Nelson hustles to $1,000 Hobby Stock win

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 14) – Along with talent, winning a special in dirt track racing frequently in­volves two other factors, a little luck and a good draw. Dylan Nelson used all those things to top a big field of IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks in a $1,000 to win main event Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway. Nelson started on the outside of the front row and led all 20 laps. The caution flew on four occa­sions to regroup the field, but each time Nelson pulled away from the pack. Cody Nielsen ended up in second place with Chanse Hollatz placing third. Leah Wroten took fourth and Greg Sidles was fifth. Kyle Sidles went from 22nd starting to eighth as the hard charger. Reutzel, Monson win again at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 7) – Tad Reutzel and Oliver Monson both made return trips to victory lane at Kossuth County Speedway Thursday night, Reutzel outran Kelly Shryock and Mat Hollerich for his second IMCA Modified win this season at Algona. Monson’s third local Mach-1 Sport Compact checkers of 2018 came ahead of Jacob Tacheny and Taylor Kuper. Collecting their first wins of the year at Kossuth County were Kevin Opheim in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Josh Meyer in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Doug Wickman in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.

Ruter cruises at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (May 31) – The IMCA Modified feature went green, white, checkered as Ryan Ruter drew the pole position and cruised to the Thursday win in front of the season’s biggest crowd at Kossuth County Speedway in Algona. Ethan Dotson ended up in second place and Ben Kraus was third, followed by Austin Wolf and Mat Hollerich. Chad Palmer paced the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars after taking the lead following a lap six restart. Bryce Sommerfeld held onto the front spot after a couple cautions in winning the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main while the only thing slowing George Nordman’s drive to the Karl Chevrolet North­ern SportMod checkers was a lap nine yellow. Oliver Monson was never challenged in racing to his second Mach-1 Sport Compact victory this season at Algona.

Reutzel rules at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (May 24) – Tad Reutzel, sporting a new design on his 5R rig, survived four yellow flags to lead the whole way and win Thursday’s IMCA Modified main event at Kossuth County Speedway. Reutzel held off challenges late from Austin Wolf and Jay Noteboom to earn his first local feature win of the season. Randy Brands dominated the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature, starting on the pole before running away and hiding from the rest of the field in a race that went green white checkered. Kyle Sidles jump out fast in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature and led most of the race before Daniel Smith came on late to take the lead with one lap remaining and went onto his first victory of the year at Algona. The Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature lead changed hands three times before Matt Looft took over for good following a lap eight restart. Noteboom repeats as Modified winner at Algona 

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (May 17) – Jay Noteboom repeated as the IMCA Modified winner Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway. Noteboom started on the inside of row number four before moving to the front of the field to pick up his second win of the season at Algona and his fourth overall this spring. Kelly Shryock took second followed by Ethan Dotson, Austin Wolf and Cody Knecht. Dotson moved up seven positions during the final race of the evening as the hard charger. John Wiemann started on the outside pole and led almost the whole way only to see Heath Tulp edge him by a bumper at the flag stand to take the victory in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature.
