Whitehead stampedes to first IMCA Modified victory

ARDMORE, Okla. (March 12) – Justin Whitehead started his rookie season hoping to get a single IMCA Modified feature win. It took the Texarkana, Texas, driver just two starts to accomplish that goal. The runner-up on March 7 at Ardmore when Chris Bragg raced to career win number 101 in the division, Whitehead led the last 22 laps in winning the Southern Stampede main event, and $2,000, Thursday night at Southern Oklahoma Speedway. Southern Oklahoma Speedway starts new season with March 12-14 Stampede

ARDMORE, Okla. – IMCA Modifieds chase big checks and berths on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot each night of the season opening Southern Stampede March 12-14 at Southern Oklahoma Speedway. Modifieds run for $2,000 to win and $200 to start on Thursday, $1,000 to win and $100 to start on Friday and $3,000 to win and $300 to start on Saturday at Ardmore. Increased paydays are in store for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods, with both divisions running for $1,000 to win and $100 to start Thursday, $750 to win and $75 to start Friday and $1,250 to win and $125 to start Saturday. Davis, Egbert, Williams clinch Red River Tour crowns

(May 31) – The finale to the second edition of the Lone Star Super Gas IMCA Red River Modified Tour presented by Smiley’s Racing Products provided a lot of action as the racing events unfolded on the Southern Oklahoma Speedway. Feature winners on the fifth and final night of the tour were Jake O’Neil, IMCA Modifieds; Trevor Egbert, Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods; and Jeffrey Abbey, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Champions were Cory Davis in the Modifieds, Egbert and Gary Williams, Stock Cars. Throughout the Modified pack, three- and four-wide racing was common as the racers fought for position. Up front, Travis Johnson and O’Neil raced around the high side of the speedway and O’Neil attempted to find a way around Johnson. 2019 IMCA Red River Modified Tour set to start this weekend, May 25-31

By Jackson Braun KENNEDALE, Texas – Pre-registration has officially closed for the 2019 edition of the IMCA Red River Modified Tour. If the quality of racing from last year is any indication, everyone is in for a treat during the tour’s second running. Eighty-one IMCA Modifieds have registered, along with 62 Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods and 19 IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Inaugural champion Chris Elliott from Abilene looks to defend his Modified crown as the stacked field of racers will try to figure out how to put together a championship run. IMCA Modifieds will compete for a $1,500 prize every night, with an entry into the feature worth a $100 payday. Winners of these events will all be qualifiers for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Hughes tops two IMCA Modified features, Thornton collects final Stampede checkers

ARDMORE, Okla. (March 7-9) – Jason Hughes was a double winner before Ricky Thornton Jr. made his way to victory lane at Southern Oklahoma Speedway’s Southern Stampede special. New Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational candidate Hughes was the $2,000 IMCA Modified winner on Thursday and the $1,000 winner on Friday. Thornton paced Saturday’s $3,000 to win event. The IMCA car count for the second annual Stampede topped 100 and included 51 Modifieds. Hughes had to reel in Jared Hoefelman for the opening night lead, then won ahead of Thornton and defending IMCA Red River Tour champion Chris Elliott. The Sooner State speedster led every circuit on Friday. Thornton repeated as runner-up while Rodney Sanders rounded out the podium finishers. “I’m happy with the weekend. Sustaire is first in IMCA Red River Modified Tour finale

By Mike Spieker ARDMORE, Oklahoma (June 1) – Kevin Sustaire dominated Friday’s feature to close out the IMCA Red River Modified Tour at Southern Oklahoma Speedway. Already on the Fast Shafts Invitational ballot, he earned $1,500 for the victory while Chris Elliott was the best driver through six rounds and earned the inaugural tour championship. Thirty-one IMCA Modifieds rolled off three-wide to start the tour finale. Sustaire wasted no time moving to the front as he charged from the middle of row two to the lead on the opening lap. A caution on lap two regrouped the field. On the restart, Cory Davis and Matt Guillaume filed into second and third, respectively, as Sustaire showed the way. A few more cautions kept the field bunched up, but the second half of the race had a long green flag run. Sustaire checked out from the field in the closing stages as he became the sixth different winner in as many nights. IMCA Modifieds on Friday card at Southern Oklahoma

ARDMORE, Okla. – IMCA Modifieds make their first of seven Friday night appearances at Southern Oklahoma Speedway on April 20. Pit gates and the grandstand both open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at approximately 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Jet Racing Central Region or Razor Chassis South Central Region, Oklahoma State and track points will be awarded. Other upcoming Friday events for IMCA Modifieds at Southern Oklahoma are May 18, June 1 and 15, July 20, Aug. 17 and Sept. 14. The Sprint Series of Oklahoma is also on tomorrow night’s card at Ardmore. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $10 for ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $30.

Doherty wins Southern Stampede opener, Taylor tops IMCA Modifieds on night two

ARDMORE, Okla. (March 9-10) – ‘B’ qualifier Jeff Taylor brought his ‘A’ game to Southern Oklahoma’s Speedway and nearly had a Southern Stampede sweep to show for his efforts. Taylor ended in second on Friday after Brad Doherty’s high-side heroics netted him the opening night IMCA Modified checkers. Taylor then dueled with Brendon Gemmill before holding off Nick Roberts for the $1,200 victory on Saturday. “I’d been to Ardmore before to help other guys but this was the first time I’d ever raced there. It’s a very racy track,” said Taylor, who started 19th on Friday and from the 13th spot on Saturday. “It was exciting. I had a good car both nights and was able to run wherever I wanted.” Taylor went from third to first with five laps left in the Saturday show. Kelly, Wood stampede to checkers in Sprint Series of Oklahoma at Ardmore

(March 9 and 10) – Chris Kelly and Joe Wood Jr. followed different lines to the same destination when the Sprint Series of Oklahoma opened as part of Southern Oklahoma Speedway’s Southern Stampede special. Kelly found the bottom before all others as he took the lead near midway point and never looked back to claim the Friday feature and $700 in the IMCA RaceSaver series presented by Smiley’s Racing Products/Hoosier Racing Tires Southwest lidlifter. Wood took the lead early and cruised along the top side to Saturday’s $750 checkers. Running fourth on lap 10, Kelly quickly disposed of Blake Daccus for third and moved into the runner-up position by passing Gary Owens on lap 12.
