday feature for Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks. The Drivers’ Appreciation Night checkers came in front of Jeff Ware. One hundred and sixty-seven race teams were on hand for the holiday weekend show. Jordan Grabouski topped the Kaplan University IMCA Modifieds and Trevor Grossenbacher’s season kept picking up with the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car victory. Shawn Harker collected his third Hoosier Tire IMCA Northern SportMod feature win of the season at Ea­gle. Larry Cronin saw his luck turn with the Mountain Dew Kick Start IMCA Sport Compact checkers.

CRYSTAL, Mich. (May 27) – A.J. Ward won a very competitive Lane Automotive IMCA Modified feature Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway. A strong-running Austin Wonch was second and Brenten DeYoung came home third, followed by Myron DeYoung and Chad Wernette.

Zeitner stars at Park Jefferson

JEFFERSON, S.D. (May 27) – Justin Zeitner prevailed over a star-studded IMCA Modified field in Saturday’s $1,000 to win Clash main event at Park Jefferson Speedway. Zeitner, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, tracked down Jay Noteboom, who had won the previous night at Jackson and had a $1,000 bonus riding on him. Zeitner prevailed after a long battle with Noteboom. Josh Most, Ricky Stephan and Kelly Shryock completed the top five. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars made their inaugural appearance at the track a good one as drivers went green, white, checkered. Colin Smith picked up the feature win over John Lambertz and Kaleb Johnson. Travis Barker picked up the J & J Fitting IMCA Stock Car win to end Elijah Zevenbergen’s perfect streak. Dylan Fitzpatrick finished third. Andy Hoffman led the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks from the pole to the checkers to win a race that shook up the point standings. Bennett takes first Stuart checkers 

STUART, Iowa (May 26) – Solomon Bennett won for the first time at Stuart Speedway, in Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event. Bennett and David McQuiston led the field to green with Bennett getting the early lead. McQuiston and Jack Phillips ran second and third, but Bennett was running away with the race until a yellow came out on lap 12. Bennett never looked back on the restate and took his first-ever win at Stuart. McQuiston finished a ca­reer best second with Brandon Cox third. Other winners were Nick Roberts in the IMCA Modifieds, Brandon Pruitt in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Kody Havens in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and John Gill in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts.

Harris wins again at Shenandoah

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (May 27) – Tony Harris raced his way back to victory lane at Shenandoah Speedway Saturday night, when the Virginia Sprint Series returned for a Memorial Weekend show. Bill Rice and Harris paced the field to green and Rice ways out first and staying low but Harris got a run and on lap three was scored first with Anthony Linkenhoker following into second. Rice’s brakes began to fade and Jerald Harris went by for third. Linkenhoker kept going low to work on the leader lap after lap but could only stay on his bumper and fell just short.
