Looft wins Kossuth County Wyffels SportMod Special

ALGONA, Iowa (June 30, 2022) – Matt Looft took the lead with four laps to go to earn the $1,000 first place check in the Wyffels Hybrid Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod Special at Kossuth County Speedway Thursday night. 

Jake Simpson and Gerald Curry bought the 20-car feature field to the stand for the green flag in the final event of the evening. 

After a complete restart, Simpson grabbed the early lead. He led the first eight laps before encountering lapped traffic on lap nine as Austin Schrage and Looft closed in. 

All three got past a pair of lapped cars before the yellow flag came out on lap 12. Looft moved up a groove after the restart and slowly reeled in Simpson for the lead.

On lap 17 of the 20-lap feature, Looft took over the top spot and went on to win his fourth local feature of the season. Simpson held on to the runner-up spot as Schrage took third.

Nick Meyer was the winner in a caution-free Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature and Donavon Smith led the distance in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main. Mike Smith paced the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks while Jade Lange scored Algona win number three of the season in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts.

Kossuth County hosts Hovinga Memorial

ALGONA, Iowa – IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win at Kossuth County Speedway’s Thursday, Aug. 2 Hovinga Memorial. The Dash at the Clash qualifier is also a qualifying event for the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Completing the card are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, Iowa State and track points will be awarded. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and racing follows 7 p.m. hot laps. Kossuth County Salute to Veterans is Thursday

ALGONA, Iowa – Kossuth County Speedway’s Thursday night Salute to Veterans sees IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars both racing for top checks of $2,000.  The Modified feature is a qualifying event for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both race for $1,000 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts complete the sanctioned card at Algona on July 23.  Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.  Spectator admission is $10 for adults and free for veterans and their spouses and kids ages 14 and under.  IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, KMJ Performance State and track points will be awarded. Nielsen wins Weishaar Memorial race

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 20, 2023) – Brandon Nielsen was the big winner of the $1,000 Jess Weishaar IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Memorial race held Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway. Aaron Rudolph and Josh Sidles brought the 22-car field to flag stand to take the green flag in the final race of the night as they raced for the $1,000 first place check in honor resident and race fan Jess Weishaar, slain in a 2019 bank robbery. Rudolph edged ahead after the first trip around the Algona oval as Josh Sidles and Rudolph went door-to-door the first five laps for the lead in the feature. The caution flag appeared on six and Mike Smith grabbed the lead off the restart, but that only lasted three laps as Nielsen became the new leader at the halfway point of the 20-lap feature race.
