Hobscheidt has just enough in the tank, takes $5,000 Iron Cup IMCA Modified checkers

JEFFERSON, S.D. (Aug. 10) – All of eight tenths of a second made the difference in Monday night’s Iron Cup main event for IMCA Modifieds at Park Jefferson Speedway. Jacob Hobscheidt led the entire 35-lap feature but had to hold off a hard running Shane DeMey in the closing laps to pick up the $5,000 win by a fraction of a second. “I raced there a handful of times but never had any luck,” Hobscheidt said after matching his career-best payday. “The last four or five laps I was running out of fuel and doing whatever I could to keep the thing running.” Hobscheidt got the early jump on the field over fellow front row starter Bob Moore and cruised early. Stars align for Parson in Texas Sprint Series wins

ABILENE, Texas – Michelle Parson went three years between IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature victories. Parson saw her victory drought end in her fifth Texas Sprint Series outing of the season, at Monarch Motor Speedway on July 3. Then she got an even more special win in her next start, following with the TSS checkers in front of a very full and very loud grandstand at hometown Abilene Speedway on July 31. “We have struggled this season,” Parson said. “It was great to win at Monarch and we had a lot of friends and family at Abilene. Winebarger is first IMCA Modified repeat winner in Wild West Shootout

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE Grove, Ore. (Aug. 9) – Collen Winebarger became the first repeat IMCA Modified winner when the Wild West Shootout traveled to Cottage Grove Speedway Monday night. The 40-lap feature got off to a rough start with a multi-car tangle on the initial green. When racing resumed, Winebarger took over the lead and held onto the front spot through five restarts. Winebarger witnessed a brief scare when he went off of the top of the final set of corners in lapped traffic on lap 30. He was beaten to the line by Jesse Williamson, but a yellow came out before the entire lap was considered complete, thus giving him back the lead. Winebarger dominated the rest of the distance Already Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible, he earned $1,000. PASS entries total 46, red hot Bard wins at Port Royal

(Aug. 7) – Garrett Bard won his fifth Pennsylvania Sprint Series race in his last sixth starts Saturday night, taking advantage of his second straight front-row starting position draw and fighting off stout challenges from Kenny Heffner and Tyler Snook to top the 20-lap feature at Port Royal Speedway. The defending national champion Bard received his final and most serious challenge on a late restart with six laps to go. Rookie Snook dove to the inside and briefly claimed the lead, but Bard’s outside power was enough to return him to the top spot and the win. Kenny Heffner also challenged earlier in the race and re-took second place from Snook in the waning laps. Ken Duke and Dom Melair rounded out the top five. Bethany Speedway back to racing

A good car count signed in to provide fans with some much anticipated racing action after two months. The racers were ready also, as they were throwing slide jobs from the first heat race to four wide racing through the features. As the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod car count has increased, so has the excitement. Three of the top four cars started ninth or further back in the field. Trevor Dunn took the lead and looked like he would pick up his first win but with a handful of laps left he slipped high and over the bank. At that point, Bryan Morris inherited the lead as he had been right on Dunn’s tail the entire race. Only a couple laps after that, Randy Smith Jr. had worked his way up from his ninth place starting spot and drove inside Morris to the lead and checkered flag for the first time in a couple years. Willamette IMCA Stock Car special sports $5,000 top prize

LEBANON, Ore. – IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars race for $5,000 to win and a starting spot on the B & B Chassis All-Star Invitational grid Saturday, Aug. 21 at Willamette Speedway. The inaugural special is sponsored by AAMCO and the $80 entry fee includes the driver’s pit pass. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region, KMJ Performance Oregon State and track points will be awarded. Also on the card that evening is a $1,500 to win, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying event for IMCA Modifieds. Mullins flies to first Virginia Sprint Series checkers

By Jim Haines NATURAL BRIDGE, Va. (Aug. 7) – Matt Mullins joined the Virginia Sprint Series four years ago after having raced other divisions. But being from Iowa, he always wanted to race a Sprint Car and Saturday night fulfilled a life-long dream of not just racing Sprinters but winning in one. Mullins and Chris Ware paced the IMCA RaceSaver field to green with Mullins out first, Ware right behind and Mike Leraas and Daren Bolac racing for third. Mullins was really rolling out in clean air while Ware tryied to stay in touch. Bolac made it to third with Leraas fourth. Mullins was still out front flying as Bolac and Leraas advanced. Brandon McLain made his way to fourth as Bolac was closing in on Mullins, but laps ran out as the leader flashed under the waving checkered flag for his first feature win. NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series returns to Penn Can for Sunday show

SUSQUEHANNA, Pa. – Round five of the NY-Penn Series takes touring IMCA Modifieds back to Penn Can Speedway this Sunday for a $1,000 to win, minimum $100 to start main event. Brad Sites brings both a two-race winning streak and the series points lead to Susquehanna for the Aug. 15 event, which makes the winner eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational during the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Towns tops Sunday field at Willamette for first Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout win

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (Aug. 8) – The third night at Willamette Speedway was the Sunday night charm for Curtis Towns. Towns topped the third event in as many nights to start the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout, earning $1,000 and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility. He’d taken advantage of his inside front row starting position in the 40-lap feature, hoping to bounce back after failing to make the feature on Friday night. Towns set a rapid pace but was eventually caught once he entered traffic. Collen Winebarger put the pass on Towns on lap 14. Dominant the previous evening and looking to make it two victories in a row, the new leader had no real issues whether on an open race track or in traffic.
