Night number three at Kossuth County draws 93 IMCA entries

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (May 23) – A season-high 93 IMCA entries visited the oval on night number three of rac­ing this season at Kossuth County Speedway. Jake O’Neil came from back in the pack to win the IMCA Modified feature after early runs at the front by Aaron Benson and then Kelly Shryock. O’Neil took the lead with five laps to go and never looked back. Jeremy Mills was the runner-up with Shryock taking third.  Jeramie Faber was the early leader in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature before Alec Fett grabbed the lead after a caution on the third lap. Shryock, Mills top Modified features at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski  ALGONA, Iowa (May 16) – Night number two of the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season at Kossuth County Speedway saw Kelly Shryock and Jeremy Mills win IMCA Modified features. Shryock came from the outside of the second row to earn the victory in the scheduled feature as pole sit­ter Austin Wolf was the runner-up. Winner-of the event rained out and made up from the previous week, Mills rounded out the top five in the scheduled race. Two features were on tap for the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods as well, with Doug Smith winning the scheduled race and Matt Looft the make-up. Also ending their nights in victory lane were Chad Palmer, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars; Bryce Sommerfeld, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks; and Oliver Monson, Mach-1 Sport Compacts.

Zevenbergen makes like lightning at Thunderdome special 

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 9) – Elijah Zevenbergen was fast as lightning in winning the Thunderdome feature for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Kossuth County Speedway. Zevenbergen and Derek Green both drew front row spots and chose to start at the back of the field for the $1,000 challenge if either could win the feature. Kevin Opheim jumped out to the early lead with a caution coming out on lap five. David Smith wrestled the lead away off the restart as Green moved into the top four spots only to see a pair of flat tires end his night. Zevenbergen, who was involved in a spinout on lap five and went to the back of the field again, slowly weaved his way through traffic to move into a battle for the lead with Smith and Opheim. Beckendorf outruns IMCA Modified foes at Kossuth County’s Gary Harken Memorial 

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 4) – The rest of the IMCA Modified field couldn’t catch Brandon Beckendorf, who raced to one of four $1,000 paydays at Kossuth County Speedway’s Gary Harken Memorial. Jesse Hoeft was the early leader before Beckendorf took over the top spot on the third lap. The Danube, Minn., driver did not give up that spot once out in clean air as just a single yellow, just before midway of the 20-lap feature slowed his trip into victory lane ahead of fast closing Tad Reutzel. The win put Beckendorf of the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Hard charger Jeremy went from 13th starting to third. Ruter races back to Kossuth County victory lane

ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 2) – Just a week after winning the Veterans’ Night event at Kossuth County Speedway, Ryan Ruter was standing in victory lane at Algona with another big check and a very tall trophy. Ruter led all 20 laps of Thursday’s Hovinga Memorial main event for IMCA Modifieds, outrunning Jeremy Mills and Tad Reutzel for the $1,000 payday. The feature was slowed by just a single caution and Ruter pulled ahead following the yellow just after midway. Clayton Christensen and Ethan Dotson rounded out the top five in the fair night show. Ruter was already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot for 2019. Tenth starting Chad Palmer was the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner, ahead of Kevin Opheim and David Wickman. Kossuth County hosts Hovinga Memorial

ALGONA, Iowa – IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win at Kossuth County Speedway’s Thursday, Aug. 2 Hovinga Memorial. The Dash at the Clash qualifier is also a qualifying event for the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Completing the card are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, Iowa State and track points will be awarded. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and racing follows 7 p.m. hot laps. Ruter, Zevenbergen race to 2K wins on Kossuth County’s Veterans’ Night

ALGONA, Iowa (July 26) – The crowd at Kossuth County Speedway thanked the men and women who have served in our military, then applauded $2,000 feature winners Ryan Ruter and Elijah Zevenbergen during the Thursday Veterans’ Night event. Ruter was running third and in the right place to capitalize when Kyle Strickler and Jeremy Mills tangled up front in the IMCA Modified main. He led to the finish, running the top line and taking the checkers ahead of Wehrs Dash at the Clash winner Kelly Shryock, Ethan Dotson, Rob Hughes and Nick Meyer. Ruter had taken the initial green flag from the fifth spot, Shryock from ninth. “There were a lot of good cars there. Kossuth County to Salute Home Town Heroes on Veterans Night 

ALGONA, Iowa – Kossuth County Speedway’s salute to veterans on Home Town Heroes Night July 26 boasts $2,000 to win features for IMCA Modifieds, presented by Becks Hybrids, and for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, presented by Altenburg Construction/Slat Replacement Professionals. Both divisions have a $50 entry fee and are draw/redraw. Thursday’s Modified feature is a 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier and Harris Dash at the Clash qualifier. All weekly classes run and all points, including track, will be awarded. Veterans can show their ID to receive free grandstand admission or $10 off a pit pass. Pit gates open at 5:30 p.m. and racing follows 7 p.m. hot laps. Cars with patriotic wraps will be on display earlier in the day. More than $6,000 in prizes, including two limited edition Henry Golden Bay rifles, will be given in a drivers-only raffle.

Sweet victory for Berghahn at Bumblebee Nationals

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 12) – Denny Berghahn Jr. made a long trip from Nebraska $1,000 better as he topped a 19-car field to win the second annual Bumblebee Nationals at Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday, night. National point leader Bubba Brown and Stephanie Coopman led the field to green for the 25-lap feature with Berghahn, who started on the outside of the second row, taking the lead immediately. From that point, all that slowed Berghahn in the drive for the best payday of his career were a quintet of cautins. Hard charger Jerry Coopman advanced nine spots to end in second with Jake Benischek, Stephanie Coopman and Jarad Gross rounding out the to five. Tad Reutzel and Bryce Sommerfield picked up their third local feature wins of the season in the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock divisions, respectively, with Derek Green taking the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature for the second straight week and Doug Cook topping the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for the first time.

Monson wins fifth feature Kossuth County 

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 5) – Oliver Monson won his fifth Mach-1 Sport Compact feature of the season at Kossuth County Speedway to highlight a big night of dirt track racing on Thursday in front of a nice crowd that concluded with the city’s fireworks show. Monson grabbed the lead immediately and led the whole way in a race that went green, white, checkered. Seth Eischeid had his best run of the summer to capture second as Alex Dostal was third. Mike Van Genderen reeled Ryan Ruter in the late stages to win the IMCA Modified feature and Derek Green became the sixth different winner in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Matt Looft motored to local win number three in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. Brandon Nielsen was the fourth and final different driver to lead the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main.
