Family time on the track: Jorgensen, grandsons square off in IMCA Late Model main at Harlan

HARLAN, Iowa – When the checkers flew at the conclusion of the June 20 IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature at Shelby County Speedway, the happiest driver in the race was probably the guy who finished ninth. Veteran Dave Jorgensen of Elkhorn, Neb., turned laps with grandsons Robbie and A.J. for just the second time this season that evening – a third racing grandson, Jakes, was on a fishing trip that Father’s Day weekend – and there were smiles all around before and after the show. “Racing binds us together. Saturday start for IMCA Midwest Madness Tour

HARLAN, Iowa – IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars race for a minimum of $1,000 to win each night of the Arnold Motor Supply Midwest Madness Tour. The tour starts Saturday, June 27 at Shelby County Speedway in Harlan, then travels to The New Raceway Park Speedway at Jefferson, S.D., on Sunday, June 28; Clay County Fair Speedway at Spencer on Monday, June 29; Fairmont, Minn., Raceway on Tuesday, June 30; Kossuth County Speedway in Algona on Wednesday, July 1; Stuart Speedway on Thursday, July 2; and Crawford County Speedway in Denison on Friday, July 3. All shows are draw/redraw and each Modified feature is a qualifying event for the 2020 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Arnold Motor Supply gift cards in the amounts of $1,000, $500 and $250 will go to the top three drivers in final tour points. Awards will be distributed following the final night’s program. IMCA Late Models return to Shelby County Speedway

HARLAN, Iowa – IMCA Sunoco Late Models return to Shelby County Speedway in 2020, headlining the season-opening Cabin Fever Breakout special April 17 and 18. Track points will be awarded on 13 race dates scheduled for the division during the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season, beginning May 2 and including the May 30 James Buwalda Memorial show.  “We wanted some direction with our Late Model class. This division will be a good fit for us,” said promoter Doug Batz, optimistic that drivers from Nebraska tracks that began sanctioning last season will join Saturday fields at Shelby County.  IMCA Late Models last ran at Harlan in 2016. The division joins sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts on regular race programs on the 4/10-mile dirt oval. Season championship night is set for Aug. 22. The 28th annual Tiny Lund Memorial is Sept. 25-26.
